Chapter 46 - Golems Giants Galore

We agreed that the giants were the main problem and that they would be down the middle two pathways so we took the far right pathway that was mine originally. We took a brief break while Joey and Maddy collected the beast cores of the golems I had killed previously. The silver golems were larger and had their cores in a slightly different location which caused them to take longer to procure them.

The next section of the pathway led to a similar cavernous area like the initial. The cavern was at least twice the size of the beginning section and lots of stalactites were hanging from the ceiling. I had the idea of what would happen if we dropped the stalactites on the golems heads from above. Only Gina could accomplish this and she flew up to one that was in line with a golem below who was also by itself.

Gina attacked with her claws an attack known as rend which extended her claws out enabling her the ability to slice the stone off the ceiling in one swing. The momentum from the swing changed the trajectory which caused the falling spike to miss the golem but behind the golem so it didn't really understand why it felt the ground shake and the back of its legs get hit with debris.

Gina attempted a second one understanding the trajectory being altered by the direct she attacks and this time landed one perfectly on the head and it instantly killed the golem. All of us simultaneously jumped in the air with the fist up but none of us made a sound other than the noise our feet made landing. Gina was able to take out three more before the fourth that she took out was noticed by another golem that looked up and saw the eagle flying high above.

As if there had been a calm before the storm, now there was a full on icespike storm being sent at the ceiling as all of the golems shot icespikes at the eagle that had intruded their nest. Ghaston hadn't told us the numbers but we could see that there had to be fifty if not more of the golems firing up at Gina. The agility she displayed was incredible as she lost the ability to attack and was now just constantly dodging.

'The show is over, we need to act now!' Ghaston pulled us out of trance as he and Gus were already charging forward. Abby and Adam quickly joined in as Abby was the first to get to a golem and activated her lightning storm to help stun the golems around her as Adam and Ghaston were close behind finishing off those that were stunned. Abby and Lacy continued to slice at legs of the golems slowing each down drastically.

Dante and Adam had figured out a co-melding where Dante's heads protruded out of Adam's body and would unload arcane flame out of each of its maws. Then Adam with his gold ranked arcane infused katana basically felt zero resistance by anything so far that we faced. The power of the arcane flame infused in the katana melted the fur, skin, and ice of the beasts that we faced as if it never existed in the first place once the katana touched it.

Ghaston's power with a spear was something to behold as he maneuvered through the battlefield landing killing blow after killing blow. The efficiency at which he struck and the power behind it left no room for the beasts to survive. Travis and Joey moved forward cleaning up anything that was missed by Adam or Ghaston.

My arcane barrage attacks were doing a number to the golems as I continued to fire my two spells per target and moved on. The fireballs would cause them to keel over leaving themselves exposed for one of the melee fighters to chop off their heads. Ghaston paused in the center watching everyone working in sync to destroy all of the golems in sight. 'I am actually not needed right now you six are becoming quite the team.'

I personally felt it was the fact we knew they couldn't hurt us as none of them were gold as our armor was growing with us. The few times we got hit we realized it didn't really hurt and we could fight through the bruises with ease. The golems appeared to not have a platinum beast leading them as we cleared out the cavern.

The wall similar to the yeti wall had this glow I could only see when Wispy was melded with me. I once again hadn't seen it till Wispy hopped in, saying it was right in front of me. Once he melded the glow showed on the wall and I sent an arcane orb into the wall blasting it to pieces. Behind the wall were once again seven boxes. I grabbed the first and it once again changed into a bottle, the group seeing this followed suit knowing the situation now.

"Cheers!" We all clanked our potion bottles together and together gulped down the potion. This time the chilling feeling was almost as if it went straight to my finger tips and toes. My nose felt a tingling sensation as my eyes felt tears form then they crystallized and fell from my face landing on the ground. The rest had a similar reaction as tears formed and crystallized and a sudden chorus of "tings" were heard in the cavern.

'Your resistance to frost spells is now permanently one hundred percent. Water resistance is now permanently set to twenty five percent.' Wispy informed me of the new potions effects on me. The realization that all frost spells wouldn't work on me was wild. The realization that frost spells would never work on team arcanum also came to mind as we could now dominate anything in the southern regions of the kingdom.

The new realization that we would be only susceptible to the force of their attacks with metal objects as our only worry had a sudden vigor about us. We were almost at a sprint as we rushed back to the main cavern and once again there were fifty giants looking around wondering how the giants all died. The pace we were all moving was like a wave of obsidian death.

The giants seeing us shot their icespikes, threw spears made of ice, even an icewall was formed that Gus bursted straight through as if it was glass. They had little that could bother us as they had no idea we were now immune to their attacks. Travis even got in on the action, smashing his shield into the neck of a fallen giant decapitating it. We all helped out grabbing the beast cores to speed up the process so that we could move onto the boss.

Ghaston told Adam Maddy and myself to go to the left and the four of them would go to the right. He had a feeling that we would end up in the same room in the long run but if we didn't he felt we could handle ourselves and he was confident in himself to handle whatever is thrown their way. I had Wispy put a split personality spell on Abby to watch over them.

Adam gave me a pat on the back as if to say thank you for putting Wispy on Abby. The three of us gave a small goodbye wave to our friends departing with the only adult in the group. The three of us proceeded forward not really worrying as Wispy melded with me to give me night vision so I took the lead.

Maddy kept grabbing my shoulder as she was struggling to see where to go but I didn't mind as I could see everything just fine. The pathway we were taking was going downward and soon we came across the location that Abby had run into a few giants. The cores were collected really quickly by Maddy who now had it down to a science.

We made our way through the winding pathway as if it was made by a snake. The entire time it felt like we were descending and upon reaching a larger cavern we were in fact much lower than where the others came out. They could tell us how many giants were ahead and with the situation at hand Ghaston suddenly melded with Gina to grow wings and fly down to us. Abby was the only one upset to be left behind as Travis and Joey sat down at the edge to watch.

We had a tall order ahead of us as it appeared there were ten platinum giants. Adam and Ghaston were going to be the forward attacking with Maddy and myself hanging back. I had Wispy cancel his split personality on Abby and place it on Ghaston and told him to go with Adam. I stayed with Maddy as we expected none to come to us. I only fired arcane barrage from my hands instead of the bow so it wouldn't give away our position.

Maddy's life mend through her staff was something only I could see through Wispy's vision, or I should say in our team I was the only one who could see it. I wondered if certain enemies could see her spell but for this situation it appeared to be hidden. The amazing thing was how quickly Adam was becoming lethal with his katana and blink combination. Ghaston went back to his flash tactics and we made sure to close our eyes in time when he yelled flash in our minds.

'Damn I forgot to close my eyes!' Travis suddenly whined in our heads. Ghaston's spear split the head of a platinum giant as he responded to Travis' complaint.

'Would it be more helpful if I gave a countdown?' Ghaston retorted to the complaint.

'No it was my fault, don't mind me.' Travis replied sounding as if he wasn't wanting to be in the spotlight so to speak.

Adam's katana sliced the legs off of a platinum giant who was shocked to be much shorter. He reached out at Adam as if he had a chance to do anything as Adam sidestepped and chopped the head off. He had figured out the quickest way to kill the platinum giants which only Ghaston realized how incredible it was what Adam was doing. I was throwing arcane barrage at the giants in the middle who hadn't been attacked by Ghaston or Adam.

They each tried to block or attack the spikes that appeared in front of them and then took hits from behind. The damage was minimal but it made the giants hesitate from helping their friends as they had no idea where the attacks were coming from as I continued to attack the three in the middle and the four closest to the three being attacked were distracted seeing the strange attack they had never seen before.

Ghaston and Adam were on each side of the group trying to fight to the center to meet up. The giants were quite intelligent and started to defend against Ghaston and Adam's attacks. Wispy and its split personality were saving Ghaston and Adam constantly as there were three attacking each at this point. The distracted giants joined in to fight the two humans they could see.
