Chapter 1 - Chapter One

Noelle happily made her rounds among her patients. It was already 12:00 a.m., and her duty wouldn't end until 6:00 a.m. She is a doctor at Campwood Medical Hospital in Ruby Jade City. She is a general practitioner, but she also specializes in cardiology.

"Hi, Doc. Done with your rounds?" asked her secretary, Mel, when Noelle returned to her office.

"Yup! I'll just review the other patients' cases. By the way, is there any update on our medical mission for the Igo tribe?" she asked cheerfully.

"Oh yes! Around five doctors will be joining, including you, Doc, and at least eight volunteer nurses and assistants. We'll also have security with us going to Sierra Mountain."

"Is your hiking OOTD ready?" Noelle laughed as she teased her secretary.

The excitement was obvious on her secretary's face about their upcoming medical mission. Noelle herself was excited too. This would be her first medical mission after two years. It had been a long time since she last visited tribes untouched by civilization. She is deeply passionate about this cause because she believes that everyone—whether in the city or in the mountains—deserves proper healthcare to live a longer life.

"I've been ready since the other day, Doc. We can leave anytime," Mel said, laughing.

"Good. Aside from the exercise, your heart will surely soften when you meet the indigenous people. Almost all the tribes we've visited are very accommodating and generous in sharing their culture. You'll learn a lot while providing them with our services."

They talked a little more before Noelle went back to studying her patients' cases.

She is 32 years old and currently single. She had relationships before, but none of them lasted. According to her ex-boyfriends, she was too much of a workaholic and had no time for them.

Too bad for them! Her career mattered more to her than her love life. Her last boyfriend was when she was 28 years old. After that, she remained single. If she grows old unmarried, that's fine with her—she has her work. She doesn't feel lonely at all.

If a man comes into her life? Then why not—but he must understand that her profession is important and her top priority.

At 6:00 a.m., she and her secretary both went home. She lives at One MountView Condominium, which is close to Campwood Hospital. Her parents live in the countryside of Ruby Jade City, and she has one younger sibling. She helps her parents with their budget, but since they are financially stable, they don't require her to contribute much to household expenses.

When she arrived at her unit, she immediately took a shower and ate. Since their medical mission was only three days away, she organized the things she would bring, including the food she needed. They would be spending three days with the Igo tribe.

After packing her belongings, she lay down and fell asleep. As she drifted off, excitement wrapped around her at the thought of their upcoming mission.
