The silence of the "Doom" was shattered not by a sound, but by a vibration—a low-frequency hum that rattled the very foundations of the concrete tomb. To Yuri Hanamitchi, it might have sounded like a structural failure. To me, it was the sound of the world ending. Or the sound of my husband arriving.
POV: Jay (Jasper Jean Mariano)
The scalpel was a cold, razor-sharp promise against my skin. I could feel the tiny pinprick of blood where the tip had already breached the surface of my dress. I stopped breathing. I stopped crying. Every ounce of my will was directed inward, toward the tiny life that was currently a target.
"You hear that, Starlight?" Yuri whispered, his eyes wide and glazed with madness. "That's the sound of your 'Monster' scratching at the door. But he's too late. I'm faster than a bullet."
He raised his hand, the muscles in his forearm tensing as he prepared to drive the blade down into my womb. I squeezed my eyes shut, a silent scream trapped in my throat. I'm sorry, little one. I'm so sorry.
BOOM.
The entire north wall didn't just break; it evaporated. A shockwave of pulverized concrete and dust exploded into the room, throwing Yuri backward. I felt the heat of a tactical charge, and then, through the gray haze of the debris, I saw him.
It wasn't a man. It was a silhouette of pure, unadulterated carnage.
Keifer.
He didn't walk into the room; he surged through the smoke like a vengeful god. He didn't have his usual composure. His suit was torn, his knuckles were raw and bloody, and his eyes—God, his eyes—were the color of a dying star. Behind him, the shadows of Section E moved like wraiths, clearing the corners with lethal efficiency, but Keifer didn't wait for them.
"JAY!"
His voice was a roar that shook the very air in my lungs.
POV: Keifer (Mark Keifer Watson)
The five minutes I had spent in that hospital were the greatest mistake of my existence. When I had walked back to the parking lot and saw the empty space where my SUV should have been, a part of my soul had simply snapped.
Erdix had found the signal. Felix had bypassed the Hanamitchi scramblers. And for the last forty minutes, I had been a passenger in my own body, watching the 'Monster' take total control.
We didn't use the stairs. We blew a hole through the foundation of the estate.
When the smoke cleared, the first thing I saw was Jay. She was shackled to the floor, her face pale, her eyes filled with a terror I had promised she would never feel again. And then I saw the blood on her dress. A small, red dot right over the child.
I saw the scalpel in Yuri's hand as he scrambled to his feet.
Everything slowed down. The world became a series of mechanical equations. Distance: 15 feet. Target: The man who touched what was mine. Outcome: Total Eradication.
"Keifer..." Yuri gasped, holding the blade up like a shield. "Stay back, or I'll finish—"
I didn't let him finish. I didn't use my gun. I wanted to feel him break.
I hit him with the force of a freight train. My fist connected with his jaw, a sickening crack echoing through the basement. I didn't stop. I pinned him against the jagged remains of the concrete wall, my fingers wrapping around his throat.
"You died once, Yuri," I hissed, my voice a terrifying, low vibration. "But that was a mercy. Today, I'm going to show you what happens when you threaten my wifey. Today, I'm going to show you why they call me the Monster."
I slammed his head against the stone. Once. Twice. The scalpel fell from his limp fingers, clattering onto the floor. I picked it up.
"You wanted to use this?" I whispered, holding the blade to his eye. "Let's see how it feels."
"Keifer, stop!"
It was Jay. Her voice was weak, but it was the only thing in the universe that could reach me. I looked back. She was trembling, her hand clutching her stomach. Ci n and Rory were already at her side, cutting the shackles.
"Hubby... the baby... I need you," she sobbed.
I looked at Yuri—the man who had tried to end my future. I didn't give him a theatrical death. I drove the scalpel through his throat in one swift, clinical motion, ending the Hanamitchi line forever. I didn't even watch him fall. I turned my back on his corpse and ran to my wife.
POV: Jay (The Reunion)
The moment the shackles fell, I collapsed, but I didn't hit the floor. Keifer was there. He gathered me into his arms, pulling me against his chest with a strength that was both terrifying and comforting. He was covered in dust and Yuri's blood, but to me, he smelled like home.
"I've got you," he choked out, his face buried in my hair. "I've got you, wifey. I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry I left the car."
"The baby, Keif... it hurts," I gasped, clutching his shirt.
Ci n was already there, his portable scanner out. The room was suddenly filled with the rest of Section E. Percy was guarding the door, his face a mask of fury; Erdix was on his comms; and Keigan and Keiran were standing by, their guns drawn, tears of rage in their eyes.
"Clear the way!" Ci n shouted. "We need to get her to the Black Box NOW! Keifer, carry her. Don't let her feet touch the ground!"
Keifer stood up, lifting me as if I weighed nothing. He looked at the carnage he had created, then down at me. The 'Monster' was still there, lurking in the depths of his eyes, but as he looked at me, it softened into the man who worshipped the ground I walked on.
"You're okay, Jay," he whispered, his voice trembling. "I'm never letting go again. Never."
The drive back to the Black Box was a blur of high-speed maneuvers and tactical radio chatter that I barely heard. All I could feel was the weight of Jay in my arms, her head lolling against my chest, and the terrifying coldness of her skin. She had fainted the moment we cleared the perimeter of Yuri's hellhole, her body finally surrendering to the absolute trauma of the last two hours.
POV: Keifer (Mark Keifer Watson
"Status! I need a status now!" I roared as we burst through the medical wing entrance of the mansion.
The foyer was a sea of panicked faces. Ma (Jeena), Tita Gemma, and Aries were held back by Keigan and Keiran, while Section E moved like a well-oiled machine to clear the path. I didn't stop to explain. I didn't stop to comfort anyone. I carried my wifey straight onto the sterile white bed of the high-tech ICU suite we had built
Get out! Everyone except the medical team, out!" Ci n commanded, his voice reaching a pitch of authority I'd never heard.
I didn't move. I gripped Jay's hand, my knuckles white, my eyes fixed on her pale, unmoving face.
"Keifer, let me work," Ci n pleaded, already snapping on surgical gloves while Mica and Freya rushed to set up the ultrasound. "I need to check the heir. I need to check the heartbeat."
"I'm not leaving her," I growled. My suit was stained with Yuri's blood—a grim reminder of the man I had just erased from existence—but I didn't care. If Jay didn't wake up, the rest of the world could burn for all I cared.
The Silent Monitor
The room fell into a suffocating silence, broken only by the rhythmic beep-beep-beep of the cardiac monitor hooked to Jay's chest. Mica squeezed the cold gel onto Jay's stomach—the same spot where Yuri's scalpel had left a tiny, cruel red mark.
I held my breath. My heart felt like it had stopped beating entirely.
Please, I prayed to a God I hadn't spoken to in years. Take me. Take everything I own. Just leave her. Leave them.
Then, a sound filled the room.
Thump-thump. Thump-thump. Thump-thump.
The ultrasound speaker broadcasted the rapid, defiant gallop of a fetal heartbeat. It was strong. It was steady. It was a Watson-Mariano heart, refusing to be extinguished by a ghost from the past.
"He's okay," Mica whispered, tears pricking her eyes. "The baby is safe, Keifer. The placenta held. It's a miracle, but he's safe."
I felt my knees buckle. I sank into the chair beside the bed, burying my face in Jay's hand. I sobbed—not out of sadness, but out of a relief so violent it felt like a physical blow.
"And Jay?" I choked out.
"It's neurogenic shock," Ci n said, his hand resting on my shoulder. "Her brain just shut down to protect itself from the stress. Her vitals are stabilizing now that the adrenaline is fading. She's fine, Keifer. She just needs to sleep."
The Watchman
The hours that followed were the longest of my life. I refused to change my clothes. I refused to eat. I sat in the darkened room, illuminated only by the soft green glow of the monitors.
Outside the door, the Black Box was in a state of mourning and fury. I could hear Percy and Rory patrolling the hallways, their footsteps heavy. I knew Keigan was on the phone with our global security heads, ensuring every last Hanamitchi sympathizer was hunted down. I knew Aries was in the kitchen, probably burning sage and crying with Ma.
But in this room, there was only the two of us. And the third heartbeat.
Around 3:00 AM, Jay's fingers twitched in mine.
Hubby?"
The word was barely a breath, but it was the most beautiful sound I had ever heard. I was on my feet instantly, leaning over her.
"I'm here, wifey. I'm right here," I whispered, my voice thick.
Her eyes opened slowly, unfocused and clouded with the remnants of the sedative. Her hand moved instinctively to her stomach, her eyes wide with sudden, panicked remembrance. "The baby... Yuri... the knife..."
He's gone, Jay. He's never coming back," I said, my voice dropping into that low, lethal tone. "And the baby is safe. We heard the heartbeat. He's a fighter, just like his mother."
Jay let out a long, shaky breath, her eyes filling with tears. She looked at me—really looked at me—seeing the blood on my shirt and the hollow exhaustion in my eyes. She reached up, her fingers trembling as she touched my cheek.
"You came for me," she whispered.
"I will always come for you," I vowed, kissing her palm. "I'm sorry I let my guard down. I'm sorry I left you for even a second. It will never happen again. From this moment on, the world stops at your door."
"I'm okay, Keif," she said, her voice growing slightly stronger. "We're okay."
I pulled her into my arms, as gently as I could, mindful of the IV lines and the tiny wound on her belly. I held her until the sun began to peek through the reinforced shutters of the mansion.
The "Monster" had been unleashed today, and it had left a trail of bodies in its wake. But as I watched Jay fall back into a natural, peaceful sleep, I knew I would do it all again. I would burn every city on earth to keep this peace.
The Starlight was back in the Black Box. And I would never let the shadows touch her again.
