Chapter 4 - The Date

Chapter Four:

Kyle's POV

I wake up irritated.

I don't know why, maybe I do the blind date of course.

I get dressed without bothering to rush, white shirt ,dark trousers, neat and clean.Kingly enough to silence whoever needs silencing.

When I step out, Dave is already waiting.

"You're late," he says, falling into step beside me.

"I'm not," I reply flatly.

He clears his throat and begins, "10:00am, date with Mikaela. After that, paperwork. Border inspection by noon."

I take the file from his hand, glance at it for less than a second, then hand it back.

"Pointless."

"You agreed to this," he reminds me.

"I agreed to show up."

We head toward the garden where a small table has been arranged under the trees, two seats one already occupied.

Mikaela.

Elder Kane's niece, if I remember correctly. I guess he's run out of daughters to throw at me. Now he's offering his nieces.

She stands when she sees me, smiling too sweetly.

"Alpha Kyle," she says softly. "It's an honor."

I sit without responding.

She's dressed seductively, fitted outfit, curves overly emphasized and her cleavage on display like it's some grand offering.

Unnecessary.

If it were any other day, I might have taken her to my bed after this performance.

But today?

Nothing.

No spark. No interest. No pull.

She talks. And talks.

She lowers her voice when she laughs, tilts her head and plays submissive.

"I believe a Luna should always support her Alpha," she says gently. "Obey him. Respect him."

I take a bite of a pancake.

She smiles wider, thinking she's winning.

But I can see it.

Behind the soft tone and careful movements, there's calculation, ambition and hunger.

She wants the crown.

Not me.

Fifteen long minutes pass.

I stand up abruptly.

Her smile falters. "Is… is something wrong?"

"Yes," I say calmly. "You're not unique."

Her face drains of color.

"I'm sorry?"

"You're trying too hard. I'm not interested."

And just like that, I leave.

As I walk toward the main building, I notice movement in the bushes.

Dave steps out first.

Then Lypon.

Both looking guilty.

"You were spying on me?" I ask.

"We were observing," Dave corrects.

Lypon shrugs. "So? What happened?"

"She wasn't unique," I reply simply.

Dave groans. "Kyle, she's Elder Kane's niece."

"And?"

"You dismissed her in fifteen minutes."

"Seventeen," I corrected.

They both stare at me in disbelief as we enter the office.

By 10:25, I'm seated at my desk, flipping through paperwork just to pass the time before the border inspection.

I don't know why, but something feels… different today.

And I can't quite place it.

Louise's POV

I stand at the edge of the River Moon Pack territory.

The border.

The line I've never crossed alone.

I look back one last time.

Most of the memories here are painful, heavy.

The only ones that ever felt light and joyous were with Johnny.

Maybe I should have gone to him.

He wouldn't have refused me,I know that for sure, but he has a mate now.

And I refuse to become a burden.

I deserve my own path,my own destiny, and I've already decided where it begins.

The Golden Moon Pack.

I take a deep breath.

Then I step across the border, without fear, without looking back again.
