Chapter 28 - Chapter 28– Conflict (8)

"Alright, where the hell do we go..?" Lloyd searched for an entrance to the underground.

"Agh! This is eating me alive! There's nothing to go off of.." Lloyd scratched his head.

Imaez pointed at a residential home.

"They all went underground without any ruckus.. it's probably in a house, my intuition says the basement."

Lloyd thought— *Damn… he's so quick with it.*

The two had headed inside of a home.

"This place is wrecked.. they were definitely in a hurry." Lloyd said.

Imaez made his way to the basement.

"Where could it be…?" He whispered to himself.

His finger touched a brick— "It's out of place." He pushed it.

crrnnnk! The brick had opened a tunnel way.

"Lloyd..!"

Lloyd ran down the stairs. "Alright, let's go."

Above ground—

Naomi and Marie had been walking to the Temple of Artemis.

"I love that we're going here, but why exactly?" Marie asked Naomi.

"Old Man Art told us once that in a case where he dies, come to this temple and check the floorboards. It will guide our generation into salvation, or so he says."

*Guide our generation into salvation?* Marie scratched her head.

They walked inside the Temple— with rubble in some areas.

"Alright… the floorboards.." Naomi cracked wooden planks open, seeing nothing but dust.

"You look too! This is not a one person job!"

Marie had put Pact energy inside of her fingers and started cracking the planks open.

The two went on for a couple more minutes until—

"Hmm?" Marie had touched a small paper book— probably just 3 pages inside.

Opening it, she read the words off it.

"If you are reading this, I am dead. Fear not! This old monk will guide you onto what I have passed on. The truth behind everything. Continue onto the next page."

Marie flipped the page.

"The Artemis Cathedral in Greenwood Megacity. Inside underneath a seat you will find a book detailing what I am referencing. Flip the page."

Marie flipped the page.

"Here's what He looks like."

A man, with dazzling blond hair, purple eyes like amethyst.

His features could be described as angelic— a beautiful man.

"What is this? His fantasies..? What's up with the Monk? He doesn't seem like the type to give useless advice." Marie looked at Naomi.

"No clue. He never referenced any man looking like that. Only really talked about the First Emperor." Naomi wondered.

"Maybe, that's him..!" Marie lit up.

Underground—

"The hell..?" Imaez wondered.

A strong smell had engulfed the entire tunnel system.

The smell of iron.

"That's not good." Lloyd muttered.

Imaez had walked forward. The spluttering torches being the only illumination he had.

He took a step and felt liquid.

*Water..?* He looked down.

*Blood.*

Imaez had continued walking, grabbing a torch off the side and gripping onto his blade.

"Who did it..?" Lloyd asked himself. He ran catching up to Imaez.

A man covered in blood looked behind.

"Oh… they're alive."

He turned himself around and walked towards the pressure he was sensing.

Imaez had noticed a pressure.

"Evil.."

A man slowly walked into the vision of the two Deathslingers present.

"He's covered in blood…" Lloyd whispered.

His full body emerged.

Major General Julius had massacred everybody underground.

"Hello, two fugitives."

*If we take one more step forward. We're going to die here. Massacred.* Lloyd sweat.

"3…2….1." Imaez whispered to Lloyd.

"We run..!" Lloyd grabbed onto Imaez.

"ELECTRIFY!" He screamed turning himself into a spluttering bolt of lightning.

*I got almost no juice in the tank.. but it'll do!*

Julius had watched them leave.

He smirked.

"I'll see you, above ground. The moment you get there."

"I'll teach you a lesson."
