Chapter 13 - Chapter 13

"Everybody already knows what I'm going to get." Big Bertha stood up, waddling slowly to the end of the table. Before her was a 5-foot-long machine gun that was brown and gray. Beside it was a large clip that held 500 bullets. "They say the heaviest person always goes to the biggest gun, right?" Bertha chuckles, gripping the gun to her chest.

"Not a bad choice," Derek says. "The Miran 100 machine gun can mow down enemies in a flash." As he stood up, his feet sounded like cement hitting the ground as he walks over to a pistol that held a 20-round clip. "I've always been a fan of pistols with large magazines so this one will work for me." He clinches the Seko fully automatic pistol in his right hand while taking a seat.

The rest of the group, now seeing that two of the guns were gone, rush for it and grab the ones that piqued their interest.

"Watch out, there is max elegance coming through. I must grab my revolver and make my entrance." Ian ran for the revolver right in front of Abby before she had a chance to look at it.

"Elegance, my behind," Abby whispers as she looks to the right and a brown and silver rifle piqued her interest. The clip was smaller than most, only holding six rounds. On the side the words Raiden and a star were etched in the wood. She looks at the wood and ran her fingers down the side as if greeting an old friend. "This one should work well. It seems like it was meant for me."

Turning her eyes back towards Luna, she noticed her quiet mannered friend holding a long sniper rifle that was way larger than her frame. Walking up to Luna, she put out her fist and bumped it against her friend's. "Why did you choose a sniper rifle?"

"I felt like it was quiet like me, yet fierce because it takes an amount of calculation to make it work. I guess it was the one best suited for me. I wanted a grenade launcher but was too heavy, and I don't want to blow up a whole bunch of people at once. If I have to kill anybody it should be one person every now and then instead of several at one time."

Abby gives a silent smile to her friend. She took a seat in the corner of the room, looking over at her squad leader who was still twirling her long black hair as Captain Dashner took a deep sigh.

"For the foreseeable future, do not call me Captain but simply Monica. We'll be going by first names, especially since we will be going through enemy lines and sometimes on espionage type missions. We do not want our ranks to get out because it will lead to someone getting killed. I don't plan on getting killed because of my rank. It looks like everybody's ready to go. Go ahead and proceed into the ammunition counter and get at least one or two clips of ammunition. For the foreseeable afternoon we'll be practicing firing as many rounds we can to get comfortable with our new weapons. You're more than welcome to switch out weapons in this room. Don't forget to check and incur all good ammunition with the counter. Do I make myself clear!"

The room stood at attention as Monica walks forward, grabbing a small brown case with a lock and key in it from the table. "I hope I can guide them," she says following Derek, who was the last out of the room before her. "Alright everybody, grab some earbuds to protect your hearing from the box around the corner and stand behind me."

Monica opened the case with the key she pulled from her right breast pocket. Looking inside, she examined the all-brown semi auto gun. The clip was black with a rose on it. The initials "FL" were etched on the bottom of the clip, with Edition 1 on the bottom. Her eyes traced the blue bullets that were individually placed. Taking each one out, she rubbed her finger across each bullet. It felt slightly soft to the touch, like gel. Monica closed the case, walking towards a lane.

Abby perked up, trying to get close to Monica so she could see what the fuss was all about. She dragged Luna behind her and squeezed between Derek and Rebecca.

"Alright everybody, listen up," Monica says sternly. "This is a new prototype for a weapon that we're going to be taking to the field. It runs off magic crystals. Yes, you heard correctly, the same items that we used to power a city from the ocean. We were able to weaponize it using salt and modern technology beyond my comprehension. Somehow the scientists were able to crystallize the magic crystals and weapons and create an elemental weapon that will hopefully turn the tide. The problem is it takes so long to produce, and we don't know if there will be any fatalities in war. I don't want to bet my life on uncertainty, but if this weapon does what it says then we are going to be taking out a lot of the enemy."

"Did you know about this the whole time, or did you wait to review it with elegance?" Ian says, scratching the bottom of his chin. His eyes were aflame like a phoenix.

"I'm going to have to tape your mouth closed," Monica says. She put her hand on her head. "Yes, all senior officers are going to tell you about this. I thought these were early tests, but this appears to be the final product, or at least near the final product from what I'm told. I'm not sure they're going to let us go to the field with this particular model of weapon, but we'll see. Everyone, earplugs in and feast your eyes on the latest technology of Flora."

Rebecca held the pendant close to her chest and she started to say a prayer. "Goddess please, let this be our victory." She accidentally puts her hand on Luna's back and starts rubbing her tenderly as if soothing her.

Luna didn't mind the touch, though she did blush a bit trying to move closer to Abby. "Pssst. The chaplain is getting all handsy. Maybe she's trying to cure me of my shyness."

Abby rubbed her thumb against Luna's hand. "I think she's trying to calm everybody down because there's so much death on the front lines."

"Observe, here we go!" Monica pulled up the gun and stuck the clip in. She pulled back the slide putting it into the chamber. Boom! Boom! Two bullets zoom out the gun heading towards targets at the end of the range. One of the blue bullets hits the straw dummy and freezes it instantly. Boom, boom, boom! The shots rang out as each part of the straw figure is frozen in place.
