Chapter 36 - Young Master

Many a tropes exist in fiction.

The gag character or comic relief, the secretly overpowered, the evil guy that has his eyes closed and among these tropes exists the young master.

Of course just because we are talking about a trope doesn't mean that the characters following these tropes will be all the same.

There exists variety among all characters.

The young master could for example could just be how a character is called by the people around them without it having much impact on who they are as a character.

Still the one that most people think of when hearing the name is something else entirely.

A good for nothing, that flaunts their family's money and exists solely to be humbled by the main character.

Ash knew this character well as during his days at the orphanage a surprising amount of trash tier fantasy novels ended up at their library.

Naturally as someone who liked uselessly lazing around more than anything he spared no effort in reading these works.

I mean reading something easily digestable before sleep is just something Ash would like.

As an avid reader of these books, Ash naturally became acquainted with many of these tropes.

And now Ash found himself in a situation where he could see the image of one such trope overlapping with his own.

The young master.

Of course Ash felt like the divine retribution such character would encounter could be circumvented.

It's not like he was that arrogant, he also felt like he was stronger than the trope usually deemed necessary, but then again differences were always present be it minor or major.

'This won't do.'

Ash thought while sitting in his well decorated shiny new room.

Luckily for him the room while still shiny was now much different from the one Caesar resided in.

'It won't do... right?'

Ash could feel his confidence slowly disappearing.

Having lived in a somewhat frugal environment till now he couldn't deny the fact that there was a part of him that enjoyed this... no not just a part of him, it was his entirety.

'No, no, no, I can't let myself drown in the power of wealth...'

Then a single snap resounded across the room.

*Snap*

In the very next second two men in suits walked in.

"You called young master."

Ash looked at the two before a grin appeared on his face.

"An outing, we'll be having an outing."

Ash said with his fingers pointing at the ceiling like when someone declares something.

Hearing this the two men looked at each other before nodding, signalling their understanding.

'One time couldn't hurt.'

...

A young man strode through the streets accompanied by two strong looking men.

Ash's plans for the day were still undecided.

He had nothing to do today, as it was now the weekend and no matches would be held.

Ash turned towards one of the men accompanying him.

"Xavier, anything you'd recommend to pass the time?"

Xavier looked towards the other guard quick to ask him too.

"Hey, Clyde... should we go there?"

"Where?"

"Oh, you know where we were there just last week."

Soon a form of understanding dawned on Clyde's face, one showing understanding with a hint of concern mixed in.

"What place are you two talking about?"

Ash asked, curious about this mysterious place.

"It's... the..."

Clyde was trying his hardest to answer before Xavier spoke up.

"It's the casino."

"The casino?"

Ash's face showed a confused expression upon hearing this.

"Wait, young master, do you not know what a casino is?"

Ash confused expression switched to one of anger quickly shouting.

"Of course I know what it is, just how stupid do you think I am?"

Xavier's face showed deep regret.

"It's just that you two were taling like this was some taboo place, when it's just a place to gamble."

"Umm... young master."

Clyde slowly spoke up.

"Yes?"

"But isn't gambling kind of a taboo?"

Hearing the words Ash froze for a second processing things.

'Wait gambling is addicting, often life ruining, and is often associated with criminal organizations (atleast in fiction)... I guess it is kind of taboo.'

Recovering from his momentary state of information processing Ash came to a decision.

"Gambling it is!"

...

Entering the casino, the slot machines among many other shiny things instantly caught Ash's attention.

'...right, this is my first time in a casino, they didn't have such things in Blackheart.'

Soon the three charged their balance, before beginning their game night... or day as it was still the morning.

The first place Ash went to were the slot machines, after all they were both shiny and iconic.

It was one of the first thing you'd think of when hearing the word casino, right next to scam and money.

Of course Ash didn't have high hopes for these machines, because while they were well know they carried something closer to infamy than fame, as machines where you would absolutely lose all your money.

Still this didn't discourage Ash from giving them a try.

He was quick to start pulling on the levers where they were present, as many of the machines were simply touch screen.

As he went to multiple machines running them all at the same time, they all rolled and the results... naturally he lost everything.

Of course he didn't charge all his money onto these machines, he was a bit smarter than that.

With the leftover he figured it was time to seek out other forms of gambling.

Blackjack and Poker.

Did he know the rules?

Not really, but that was why the staff was there, they would explain, it's not like their scamming ran so deep as to lie to newbies.

So Ash moved to one of the tables and stood before the worker.

"I'd like to play."

"Most certainly."

Ash paused for a moment before confidently speaking up.

"Could I ask about the rules of the game?"

"Sure, in short in Blackjack you goal is to get the sum of your cards as close to 21 as you can, but if you go over 21 you lose instantly."

Ash while unsure of the accuracy of the short summary, had feeling that he heard of this from somewhere before, so he felt confident he understood enough about the game.

Placing down his bet, Ash began the game.

Blackjack was in many ways the game that was closest to a 50/50 in the casino, with most people only losing a bit more than they win.

As such Ash was able to stay at the table for quite a bit before tapping out.

Of course he won a few games, but as he was still a beginner in terms of gambling and coupled with his terrible luck he somehow ended up losing all of his money at the table.

'I thought this was supposed to be the fairest of the games.'

That was when Ash turned around to see his two men playing the roulette.

'I guess there was that too, maybe I should have went for that instead of Blackjack.'

Ash wasn't sure why he stuck around playing Blackjack for so long, maybe it was just that he was having fun or maybe it was that he felt more in control than with the other games, in the end it mattered little as he lost it all anyways.

Walking up to the table he looked at what the bets were, before in the next second the results came out.

"Agh!"

"Agh!"

A somewhat strange pained sound escaped from both mens mouths.

"We lost..."

"Like all of it?"

"Yes... all of it."

Ash shrugged as he looked at the two deflated men.

"Atleast I don't have to be worried about getting addicted."

The two looked at Ash before speaking up.

"Does that mean you lost it all too, young master?"

"It sure does."

The three looked at each other before erupting in laughter.

"Hahaha."

"Ahaha."

"Hohoha."

'Wait, couldn't I have just used Delusion to win?'

As their laughter came to an end Clyde spoke up.

"It seems we'll have to cut our excursion short, as we've run out of funds for the week."

Ash was quick to shake his head before speaking up.

"Well we still have a bit left how about we go somewhere to eat with the remainder seeing as it's lunch time and all."

...

The streets were once again three man fuller, with the group of three heading towards their destination.

Soon the three arrived before the fast food restaurant Ash ate at before.

The sliding doors opened, eyes instantly drawn to the three men entering.

The three quickly ordered before attempting to look for a seat nearby.

To their lack of luck the restaurant was full with seemingly no empty seats in sight.

That was when Ash spotted something from the edge of his vision.

It was a large table just about enough for the three of them, but there was one problem.

It was occupied, like all the others, but only by a single individual.

The person occupying it seemed no older than Ash, his brown hair showed a hint of gold at its roots with his eyes carrying a similiar color palette.

The young man sitting there could even be said to be younger than Ash, but such things didn't matter much to Ash, whether it was a pitiful child or an old man, today he felt like he could play a villain, he was the young master afterall.

Walking up to the seat, the boy's eyes were briefly drawn up to three men surrounding his seat.

"We'll be taking this seat, you don't need it anyways."

Ash spoke with crude words, intentionally harsh as he was immersed in his role.

"...Nom..gulp..."

He was completely ignored.

'I guess I'll have to push harder.'

"Listen, we don't have to make it difficult, you can just give us your seat and then find a new one, finding one for a singular person is easier anyways."

Ash's words came out kinder than he wanted, but it didn't really matter as the next words quickly came from the sitting person.

"...How annoying..."
