Chapter 254 - Chapter 254: The Fourth Hokage Election Begins, Tsunade Comes Late at Night to Give a Warning [HN]

The next day, sunlight once again filled the streets of Konoha.

The villagers began another busy day as usual. The marketplace was filled with vendors shouting their wares, children laughed as they played, and it was almost as if last night's dramatic change in power had been nothing more than a dream.

The ordinary people had no way of knowing what had happened inside the building that symbolized the village's highest authority. They were still concerned with daily expenses and mission rewards.

Even so, a subtle change quietly spread through the air.

News flowed silently through the streets, mission halls, and dango shops, gradually gathering momentum.

"Have you heard? The Third Hokage... seems to have fallen ill."

"Ill? What happened? Wasn't he fine yesterday?"

"I don't know. I heard it happened very suddenly, and it's serious enough that he can't handle official duties anymore."

"If the other villages find out our Hokage is seriously ill, won't they..."

"The Third Hokage really is getting old. He's worked too hard for the village all these years. His body probably can't take it anymore. He should get some proper rest."

"Rest? Can the Hokage's position stay vacant? There are so many things waiting to be handled."

"Exactly. I think it's time to choose a new Hokage."

"The Fourth Hokage? You're right! It should have happened long ago!"

...

At first, people were worried and confused, but under the guidance of an unseen hand, the discussion quickly shifted from "The Third Hokage is sick" to "The Third Hokage is old and should retire," before finally focusing on the exciting topic of electing the Fourth Hokage.

Their worries were quickly replaced by a new excitement.

The election of a new Hokage.

This was the most important matter in Konoha. It concerned the village's future.

As soon as news of the Hokage election spread, discussions exploded.

"They're choosing the Fourth Hokage! That's great! Who do you think will win?"

"Isn't it obvious? It has to be Lord Uchiha Chiya! He ended the war, he's the strongest, and he has the greatest achievements!"

"That's right! If Lord Chiya becomes Hokage, let's see who still dares bully Konoha!"

"But... the Uchiha Clan has never produced a Hokage before..."

"Just because it never happened before doesn't mean it can't happen now! Lord Chiya isn't like the other Uchiha!"

"I support Lord Chiya too!"

"I think Jonin Namikaze Minato is amazing as well! The Yellow Flash! He's young, talented, and Lord Jiraiya's disciple!"

"Lord Minato is very strong, and he's a wonderful person! But... compared to Lord Chiya, he still seems to fall a little short in prestige and experience."

...

The villagers discussed the candidates enthusiastically, analyzing and comparing every name that was brought up.

Support for Uchiha Chiya was overwhelmingly the strongest. His achievement of ending the war and his unfathomable strength had become the greatest advantages anyone could have.

Namikaze Minato also had many supporters, especially among the younger generation and those who admired him, but compared to Chiya, his momentum was noticeably weaker.

Jiraiya, Tsunade, Hatake Sakumo, and several others were also mentioned, but most people believed they were less likely than the first two.

The entire village's atmosphere quickly shifted from concern over the Third Hokage's illness to passionate excitement over the election of the Fourth Hokage.

To the ordinary villagers, the transfer of power had become a grand celebration that would decide the village's future and determine whether the hero they admired most would stand at the top.

Naturally, this wave of excitement also reached the ears of Namikaze Minato and Uzumaki Sango as they shopped in the streets.

They listened as people repeatedly mentioned and compared Minato's name with Uchiha Chiya's.

They heard the loud cheers supporting Chiya and the quieter voices supporting Minato.

Minato still wore his usual warm and sunny smile, greeting every villager who called out to him and even nodding politely to those who expressed their support.

But beside him, Sango clearly felt his hand tighten around hers for just a moment.

Even his fingertips had turned slightly cold.

Sango herself was equally shaken.

Even her fiery red hair seemed to lose some of its brightness.

She struggled to keep a calm expression, but stormy waves were already raging inside her emerald eyes.

The Third Hokage was ill?

The Fourth Hokage was about to be chosen?

So soon?

And public opinion...

The two of them silently quickened their pace.

After hurriedly buying everything they needed, they returned home without saying a word.

Once the door closed behind them, shutting out the noisy world outside, the room instantly became oppressively quiet.

"Minato..."

Sango finally broke the silence, her voice trembling slightly as she looked at her boyfriend.

The smile had already disappeared from Minato's face.

In its place was a deeply complicated expression.

He walked to the window and gazed at the lively streets outside.

"You heard it too, Sango."

His voice was quiet and slightly hoarse.

"What... what exactly is happening? How could the Third Hokage suddenly become so seriously ill? And now they're choosing the Fourth Hokage..."

Sango walked beside him and lowered her voice anxiously.

"It all happened too suddenly! And everyone seems to support..."

She stopped, unable to continue.

"They all support Senior Chiya more, don't they?"

Minato finished the sentence for her.

His tone remained calm, but the disappointment within it was impossible to hide.

Turning around, he looked at her with eyes that were no longer filled with their usual warmth.

Instead, they were filled with thought, realization, and helplessness.

"Sango, haven't you realized it yet? The Third Hokage's 'illness' probably isn't that simple."

Sango's pupils shrank.

"You mean..."

"The disturbance around the Hokage Building last night wasn't ordinary."

Minato spoke in a low voice.

As one of Konoha's elite ninjas, he possessed excellent political awareness.

Naturally, he knew more than ordinary villagers.

"Combined with today's sudden news and the overwhelming shift in public opinion...

"If I'm not mistaken, something enormous happened last night."

He never directly said the words "coup," but Sango immediately understood.

Her face instantly turned pale.

"Was it... Advisor Danzo? And those clans?"

She covered her mouth in disbelief.

"Most likely."

Minato nodded, his eyes growing sharper.

"They joined forces. As for the Third Hokage... whether willingly or by force, he has 'fallen ill' and now has to step aside for someone else."

"That's why they're rushing to hold the election for the Fourth Hokage!"

Sango finally understood.

Then her expression became even more worried.

"Then you... you've been dragged into this too! They pushed you forward because..."

"To create balance."

Minato smiled bitterly as he finished her sentence.

"Or rather, to become an acceptable 'option.'

"But I understand very well that compared to Senior Chiya, my chances of winning are... very, very small.

"Especially in a public opinion environment that's so obviously being guided."

He saw the situation very clearly.

He was merely a beautiful chess piece placed at the front.

A piece meant to highlight another, far more important piece.

Or perhaps simply to divide people's attention.

In the end, he would most likely become nothing more than a supporting candidate.

"Then... what should we do?"

Sango grabbed his arm, her eyes filled with heartache and unwillingness.

"Are we just going to let them..."

Minato gently held her hand and patted it reassuringly.

"Don't worry, Sango. I've always said that my dream of becoming Hokage is to earn that recognition through my own efforts and strength, not through methods like this."

He took a deep breath.

His eyes once again became clear and determined.

"Since this is how things have developed, we'll simply wait and see.

"I believe the village will make the best decision.

"If Senior Chiya is ultimately chosen, then I sincerely congratulate him. He will become a great Hokage.

"As for me..."

He looked out the window toward the distant horizon where his dreams and responsibilities awaited.

"I'll continue training, continue carrying out missions, and continue protecting Konoha and the people important to me in my own way.

"Becoming Hokage isn't the only path."

His calm and sincere words swept away the heaviness filling the room.

Looking at his determined profile, the storm within Sango's heart gradually calmed.

It was replaced by overwhelming warmth and pride.

She nodded firmly.

"Mm! No matter what happens, I'll always support you, Minato!"

Outside, discussions about the election of the Fourth Hokage continued to fill the village.

Inside this small home, however, the blond young man and the red-haired young woman smiled at one another.

It was as though the struggles for power outside had nothing to do with the convictions and feelings they held within their hearts.

Yet both of them understood.

The storm had already arrived.

No one could truly remain outside it.

Konoha's future was quietly moving toward a brand new direction amid the mixture of noise and peace.

...

Deep within the Uchiha Clan compound, Chiya's residence remained as peaceful as ever, standing in sharp contrast to the turmoil outside.

The message delivered by ANBU Commander Hatake Sakumo was like a stone dropped into a deep lake.

It created ripples.

But it did nothing to disturb the lake's profound calm.

Chiya did not even call a clan meeting.

He simply looked at the worried Uchiha Fugaku, who had come to report the news, and calmly said,

"I know. Everything within the clan stays the same. Keep everyone under control. No unnecessary discussions, and no one is to get involved. We simply watch."

Fugaku opened his mouth as if wanting to say something.

But when he saw Chiya's relaxed expression, as though everything was already under his control and they were merely discussing tomorrow's weather, every word became stuck in his throat.

He respectfully bowed before withdrawing, carrying both confusion and an inexplicable sense of reassurance.

Thus, while all of Konoha was stirred by the news of the Third Hokage's illness and the election of the Fourth Hokage, the powerful Uchiha Clan remained strangely silent, as though completely detached from everything.

To those paying close attention, however, that silence only made them seem even more unfathomable.

As for Chiya himself...

He spent the afternoon drinking tea beneath the corridor while teasing the cats.

In the evening, he enjoyed watching Uchiha Mikoto and Uzumaki Kushina working together harmoniously in the kitchen.

At dinner, he happily enjoyed the delicious meal prepared by the two women.

Listening to their gentle complaints and playful conversations, his life could not have been more comfortable.

Even though the system had triggered a mission related to becoming Hokage that very day, Chiya made no additional moves.

Even without the system's mission...

The position of Hokage...

Was something Uchiha Chiya would definitely claim.

There was no doubt about it.

That night, beneath a bright moon and a sky filled with stars, Chiya was enjoying a rare moment of peace and warmth as he prepared to fall asleep.

Suddenly, his closed eyelids twitched slightly.

A familiar chakra signature appeared at the edge of the Uchiha Clan compound.

It remained there for just a brief moment, as though deliberately sending him a signal.

A faint smile appeared on Chiya's lips.

He gently moved Mikoto's arm from around his body before carefully tucking Kushina's blanket around her sleeping form.

His movements were incredibly gentle, and neither woman woke up.

Putting on a loose yukata, he silently disappeared from the bedroom.

The next moment, he appeared like a ghost on the deserted street at the edge of the clan compound.

Moonlight flowed across the empty road.

At the end of the street, beneath a large tree, stood a tall and graceful figure leaning quietly against the trunk.

Her dazzling golden hair looked like flowing gold beneath the moonlight.

Chiya slowly walked toward her with a lazy smile.

"Well, well, if it isn't our legendary big gambler... no, I mean Princess Tsunade.

"What kind of wind blew you all the way to this remote Uchiha corner?

"Did you miss me?"

The woman leaning against the tree was none other than one of the Legendary Sannin, Tsunade.

There was a trace of exhaustion between her brows.

But far more obvious were the worry and urgency she could not hide.

The moment she saw Chiya looking so relaxed, as though he had just returned from a pleasant evening stroll, her anger immediately flared up.

"Chiya! You still have the mood to joke around?!"

Standing upright, Tsunade quickly walked over to him.

Her full chest rose and fell with emotion.

"Konoha is about to change completely! Do you even realize that?!"

"The village is changing?"

Chiya deliberately raised an eyebrow in surprise and reached out as though to pinch her cheek.

"The weather seems pretty nice to me. Bright moon, scattered stars..."

"Stop pretending!"

Tsunade slapped his hand away.

Her beautiful face was filled with seriousness.

"All I've heard today is that the old Third Hokage is seriously ill, stepping down, and that the Fourth Hokage election is happening immediately!

"That old man Danzo and the major clans are stirring up trouble everywhere!

"Don't tell me you don't know anything about something this important!"

She lowered her voice anxiously.

"I know you're powerful now, and your reputation is higher than ever.

"But that's exactly why this is so dangerous!

"Danzo will use any method imaginable!

"And the great clans aren't easy to deal with either!

"You and the Uchiha Clan are everyone's target right now!

"How can you still stay at home so casually?

"You need to prepare in advance!"

Her concern was obvious.

She clearly had no idea that Danzo had already become Kotoamatsukami's puppet under Chiya's control, secretly reporting every move to him.

She simply believed Chiya stood at the center of the political storm without realizing the danger.

She truly feared he would suffer a terrible loss.

Watching her worry so much for him, the smile in Chiya's eyes became warmer.

Instead of answering, he suddenly stepped forward and wrapped his arms around her without giving her any chance to refuse.

"Hey! What are you doing?! I'm talking about something important!"

Caught completely off guard, Tsunade stumbled into his firm chest.

The familiar scent surrounding him made her cheeks redden slightly.

She struggled a little, but she did not use much strength.

Ignoring her weak protest, Chiya lowered his head and gently kissed her smooth forehead.

The kiss was soft.

Yet it carried an undeniable sense of reassurance.

Tsunade immediately stopped struggling.

Her body stiffened for a moment before slowly relaxing.

The familiar warmth and scent seemed to possess some kind of magic.

The exhaustion from rushing here and the anxiety weighing on her heart quietly melted away.

"Don't worry, Tsunade."

Chiya's deep, magnetic voice sounded beside her ear, carrying an almost irresistible sense of calm.

"Konoha's sky won't change.

"And even if it does...

"It will only change into the future that I want."

He slowly released her.

Holding her face with both hands, he looked directly into her slightly dazed eyes.

A confident smile rested on his lips.

"Danzo? The great clans?"

He chuckled lazily.

"They're only performing a lively play according to the script I already wrote.

"The audience seems to be enjoying it, don't they?"

Tsunade's pupils contracted.

She stared at him in complete shock.

"Y... You mean..."

"It means everything is under control."

Chiya gently flicked her nose with his finger.

"I, Uchiha Chiya, haven't fallen so low that I need you to worry about me.

"Besides, you secretly came all the way here in the middle of the night.

"You must have been waiting for quite a while."

Listening to his almost arrogant confidence and looking into those unfathomable eyes that seemed capable of seeing through everything, the burden weighing on Tsunade's heart miraculously disappeared.

She had always known this man was unfathomable.

But she had never imagined he could secretly control such an enormous situation.

Even Danzo and all the major clans had become pieces on his chessboard?

After the overwhelming shock came an indescribable feeling of relief and...

Pride.

She rolled her eyes at him with an enchanting expression.

"Who said I was worried about you?

"Don't flatter yourself.

"I was just... just afraid someone would sell you, and you'd still help them count the money."

Although she said that, the tension in her body and the worry between her brows had completely vanished.

Chiya laughed heartily and pulled her into another embrace.

"Yes, yes. My Princess Tsunade is the most amazing.

"Come on.

"It's late, and the night air is getting cold.

"Mikoto and Kushina are already asleep.

"I still have an empty room at my place.

"Or... if you don't mind, we could have a drink first, and maybe squeeze into the same room afterward?"

"Get lost!"

Tsunade's beautiful face turned bright red as she lightly punched him.

But she did not push him away.

Instead, she allowed him to keep his arm around her as they slowly walked toward the quiet residence.

Moonlight stretched their shadows across the ground until they seemed to merge together.

Outside, the world was filled with political storms and shifting power.

Here, however, there were only the whispers of lovers and the calm confidence of someone who already controlled everything.

Chiya looked up toward Hokage Rock.

His eyes were deep and unreadable.

The play...

Had only just begun.

And he...

Was the only director.
