The next day.
As the blazing sun shone down, Kael had already begun—ahem—training Shinx.
At the largest Pokémon Training Ground in Magic City, a blue, lightning-wreathed afterimage darted rapidly through a plum-blossom post formation.
Deep claw marks appeared wherever it passed, scorched black with residual electricity.
It was Shinx.
As the descendant of an Apex Pokémon, after just one night its body had already grown another size, reaching nearly a meter tall—clearly larger than ordinary Shinx.
Kael watched with satisfaction before turning to Corviknight.
"Corviknight, are you ready?"
He hadn't come here just to train Shinx—today was also the day Corviknight would break through to Gym-level.
"Gaga!"
Corviknight answered solemnly. It had been waiting for this day for a long time.
Once it reached Gym-level, it would be able to protect its master even better.
Feeling Corviknight's emotions, Kael smiled warmly. With a flip of his hand, a candy-like item appeared.
"Corviknight, catch."
He tossed the Rare Candy upward. Corviknight opened its beak and swallowed it whole.
"Buzz!"
Instantly, terrifying Flying-type and Steel-type energies surged from Corviknight's body.
Kael quickly retreated, and Shinx moved to his side. Shinx's fur stood on end, faint blue electricity crackling across it.
This was Shinx's instinct—whenever it sensed danger, its fur would glow and it would prepare to signal allies or flee.
Kael paid it no mind, keeping his eyes on Corviknight.
Flying- and Steel-type particles swirled densely around Corviknight's massive body, like countless spirits dancing in orbit. They fused into its steel-hard feathers, making them even tougher and more lustrous.
Its iron talons visibly thickened and lengthened, sharpening to the point where they seemed capable of tearing through steel with a casual swipe.
Its already three-meter-tall body began to grow taller still.
Moments later, Corviknight threw back its head and let out a thunderous cry.
"GAAAA!!!"
Its wings—now nearly eight meters wide—spread open as a terrifying shockwave blasted outward.
Stone tiles cracked and shattered, spiderweb fissures racing across the ground.
Shinx leapt forward without hesitation, standing protectively in front of Kael, fur bristling as it growled low.
"Heh."
Kael smiled faintly and raised his hands. Aura power surged forth, forming a glowing blue barrier around himself and Shinx.
"BOOM! CRACK! CRACK!"
The shockwave slammed into the barrier, forcing Kael and Shinx to slide backward as the ground beneath them fractured.
When the dust settled, Kael looked up.
Corviknight now stood at around 3.5 meters tall, like a small mountain.
Its crimson eyes radiated terrifying pressure—one glance was enough to make ordinary people shudder.
Its aura was heavier, denser, and far more oppressive than before—like a feral, unstoppable beast.
"Ga…"
But the moment Corviknight saw Kael, that ferocity vanished. Its eyes softened, and it let out a slightly coquettish cry.
Master, am I awesome?
Kael laughed.
"You are."
He opened Corviknight's panel.
Pokémon: Corviknight
Gender: Male
Level: 40 (Gym-level)
Type: Flying / Steel
Ability: Pressure
Potential: Champion (???)
Only the level had changed—but Kael felt the difference clearly.
His physique had strengthened dramatically, and his aura power had surged.
With a thought, a rapidly spinning aura sphere formed in his right hand.
He slammed it into the ground.
"BOOM!"
A crater nearly a meter wide exploded into existence.
"Not bad," Kael said happily. "About twice as strong as before. I can now fight an Elite-level Pokémon head-on."
If he'd had this power earlier, he wouldn't have been injured.
"Ao-wu…"
Shinx stared at the crater, eyes sparkling with awe.
"Haha, Shinx, you'll be this strong someday too," Kael said, laughing as he patted its head.
"Ao-wu ao-wu!"
Shinx cried energetically.
"Alright, go rest for a bit. I'll test your big brother's power," Kael said.
Shinx shook its head—it wanted to watch.
"Fine," Kael agreed.
