Julian finished the last of his food slowly.
The restaurant had grown quieter since they arrived. Most of the tables around them were empty now, and the soft music playing overhead barely reached their corner of the room.
Lucian hadn't touched the glass of water in front of him.
Julian noticed.
"You always order something you don't drink?"
Lucian glanced at the glass.
"It helps people relax."
Julian leaned back slightly in his chair.
"And does it work?"
Lucian looked at him.
"Usually."
Julian let out a small breath.
"Good to know I'm the exception."
Lucian didn't respond to that immediately. Instead he watched Julian the same way he had been doing since they sat down.
Not suspicious.
Just attentive.
