Chapter 24 - caught

The breakfast table was already lively when Keifer and Jay walked in.

Jay was still half-sleepy.

Keifer looked… suspiciously calm.

Too calm.

Serina's eyes immediately flicked to the two of them — the way Jay was walking a little closer to Keifer than usual… the way his hand almost brushed her back before he stopped himself.

Serina smiled.

That dangerous, knowing smile.

"So…" she said lightly, pouring tea.

"Did you both sleep well?"

Jay nearly choked on her juice.

Keifer froze for half a second.

Jasfer looked up from his plate slowly.

Very slowly.

"Oh," he said casually, "I'm sure they did."

Jay blinked.

"Dad—"

Keizer cleared his throat.

But the smile in his eyes betrayed him completely.

"Peacefully," he added.

"Very peacefully."

Jay's ears burned.

Serina leaned her chin into her palm and tilted her head at them.

"Of course you slept well," she said sweetly.

"After all… cuddling is very comfortable, no?"

Jay's spoon slipped from her hand.

Clink.

Keifer turned sharply.

"Ma—"

Serina raised one eyebrow.

"Hmm?"

Jasfer chuckled.

"We all saw you this morning," he said simply.

"On the couch. Both of you. Wrapped around each other like—"

"Dad!" Jay cried.

Keizer finally joined in, calmly folding his newspaper.

"You were still asleep when we passed by," he said gently.

"Jay's head on Keifer's chest. His arm around her."

He paused.

"Neither of you even moved."

Jay slowly covered her face with both hands.

"Oh my God…"

Keifer rubbed the back of his neck.

"…We came in late."

Serina laughed softly.

"Late?"

"No, darling. You came in quietly. Very quietly."

She looked at Jay with mock innocence.

"And you were holding him very tightly, sweetheart."

Jay peeked through her fingers.

"I—I thought it was a dream…"

Jasfer smiled warmly at her.

"Not a dream, beta."

Keifer glanced at Jay.

She glanced at him.

Their eyes met.

And somehow… both of them smiled.

Keizer watched them for a moment — silently proud.

Then, very casually, he added,

"You know… for people who haven't confessed anything yet, you both look extremely settled."

Keifer almost laughed.

Jay's heartbeat went wild.

Serina clapped her hands once.

"Alright, alright. Eat before it gets cold."

Then she leaned closer to Jay and whispered loudly enough for everyone to hear,

"But yes… you both definitely slept very peacefully."

Jay hid her face again.

Keifer, however—

reached under the table…

and quietly held her hand.
