Chapter 224 - Chapter 216 the protocol

The transition from the island back to the mainland was not a retreat; it was a mobilization.

The private jet's cabin was no longer a place of rest, but a war room. Keifer sat in the head chair, his cane leaning against the mahogany table, while Jay moved between the seats, her medical bag replaced by a kit of high-grade bio-sensors and specialized stimulants.

The Bio-Hacker's Protocol

POV: Jay

I stood before Section E in the hangar of the Black Box. Rory, Erdix, and Percy stood at attention, but their faces showed the strain of the last few weeks. They were human. They got tired. They had reaction times that could be measured in milliseconds—and against the "Vanguard," milliseconds were too slow.

"You've all been vetted for loyalty," I said, my voice ringing with a cold, clinical authority. "But loyalty doesn't stop a bullet. Physiology does."I opened a case on the table. Inside were rows of small, translucent patches."These are transdermal neural-enhancers," I explained, holding one up. "I developed the prototype in the London lab. They regulate cortisol, sharpen visual processing, and shave $0.05$ seconds off your neural-muscular response time. You won't feel 'high.' You'll just feel... faster."

" Jay," Percy whispered, looking at the patch. "Is this safe?"

"It's as safe as the man I'm trying to protect," I replied, looking toward the shadows where Keifer stood watching. "If you want to be the shield for this family, you have to be more than human. Who's first?"

Rory stepped forward without a word, baring his neck. I applied the patch with a firm press. As the serum entered his system, his pupils dilated and then constricted, his posture snapping into a preternatural stillness.

POV: Keifer (The King's Shadow)

I watched my wife work. She was no longer just the woman who mended me; she was the woman who was weaponizing my army. There was a dark, terrifying beauty in her efficiency. She was "Savage" in a way I had never seen—calculating, protective, and utterly ruthless in her pursuit of our safety.

I walked over to her as the men began their drills. I could see the tremor in her fingers—not from fear, but from the sheer amount of caffeine and adrenaline she was using to stay upright.

"You're pushing them hard, wifey," I murmured, sliding my hand around her waist.

"The Vanguard is already here, Keifer," she said, looking at the monitors showing the deep-sea scans around the island we had just left. "They showed us they can reach us anywhere. If I can give our men an edge, I'm taking it. I'm not letting anyone else end up on my operating table."

I pulled her into a quiet corner of the hangar. "And what about you? Who's patching the Surgeon?"

She leaned her head against my chest, finally closing her eyes for a brief second. "I'll sleep when the 'Vanguard' is a memory. Until then, I'm the one who keeps this heart beating." She tapped my chest right over my heart.

The First Breach

Suddenly, the hangar lights flickered—not a blackout, but a deliberate strobe. Keigan's voice exploded over the comms.

"Boss! We have a high-speed projectile incoming! It's not a missile... it's a data-spike!"

On the main screen, the "Vanguard" logo appeared—a stylized hawk. But below it, a live feed of the Black Box nursery flickered into view. Alexander and Astraea were sitting on the floor, playing with blocks, unaware of the red laser dot dancing on the wall behind them.

"THEY'RE IN THE SYSTEM!" I roared.

"No," Jay hissed, her eyes darting to her tablet. "They aren't in the system. They're using a localized laser-mic to project the image from the ridge. They're mocking us."

I grabbed my rifle, the weight of it feeling like an extension of my own arm. The fever was a memory; the Monster was fully home. "Rory! Erdix! Target the North Ridge. Jay, get to the kids. Now!"

POV: Jay (The Mother's Wrath)

I didn't run to the nursery; I sprinted.

I burst through the doors, sliding across the floor and scooping both children into my arms before the guards even turned their heads.

"Mommy! You're squishing my crown!" Astraea complained.

"Into the panic room. Now!" I commanded, my voice so sharp it made Alexander jump

I shoved them into the reinforced vault behind the bookshelf, slamming the six-inch steel door. I stayed outside, my back to the steel, holding my specialized tranquilizer rifle. My heart was a drum, but my hands were steady.

The bio-patch on my own neck—the one I hadn't told Keifer about—was pulsing, making the world seem to move in slow motion. I could see the dust motes in the air. I could hear the footsteps of the intruders in the hall three levels down.

"Come and get them," I whispered to the empty hallway. "See what a Surgeon does to people who touch her life."
