[Start of the chapter]

Karl only spent a moment talking with Tony Stark.

The rift in the sky expanded again—widening by another ring.

A mechanical creation, like the Great Wall itself, descended from above.

Just looking at it, it had to be at least a thousand meters long!

A thousand meters—what does that even mean?

Even the world's largest aircraft carrier is only a bit over three hundred meters.

The world's largest oil tanker tops out at around five hundred meters.

Not even half the length of that thing in the sky.

From the ground, it looked like the heavens were pressing down—like the sky itself was collapsing.

That sensation of "the sky is falling"…

If you hadn't lived it, you couldn't understand it.

Just from the dense array of gun muzzles across its surface, it was obvious this wasn't some simple command ship—it was a fanged behemoth, a giant beast bristling with teeth.

The moment this gigantic warship arrived, the entire world erupted.

The people of New York City were even more panicked.

Countless people fled in terror.

And it wasn't just ordinary civilians.

Even the World Security Council was in a frenzy.

If that thing wasn't taken down, it absolutely had the power to wipe out a whole country!

At this moment…

The World Security Council was in a standoff with Nick Fury.

"Fury, we have to launch a nuclear missile. Otherwise, we have no way to handle that thing."

"Earlier you said that in outer space, nukes couldn't pose a threat."

"Now what do you have to say?"

"It's already arrived on Earth."

A member of the World Security Council pressed aggressively, step by step.

They weren't lunatics.

In outer space, nukes might be useless—but now?

That thing was already on Earth. They couldn't just sit on their hands.

If they let it rampage on Earth, the United States would be occupied.

"That's New York City!"

"Even if the nuke detonates in the sky, New York City will be destroyed, and the surrounding cities will be affected!"

Nick Fury ground his teeth as he spoke.

Why are nuclear weapons humanity's strongest weapons?

Not only because of their city-erasing destructive power, but also because they unleash a terrifying electromagnetic pulse.

Drop a single nuke, and multiple cities get wrecked.

As for the radiation people fear so much, that's honestly not the main issue.

Modern humanity has already developed low-radiation nuclear weapons—after detonation, the radiation can even be reduced to a safe threshold within two hours.

Were these people insane?

"Hmph, Fury. If you won't let us launch a nuclear weapon, then you'd better propose a solution."

"If we don't stop them, they'll occupy Earth."

Several members of the World Security Council had icy expressions.

The Chitauri were the most trash-tier army in the galaxy.

But Earth didn't even qualify to enter the galaxy in the first place.

The Chitauri could completely crush them.

To say nothing else—

The ship's onboard computer could directly paralyze Earth's military command systems. How do you fight that?

Tony Stark could do it easily—why wouldn't the Chitauri be able to?

They had no other options!

"No. I absolutely refuse. I believe in my team."

Nick Fury said that, then forcibly cut the communication.

But…

Inside S.H.I.E.L.D., he didn't control everyone—especially with HYDRA in the picture.

He couldn't stop it at all.

Two fighter jets took off, and they launched the nuclear weapon.

New York City.

Karl regrouped with the Avengers.

Karl's face was utterly calm, not taking it to heart.

The Avengers, on the other hand, were so worried they were practically overheating.

"How do we deal with that thing?"

"The firepower is way too vicious."

Thor couldn't help shaking his head.

Now he had no illusions about ignoring the power of a starship like that.

Earlier he'd tried to charge up there, and he was blasted down by overwhelming cannon fire.

So they were stuck.

They'd gathered together, but they had no solution at all.

That thing was too brutal.

They discussed it with complicated expressions—but right at that moment, Tony Stark's expression turned even uglier.

"This is bad. A nuclear missile is coming this way."

"We can't let it detonate, or all of New York City is finished!"

Tony Stark spoke urgently.

The ones who understood what that meant all turned pale.

A nuke—the strongest weapon humanity had.

If it went off, they'd be done too.

"A nuke?"

"Politicians really love making trouble for themselves."

Karl spoke.

The New York Sanctum was here.

This place was also one of Earth's three major magical nodes.

If a nuclear weapon detonated here, that would be one hell of a circus!

The New York Sanctum could not be lost!

"I'll handle this."

Karl sighed.

"Karl-sensei, it's not that I doubt your energy, but how are you planning to handle it?"

"A nuke is going to explode."

Tony Stark looked suspicious.

Karl's magic so far had all been head-on clashes—this didn't seem like something he could usefully "punch" through.

"A mountain man has his own clever plan!"

After saying that, Karl shot into the sky.

The instant he rose, the cannons that had been wreaking havoc all pivoted and locked onto Karl.

Just like Thanos's flagship dealing with Captain Marvel—

Countless cannons opened fire on Karl.

The Avengers were horrified.

Was he looking for death?!

With that kind of bombardment, even Thor would be severely injured!

Why did Karl charge straight up?!

Wasn't that way too reckless?!

But before they could say more—

Karl swept a hand.

Down below, the Avengers all widened their eyes.

"What kind of magic is that?!"

Thor's mouth hung open as he spoke.

In the sky—

A massive golden ring of light appeared.

It directly covered a range of over a thousand meters.

All the cannon fire launched by that enormous flagship entered the golden ring—

And then vanished without a trace, causing absolutely no damage to Earth.

The sorcerers on the ground recognized it at a glance.

A Portal.

But precisely because of that, they were utterly stunned.

Was this really a Portal one person could produce?!

A Portal could indeed be opened very large.

In Avengers: Endgame, huge armies were all transported by Portals.

But—

That was the result of hundreds—thousands—of sorcerers opening Portals together.

One person… could open a Portal like this?

Wasn't he afraid he'd be drained into a dried-up husk?!

Was the energy in his body infinite?!

This was way too monstrous!

Even Kaecilius, a Master Sorcerer, completely lost composure.

His facial expression twisted.

Even he couldn't create a Portal this huge!

How was this kid so freakish?!

And it wasn't just them.

Even Nick Fury at S.H.I.E.L.D. was dumbstruck.

What the hell was this?!

There was someone on Earth who could do this?

And more importantly—

What about the nuke they launched? Where did it go?

And that terrifying firepower—where did it all go?

With magic like this, wouldn't he be invincible?
