Chapter 12 - Chapter 12: Paranoia

Amara's POV :

I woke up hurting everywhere.

My shoulder was throbbing where they'd twisted my arm, hands scraped raw from the concrete, bruise on my cheek pulsing with every heartbeat. I laid there staring at the ceiling replaying last night over and over, the garage, the chase, how close I'd come to dying.

Roman kicked me out of the Meridian around nine and 30 minutes later someone was following me in a black sedan trying to grab me in a parking garage after he'd told me to stop asking questions or deal with what came next.

I sat up slow and grabbed my phone off the nightstand, nothing from Sarah, just Ethan's text from last night about the names he'd found.

The apartment was too quiet and empty and I had this sick feeling settling in that Roman Vale had sent people to kill me.

My phone buzzed in my hand and I jumped.

Ethan.

"Hey."

"You sound awful."

"Long night. What's up?"

"Those names you asked about, Porter and Lowe?"
