Chapter 5 - Chapter 5: Did This Kid Learn Forbidden Arts?!

While one side spoke of one matter, the other side spoke of another.

Aldrich went to report to his superior.

Karl, however, did not return to his own room.

Instead, after winding around through several corridors, he headed to the library.

To be honest,

Kamar-Taj was a sorcerer organization with an exceptionally good atmosphere.

If nothing else,

Kamar-Taj's library had no defenses at all.

Any sorcerer could borrow and read books here.

Even the Sorcerer Supreme's secret collection—so long as you could understand it, you were allowed to look through it.

At this moment, the tomes weren't restricted in any way.

The librarian was just a librarian, responsible specifically for managing book loans—Wong wasn't even the one overseeing it.

The library only became strict

after Kaecilius betrayed them, and after the librarian was hanged.

Only then did the Sorcerer Supreme realize that not every tome was suitable for sorcerers to read,

and only then did they begin having Wong manage the library.

So,

when Karl entered the library, there wasn't the slightest stir.

Looking at the antique, classical-looking books all around him, Karl's face was full of excitement.

He could read all these books whenever he wanted!

With his god-tier talent, he could definitely become stronger quickly!

"But you have to walk the road step by step, and eat one bite at a time."

"I should start by learning the most basic magic first."

Karl thought to himself.

A skyscraper rises from the ground up.

Even with talent, you couldn't ignore the fundamentals.

Kamar-Taj didn't have many "basic" spells: the Portal, magical shields, magical chains, and a kind of combat art that enhanced physical fitness.

These were the most fundamental magics for Kamar-Taj sorcerers.

However,

that didn't mean their power was small.

The Sorcerer Supreme, the Ancient One, relied on these four kinds of magic

to fight Kaecilius and the rebel group he brought along—alone.

If the Sorcerer Supreme hadn't held back from killing them, they might all have been wiped out, which showed just how terrifying these spells were.

Karl had already learned the Portal.

For the next spell,

Karl decided to learn the magical chain—

the same magic Doctor Strange had just started learning, the one he used to fight Baron Mordo.

Using mystical energy, it formed a high-energy chain.

Control, attack, cutting, defense—truly an all-in-one offense-and-defense technique.

Karl liked this magic a great deal.

He wandered through the library for a while.

Karl finally found some basic books.

"Analysis of the Laws of the Universe, A General History of the World…"

"So it really is 'knowledge is power,' huh."

Karl rolled his eyes.

Being a sorcerer wasn't that easy.

If you wanted to become a sorcerer, you still had to put in the work—two years of practice, three years of casting, five years of simulation.

If you couldn't even make sense of the composition of runes or the structure of spell arrays,

what magic were you going to learn?

Fortunately, although Karl hadn't been able to use magic before, his fundamentals were very solid, so learning the magical chain wasn't a problem.

After borrowing the relevant books,

Karl began studying right there in the library.

"Focus your mind, construct the runes, borrow power."

[Ding!]

[Detected: You are learning the Magical Chain! God-tier talent triggers a 100x Critical Strike!]

[You have mastered the magic—Eldritch Whip!]

The system's prompt sounded immediately.

Karl's heart jolted.

God-tier talent!

It really was insanely strong!

He mastered a new spell that fast?

This was absurdly powerful!

As he thought that,

Karl started itching to try it out.

He brought his hands together.

Golden threads were pulled straight out from his palms.

On those golden threads were countless tiny runes completely invisible to the naked eye.

Hundreds—thousands—of golden threads formed an extremely dazzling chain,

radiating astonishing power.

Over there, the librarian had his head down reading.

Suddenly, he sensed a wave of magical fluctuation nearby.

He looked up, instinctively about to scold whoever it was.

No magic in the library—didn't they know that?

But when he raised his head—

Oh?

Karl?

An Eldritch Whip?

Then it's fine.

Every sorcerer in Kamar-Taj knew Karl's talent wasn't anything special.

Three years and he still hadn't even gotten started.

Since it was Karl practicing magic, whatever—he couldn't possibly pose any threat.

What a joke.

Don't let the library's plain appearance fool you—it looked like some endangered historical building from centuries ago.

But it was one of Kamar-Taj's most important buildings.

The Eye of Agamotto and the teleportation point leading to the Sanctum were right next door.

How could a building like that be simple?

Every inch of the structure had runes carved into it.

Even if a magnitude-nine earthquake struck, it still wouldn't be able to do anything to this building.

Karl?

Let him stand there attacking for an entire day—could he damage the library?

The librarian seriously doubted it.

With that thought,

the librarian lowered his head and went back to reading, completely ignoring Karl.

Smack!

Crash-clatter-clatter!!

The librarian blankly raised his head.

A beam of sunlight fell from the sky, landing directly on his head.

A massive crack had appeared above him.

The library's once-gorgeous ceiling had been split clean in two.

In the middle was a gigantic fissure, almost two or three meters wide.

Along the edges were melted traces, as if the building had been scorched by extreme heat.

The library…

had been split open!!

Librarian: !!!!!!

"Holy shit, what is going on?!"

"An enemy invasion?!"

The librarian sprang to his feet. With a swipe of both hands, two shields appeared in his grip.

This librarian—

was unmistakably a veteran sorcerer!

He was only a tiny step away from becoming a Master Sorcerer.

"No—wait!"

"This isn't an enemy invasion!"

The librarian snapped back to his senses.

If it were an invasion, they wouldn't hit once and then stop.

He inspected the scene for a long while.

In the end, his gaze landed on Karl, whose expression was awkward.

"Did you do this?"

"Ahem."

"Looks like it."

Karl answered a little embarrassed.

Yeah…

There was no keeping a low profile now.

First day of learning, and he split the library in half.

He wasn't going to have to pay for this, was he?

Right now, he genuinely might not be able to afford it!

Who could have expected this spell to be so powerful—one strike and it cleaved the library?

Karl was extremely mortified.

The librarian, meanwhile, was stunned, his face full of disbelief as he demanded:

"How did you do it?"

"With this!"

Karl stretched his hands apart like he was pulling noodles, and a golden Eldritch Whip appeared in his grasp.

"Eldritch Whip?"

"You're messing with me."

"You're telling me you used an Eldritch Whip to split a library that's been reinforced by magic over and over again?"

"Do you think I'm an idiot?"

The librarian snapped.

What kind of spell was an Eldritch Whip?

A most basic spell!

Its killing power wasn't high at all.

And it split the library?

He didn't believe it.

"It's true!"

Karl insisted seriously.

"I don't believe you. Show me."

"If you can split it, I'll take responsibility for what happened to the library."

"But if you've been secretly hoarding some high-powered magic, I will absolutely send you to the Master Sorcerer to face judgment."

The librarian spoke coldly.

Come on.

Karl?

An Eldritch Whip split the library?

Was he supposed to be stupid?

This kid had definitely learned forbidden arts!
