Chapter 50 - New Tutors

We finished up our lunch and headed to our normal place post lunch where we met our first new tutor. Amber Antom melded with a shadow wolf and was holding a bow on her back. I figured that meant she was here for both Abby and myself but she seemed to be more interested in helping Adam as we were all told to attack the dummies in front of us to show her our spells.

Amber was in her early twenties with long flowing amber colored hair. When her wolf melded to her her hair would be the jet black color that the wolf sported. I thought it was a cool feature but it also told you whether or not her wolf was summoned. She had on leather armor that had a sash of black gems running along the cloth. The gems were dark energy enhancement so the sash was a major boost for her. The quiver attached to the sash had the rim of the opening flowing with dark energy.

I thought it was funny when she got to me and asked me to do all of my attack spells. "All of them?" Adam was the one to ask. Amber looked back at him wondering why he would respond with that type of response as she had no idea what my beast was yet. Everyone on the team chuckled at Adam's question and I held back a smile as best I could.

"How many spells can you cast?" Amber inquired.

"Offensive or all of the spells?" I wanted to make sure I knew which answer she wanted.

"Both!" Amber perked up not expecting to get this type of back and forth.

"Eleven offensive spells, eight defensive spells, eleven support spells and Wispy has two more that are specific to him being silver. Currently seven elements are fire, lightning, water, earth, arcane, light, and dark." As I spoke her eyes became larger and larger as she had never met anyone with so many spells to choose from.

"Wispy would like to do one of his spells on your beast if you wouldn't mind summoning it so that they can learn from each other. The spell is called inception and we both will benefit from this spell being casted. It can only be casted one time per beast we meet." I continued to inform Amber of the beast that I had.

"Meet Angel, the shadow wolf, she is currently silver ranked and we are almost platinum! I just graduated two years ago from Muhlhauser Academy and I am close with Abby's older brother Steve." Amber introduced her wolf and gave us a reason why she was selected to help us. A part of me lost a bit of trust from her because she went to our rival school as I felt she might not be completely for us to succeed.

Wispy did a few circles around the shadow wolf and Angel wasn't expecting to see the large ball of energy moving around it. Then Wispy shot into the forehead of the wolf and suddenly the usual pain hit. Amber yelled out cursing something that I didn't understand but something about a father. I would admit it was one of the more painful connections thus far and a part of me wondered if I would have explained it more, it would have gone smoother, since I know I explained it better from that point on.

"How in the world did I just learn the Shadow Barrier?" Amber was shocked. She raised her hand and a black translucent wall appeared next to her as she summoned her first ever shadow barrier. I explained how Wispy seemed to teach everyone how to make barriers out of their strongest magic if they have multiple or the one that they currently use. To demonstrate that I summoned a purple barrier with Maddy summoning a greenish blue life barrier to show the difference that we all had learned.

Ghaston made his appearance at that moment as he summoned a light barrier from his moment with Wispy. Amber, who knew of Ghaston, was shocked to see him summon a barrier as he was known for his flash spell. The two exchanged looks that I couldn't read what they meant but they clearly knew each other from prior experiences.

"I want to see each of your eleven offensive spells." Amber finally looked at me to continue the introduction. I grabbed my bow and walked over to the practice range and fired a fireball then a lightning bolt, the change alone in my bow caused Amber to stare closely at it then had me stop as I pulled back to fire a chain lightning.

"Stop! What is going on? Where is the string for your bow?" Amber had never seen my bow before and as an expert marksman she thought she had seen all the bows that were available. I handed her the bow for her to try and the clear handle suddenly darkened to a black translucent tone. The dark energy was the only element she had access to so the bow took on the element upon being held.

She grabbed it as I did and her hand being in the location of the string produced the energy in the form of a string. She pulled back and let go as an arrow of dark energy projected forth into the target and hitting it a puff of black smoke appeared as the arrow connected to the target.

"What spell was that you used to attack with?" I inquired as I had never seen the black smoke effect before.

"I only have an attack spell called Slow which usually looks like a cloud at their legs making them slower. Suddenly the target lit up with a bullseye ding. We all looked at the target confused so I shot from my hand an arcane missile to hit the target and the three missiles made the ding noise upon connection.

Amber fired another shot from the bow and it once again hit the center and exploded into smoke and several seconds later the ding noise was heard. "Well apparently the ding gets slowed down as well" Amber pointed out with a smile on her face as she thought it was incredible how effortless the bow was to fire. She handed me the bow and asked if I could fire the rest of my spells from the bow.

I went through the rest of my attack spells which Amber couldn't believe the amount of attacks I had at my disposal. She next moved to Travis who stated the obvious causing everyone to laugh "Why do I have to follow that? I have nothing cool like that!" Amber was caught off guard but chuckled with the rest of us as Travis' expressions were comical.

"I have never seen an arcane shell before so you might not have all the spells that Jordan has, you have the coolest turtle shell I have ever seen." Amber pointed out to him.

"It does reflect all spells!" Travis informed Amber.

"That is exceptional, spell reflection is a rare skill or equipment ability that is highly sought after." The comment cheered up Travis who pulled out his dagger and swung it a couple times at the training dummy to show his attacking abilities. He was a tank after all so it was mostly just stabs and slashes which Amber noted.

Amber approached Abby who had Lacy out to meet Angel. The two wolves did a momentary growl and then sniffed each other first in the face as they eyed each other then slowly started to work their way down the rest of each other's bodies. The arcane stripes on Lacy were confusing Amber as she was closely looking at the pattern unsure of how a lightning wolf had the arcane pattern.

"I should just explain now that all six of us received from the king an ancient font of arcane power. It was left in our room and the four of us boys were blessed with its power the first night and then a few days later the girls were visiting the room and upon touching it were blessed as well with arcane power. All of our beasts became silver ranked from this font as we had already been at the bronze rank." I informed our new tutor who didn't seem to have any foreknowledge of our abilities.

"Wisps can only be iron so that is a lie!" Amber protested.

Ghaston responded to her statement "Look at Glow and look at Wispy. Glow is a light wisp and it is iron rank, Wispy claims to be silver, well Wispy is significantly larger than Glow."

Amber's eyes narrowed at the two wisps and the two came together to show how much of a difference there truly was between them. To me it was obvious and they didn't have to get close but apparently until they were close enough or Amber had finally made up her mind she responded. "Ok, sorry I have never met an elemental wisp so I can say that the known single element wisps can only be iron."

Abby, who was supposed to be the one being interrogated, pulled out her saber and dagger and performed her sword technique she had learned from Ghaston. Amber's gaze was instantly taken to her as she had never seen a wolf attack the weak spots of the current attack covering all the angles. The speed at which Abby was moving was incredible as well as it appeared that she was even faster than before.

Amber also noticed that all three of us had daggers that were unique to us. I hadn't used mine as I used the bow but she saw that it was distinctively different than Abby's and Travis'. Then Abby summoned her lightning storm to show her ranged attack that she had learned. She shot out a few lightning bolts from her dagger which none of us knew she could do and I honestly think she surprised herself.

The training dummy appeared to be fried as the lightning bolt attacks stun would spark out of the dummy. The look on Amber's face was quite comical as I don't think she was expecting what she just witnessed. The sword technique alone was impressive, the added ranged attacks as well as the wolf's power and speed were beyond impressive for an eleven year old to have.

"What did they call me for? These guys are monsters!" Amber barely spoke over a whisper but was in a daze as she couldn't get over what she just witnessed from Abby. She looked to Joey who approached with his two sais in hand, one coated in arcane energy and the other coated in fire energy. Joey threw the two sais with deadly accuracy and incredible speed at the training dummy. What Amber wasn't expecting was the sais to travel right back to him as he ran around the dummy in a circle sending out flames of fire and arcane missiles at the target while the sais traveled back and forth between him.

None of us had seen him unload on a target like that and I don't remember ever seeing him fire an arcane missile but he claims he learned it from the arcane font in our room. He sent right next to the target a fire hydra that emerged and looking at the training dummy unloaded a constant flame for ten straight seconds before finally disappearing. We were all impressed and now were really excited to get to the sixes tournament at the end of the year.
