Chapter 63 - A Promise Broken

"Thank you," I said softly.

When I lifted my head, my eyes met Finnick's. Something warm flickered inside my chest, and I couldn't hide the small smile on my face.

"I'll go back to work now."

Finnick felt my body relax slightly in his arms. The corner of his lips lifted into a faint smile.

"Okay," he said quietly. "I'll wait for you at home."

I nodded and stepped out of the car.

After closing the door, I didn't rush back inside the building. Instead, I stood there for a moment and watched the car leave.

Only after the Bentley disappeared from sight did I turn around and head back upstairs.

I held the lunchbox close to my chest.

The warmth from the food seeped through my clothes, spreading slowly through my body.

It felt a little like Finnick's embrace just now.

Even as I walked, I could still faintly catch the scent he left behind. The memory of his arms around me made my cheeks turn red.

Okay.

Stop thinking about it.
