Chapter 29 - Chapter 29

"How did he even see?" Abby inquired.

"He was flying in a propeller copter," Monica says. "Those things are deathly silent but are only as fast as humans pushing them with their feet."

"I saw him," Luna giggled. "I could have shot him out of the sky with one pull of my trigger."

"Look at this Ms. Shyness with the jokes," Marcus bellowed as he put his feet up on the table. "You're all right with me, Shyness."

Luna looks down at the table, flushing her index finger twirling in a circle. "Thank you," she says looking over at Marcus.

"Everyone performed lovely today and even though a few of us were pegged and taken out of the game, the goddess still gave us victory," Rebecca states, glaring up at Monica.

"I am immensely grateful to all of you and what an amazing day today is. Everybody, get some rest and we'll see you here tomorrow morning to start our prep for the next exercise for closing of our training. I'm excited to see where we go as a team. I wish Bertha was here to see this victory," Monica looks away at the door of the room for a moment, trying not to look into anyone's eyes as hers started to glisten like rain from the sky.

"It's okay. We understand," Rosemary leans forward with her eyes set on Monica. "We all wish she was here, but the best thing we can do is continue to go forward and honor her memory by winning this war."

Monica put her hand over her eyes and rubbed her right hand on her temple in a circle. "I'm just tired as well, and after getting shot in the leg twice by simulation rounds, I could use a hot bath. Everyone is dismissed for the evening, go take care of yourselves."

Cody glanced around putting his fist into the air. "Who's joining me at the bar!?"

"You don't have to tell me twice," Marcus says, jumping out of his seat over the table with Cody in tow.

"What are you guys going to do?" Rebecca inquired as she put her hand through her frizzy hair full of sand.

"Sleep, just sleep," Luna fell over onto the table. "I have no idea how they have any energy for the bar."

"I think I may actually go for a stroll," Ian echoes from the back of the room. The moon is glistening tonight and soon we'll be fighting the war where real bullets come out. I assume we can't afford to make a mistake." Ian's eyes fell on the chalkboard as he walks towards the door.

"I'll join you if you don't mind," Rebecca twirled her hair a little bit, letting go of a small smile.

"It would be nice to have some company as elegant as you," Ian says, bowing. He put out his arm as Rebecca stood up, walking over and putting her arm through the gap in his shoulder.

"Aren't those two individuals cute?" Rosemary chuckles, putting her hands together. "I wonder if I should get together with both very elegant individuals. One in clergy and the other a fencing champion from the regional university. It's like a match made by goddess."

Abby looks back at Rosemary who had her hands interlocked behind her head and was looking up at the ceiling. "I do think they would make a great couple." Abby looks to her left, a slight snore coming from beside her as she noticed Luna not moving her eyes, closed with glasses leaning off her face.

"I think you may have to carry Luna home," Rosemary giggled as she stood up walking to put her hand on Abby's shoulder. "Good job out there, and I'll see you here soon."

Abby waved as Rosemary exited the room. Abby shook her head and tapped Luna on the shoulder. "Hey, wake up. We've got to walk home, you know."

"Can't you find somebody with a horse to just put me on the back of it to take us back to the living quarters?"

"Come on you," Abby says, grabbing Luna about the shoulder and looking around. "It's only a few blocks away. Let's go, and then when you get there you could take a long shower and go right to bed."

"I may just go to bed all sandy you know," Luna says as she held onto Abby, leaving the room and turning off the light.
