Chapter 31 - Chapter 31: source of magic power, The Agent

When Caroline produced 315 gold coins, Aicia beside her was dumbstruck.

"Wow, who knew you were a little rich girl, Caroline."

"Cut the jokes—that's several years of my savings."

"Come help move these goodies to the storeroom."

It took Caroline and the others more than half an hour to tidy the shelves.

Seeing they were done, Draco continued.

"Do you buy magic potions here?"

Having been burned once, Caroline grew wary.

"Heh-heh, sir, why don't you tell me how many you've got for sale."

Draco took three vials from his storage ring and set them on the table.

"Red—Healing Elixir: as long as you're still breathing you'll be back to full health; it can even regrow severed limbs."

"Blue—Mana Potion: instantly restores all Magical Essence in the body."

"Yellow—Berserk Brew: warriors only, triples strength briefly, no side-effects."

"What!?"

Caroline's pupils shrank and her breath caught when she heard the descriptions.

Magic potions were already precious enough.

These three on the table were the most potent she'd ever seen—rarities among rarities.

The Old Man nearby looked at Draco as though staring at a monster.

"Old-timer, can you appraise them?"

The Old Man smiled confidently. "Hmph, Boss, don't underestimate me."

He stepped forward, picked up the Healing Elixir, examined it, and finally nodded.

"The color's unusual, but it's definitely a restorative potion—and judging by the energy inside, this gentleman's telling the truth."

"Boss, the price won't be low."

"What about the other two?"

"The Mana Potion checks out, but I've never seen this Berserk Brew before."

"Sir, may I taste a drop?"

Draco nodded.

The Old Man lifted the Berserk Brew and took a tiny sip.

"Mm…"

He squinted as if savoring something.

Moments later he opened his eyes, expression unreadable.

"Well?" Caroline asked.

"Tastes good."

"Er—no, I mean the effect's good."

At that, dollar signs flashed in Caroline's eyes.

"I'm going to be rich!" she secretly cheered.

She spun toward Draco.

"Sir, I've got a bold idea."

"Don't tell me you want to write an IOU."

…Sir, you're sharp."

"Heh."

Caroline was out of cash; even if she had any, she couldn't afford the potions.

By her reckoning, ten gold a bottle would still have buyers fighting for it.

These were life-savers at crunch time.

But no amount of wheedling worked this round.

Draco wasn't a sucker who handed out money for fun.

So Caroline played her last card.

"Sir, I'll pledge my most precious possession; when I've earned enough I'll redeem it."

Draco looked her over carefully.

She was indeed starting to fill out nicely.

Seeing his gaze, Caroline blushed. "What are you looking at? That's not what I meant."

'That'? What's 'that'?"

"You… pervert!"

Amused by her shyness, Draco stopped teasing.

"So what is it? Let me see."

Caroline hesitated, then pulled a bead from her bosom.

"I found this by chance; it's how I learned dual-element magic."

But I have no idea what it's called."

Draco took the bead and studied it, sensing nothing unusual.

"System, appraise."

[Item]: source of magic power

[Info]: Seals a soul fragment of???,????????

[Effects]: Raises Magical Essence affinity, +20% magic attack, +30% final MP, MP regen becomes 1% every 3 min.

Draco's pupils shrank—insane stat boosts.

Even crazier, the regen was percentage-based.

So even if his MP later hit the hundreds of millions, it would refill in just five hours.

An absolute god-item for drawn-out fights and big ultimates.

With it, his Summoner skills would never run dry.

He could churn out gear and items at will.

"Caroline, how about this."

"Give me the trinket and I'll make you… hmm… our Guild's Agent, deal?"

"Guild?"

"Agent?"

Caroline and Aicia clearly didn't grasp the business opportunity hidden in those words.

"What does an Agent do?"

"Simple: I'll hand goods to you for disposal."

"I set a fixed price; how much profit you squeeze out is up to you."

"You shoulder no financial risk—sell however many, remit the base cost for those sold."

"I'll even arrange transport and personal protection."

The two women were stunned by his pitch.

"There's really such a good deal in this world?"

Aicia could hardly believe it.

"There is—you just never ran into it."

"Look how lucky Caroline is."

Aicia couldn't argue; Caroline did seem favored by fortune.

Finding money on the street happened to her all the time—Aicia had seen it herself.
