Chapter 2 - Chapter two: The principal of magic

Guy Thug: This guy's words are giving me chills… I'm gonna kill him, I'll shoot!

(He speaks to himself and pulls the trigger.)

Guy Thug: What! What the hell is going on?! I just reloaded this!

(Sidachi begins walking toward the thug. The thug tries pulling the trigger, but nothing happens. Morissa sees Sidachi heading toward the thug slowly.)

Guy Thug: Hey kid, stop moving! I said don't move!

(Sidachi continues walking slowly toward the thug and finally approaches him closely.)

MC Sidachi: I dared you to shoot me… so shoot me.

(Sidachi grabs the gun from the thug and throws it away. The thug begins to panic in fear.)

MC Sidachi: I'm not gonna kill you because I've never murdered anyone before.

(Sidachi looks eye to eye with the thug in a composed way, radiating his aura.)

MC Sidachi: Leave now. You've been given a chance to change the way you live. If you thought I was going to be afraid of you, you thought wrong. We share the same flesh; I cannot fear someone who's my kind.

(Sidachi grabs the thug's shirt, pulls him closely, and whispers in his ear.)

MC Sidachi: Never think you're better than anyone. The day you do could be your last.

(Sidachi lets go of the thug's shirt. The thug slowly moves backward.)

Guy Thug: You're some kind of psychopath!

MC Sidachi: You can call me whatever you want. Just don't harm anyone you feel like.

(The thug runs away.)

(Sidachi looks the other way.)

MC Sidachi: You can come out now. It's safe.

(Morissa comes out of hiding and heads toward Sidachi.)

Close Friend Morissa: I'm so sorry for putting you in all this trouble… please forgive me. I never meant…

(Sidachi extends his hand to her for a handshake.)

Close Friend Morissa: Huh?

(She sees his hand and greets it with her own.)

MC Sidachi: There's nothing to be sorry for.

(Morissa was surprised by the way Sidachi was looking at her.)

MC Sidachi: My name is Sidachi Nasharimei.

Close Friend Morissa: Morissa… Morissa Assimori, that's my name.

MC Sidachi: Cool. Maybe we should hang out sometime.

Close Friend Morissa: Huh…

Vmm!!! Vmm!!!

(Sidachi's phone vibrates. He checks a text from his mother.)

MC Sidachi: Oh, it's my mom. I have to head home.

Close Friend Morissa: Oh…

MC Sidachi: Hey, I kinda saved your life, so you owe me, right?

Close Friend Morissa: Oh yeah, I definitely do owe you a favor.

MC Sidachi: Great. So, can you do me a favor?

Close Friend Morissa: As in right now?

MC Sidachi: Yes.

Close Friend Morissa: Okay.

MC Sidachi: Next time, try to be more careful.

(Sidachi begins walking home, but Morissa shouts after him.)

Close Friend Morissa: Wait!

(Sidachi stops walking.)

Close Friend Morissa: Would you mind giving me an escort to my home? It's okay if you don't want to… I was just asking.

(Sidachi talks to himself.)

MC Sidachi: It's late, I have to head home, but she's just asking. She needs my help.

(Sidachi turns to her.)

MC Sidachi: Where do you live?

(After some time, Sidachi walks Morissa to her home.)

MC Sidachi: So, where do you come from?

Close Friend Morissa: I come from Tokyo. My family wanted us to move here so we can start new lives.

MC Sidachi: I see.

Close Friend Morissa: What about you? Where do you come from?

MC Sidachi: Tosharida, this same place. It's where I grew up; it's been my hometown ever since.

(Morissa stops walking because she sees her home, then Sidachi also stops.)

MC Sidachi: Is this it?

Close Friend Morissa: Yeah, I'm home. Thank you so much for everything.

MC Sidachi: You're welcome, but you can keep the thank you. I'm just kind.

(Sidachi begins to walk home. Morissa thinks of Sidachi's words.)

Close Friend Morissa (thoughts, short flashback): Maybe we should hang out sometime…

(In reality.)

Close Friend Morissa: Hey!

(Sidachi turns and looks at Morissa.)

Close Friend Morissa: Since you said we should hang out sometime, I was thinking… maybe you should get my number?

MC Sidachi: I'll call you, or I'll just text you.

Close Friend Morissa: How? You don't have my number…

MC Sidachi: I'm magic. I'll find it.

(Sidachi continues heading home. Morissa feels fluttered.)

Close Friend Morissa: Good night!

(Sidachi hears her good night but continues walking home.)

Maybe he didn't hear me. Anyway, he helped me enough.

(After some time, view of the full moon. Sidachi opens the door to his house and is surprised that the lights are off.)

MC Sidachi: That's odd… the lights are off.

Flick!

(Sidachi flicks the switch and the lights in the living room come on.)

MC Sidachi: Is anyone home?

(Sidachi throws his bag into the living room. After some time, he sits on the rooftop outside his bedroom and looks at the stars.)

(Grandpa Zayn comes to sit beside Sidachi. It's a silent moment with a calm wind blowing.)

Grandpa Zayn: Do you think magic is talent?

MC Sidachi: I thought I was alone…

Grandpa Zayn: "I was resting. Your mother and your sister went to get dinner. When I saw your bag in the living room, I knew this was the only place you'd be."

MC Sidachi: Magic is a gift, just like the way God can bless someone with a voice to sing.

Grandpa Zayn: So you do believe in magic?

MC Sidachi: "Maybe… to be honest, I don't know. You're the third person to ask me—first Ashi, then my teacher, and now you."

Grandpa Zayn: I already know everything… even Rico.

MC Sidachi: You know?

Grandpa Zayn: Yes. I just decided to keep quiet and keep things to myself.

MC Sidachi: Rico and I have been friends since nursery. When we both discovered that we could do magic, we decided to keep it to ourselves. Even now, we're still afraid of the consequences.

Grandpa Zayn: Can you be willing to go through pain to make others happy?

MC Sidachi: What kind of a question is that?

Grandpa Zayn: My father asked me this question when I was your age. After all these years, I still haven't found the answer. Maybe you can. My father told me a story about magic. He said it was a real story. Would you like to know what it was about?

MC Sidachi: As long as it's magic, I'm interested.

Grandpa Zayn: A long time ago, back in the 1900s, there were three magicians. These three magicians were the only people who practiced real magic. People never believed them at first—they thought they were just a bunch of wizards or witches. But as time went on, their magic began to gain fame. These magicians did not use their magic to hurt people; instead, their magic revealed truth to the people. After this, they came up with the name, calling themselves the Three Flower Men. It was glorious. People loved their magic. People loved what they did. Then there was an organization called the Forbidden Sped.

MC Sidachi: I've heard of that organization. I hear they forbid people from practicing magic.

Grandpa Zayn: Yes. Any magic that was performed was forbidden. If anyone practiced magic, he or she had to answer for it. If a proper reason wasn't given for why you did magic, you'd be executed.

MC Sidachi: You mean… killed?

Grandpa Zayn: Yes.

MC Sidachi: What about the Three Flower Men?

Grandpa Zayn: Oh, them… they began to do their magic in secret. But people still loved what they did because their magic was real, and it helped people. My father told me they vanished. To this day, no one knows what happened to the Three Flower Men. But the Forbidden Sped is still in power. In case anyone tries to practice magic, they will stop it. In simple terms, magic doesn't exist. There are no magicians… I don't believe that. It's like you said magic is a gift, just like the way God can bless someone with a voice to sing. It's the same with magic. To do magic, you need three things, trust, faith, and knowledge. Once a magician has these three things, he or she can practice magic. But the question is, who can practice real magic?

Grandpa Zayn: No matter how big or small someone is, talent is just talent. It shows who you really are. You just have to embrace it. Once determined, nothing can go wrong. I'm telling you these things because you're my grandson. I'm in the afternoon of my life, so I have little time left to live in this world. Which means the time you have, Sidachi… please spend it more with me because I'm dying very, very soon. You'll never have a grandfather who can do the things I've done for you.

(Grandpa Zayn stands up.)

Grandpa Zayn: I'll tell your mom you're home.

(Grandpa Zayn leaves.)

(After some time, Sidachi throws himself on the bed in his room and wonders.)

MC Sidachi: Grandpa is only 82, and he's already talking about his death. The story he's been telling me doesn't sound made up… I think it's real. All this time, Grandpa knew I could do magic. I think he was afraid of the outcomes too, which is why he decided to keep it to himself.

(Sidachi leaves his bedroom and goes to the kitchen… suddenly he sees his grandfather on the floor.)

MC Sidachi: Grandpa… Grandpa!

(Said with ease, then Sidachi panics. After some time, at the hospital, Sidachi sits waiting for the doctor to come and tell him how his grandfather is doing.)

(View of Sidachi's mom and sister.)

Little Sister Lisha: Mom, there he is!

Mother Samatara: Sidachi!

Little Sister Lisha: Where's Grandpa?

MC Sidachi: He's being treated.

Mother Samatara: What happened?

MC Sidachi: I don't know yet. I'm waiting for the doctor.

(Doctor arrives.)

Mother Samatara: Doctor, is my father going to be okay?

Male Doctor: I assume you must be his daughter?

Mother Samatara: Yes, and I'm the mother of these two kids.

Male Doctor: I see. I'm afraid I only have bad news with me, Mrs…

Mother Samatara: Nasharimei.

Male Doctor: Your father is on the brink of death. I'm not sure if he'll make it or not. Unfortunately, his blood pressure shot too high.

Little Sister Lisha: What do you mean you're not sure? You're a doctor, aren't you?

MC Sidachi: Lisha, attitude.

Male Doctor: It's okay, I understand how she's feeling. What we don't know is what made your grandfather's blood pressure shoot so high. Do you perhaps have any clue? Because we've tried asking him, and he hasn't said a single word. Oh, he requested to see only his grandson, Sidachi.

(Samatara and Lisha look at Sidachi.)

MC Sidachi: Me?

Male Doctor: You're Sidachi, right?

MC Sidachi: Yes.

Male Doctor: He specifically said only to see you.

(Sidachi stands up and follows the doctor.)

Mother Samatara: Come back with good news, Sidachi.

(Sidachi doesn't say a word and just continues walking.)

(They walk… then the doctor shows Sidachi the door.)

Male Doctor: Take all the time you need.

(The doctor walks away. Sidachi opens the door and sees his grandfather on the bed.)

Grandpa Zayn: Sidachi, is that you?

MC Sidachi: Yes, Grandpa, it's me.

Grandpa Zayn: Are your mom and sister here?

MC Sidachi: Yes, they're worried about you.

Grandpa Zayn: Did you think about what I told you today?

MC Sidachi: No… but it's been on my mind.

Grandpa Zayn: Sidachi, you're a strong kid. You're the one who's going to bring down the Forbidden Sped for good.

(Grandpa Zayn closes his eyes and says his last words.)

Grandpa Zayn: Take care of your mother and sister—they're the only two you have left. Don't forget to take care of yourself too.

(Grandpa Zayn dies on the spot.)

Weeeeeee!!!!!!!!! (Sound from the clinical monitor.)

MC Sidachi: Grandpa… Grandpa…

(Black scene. Sidachi calls Rico on the phone. It beeps.)

(Voice note.)

Rico: Hey, this is Rico. Leave a message.

MC Sidachi: Hey Rico… I think you and I have a job to do. Bringing down the Forbidden Sped.

(closing theme)
