Chapter 32 - the Hotel

"Century Hotel," I answered without thinking.

The name slipped out so easily that it surprised me. Then I looked up at Finnick. "Why did you ask that?"

"Nothing." His face was calm, almost unreadable. "Have you never wondered who set you up?"

His question made my heart tighten. When I thought about it clearly, everything had been too planned. My drink was spiked. I was taken to a hotel room. The scandal was reported to my school. None of it felt random.

"I tried to find out," I said quietly. "I investigated back then too, but I found nothing." Then something struck me. I lifted my head and stared at him. "Finnick… do you really believe what I'm saying?"

He turned to look at me fully. I was still leaning against his shoulder without realizing it. My body had instinctively moved closer to him, seeking warmth, safety. When he noticed that, something softened in his expression.

"You're my wife," he said in a low voice. "Why wouldn't I believe you?"

The words were simple.
