Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: The engagement

A few years pass by and I'm now seventeen years of age while my sister Sayuri is twenty three.

Sayuri was to be engaged to a wealthy prince of another kingdom who would come and visit Akarui very shortly. His name was Prince Ayoshi Ren of Okinawa.

Sayuri was head over heels with Prince Ayoshi and she was more than willing to marry him.

On that day, the maids got her prepared in the morning for prince Ayoshi's arrival to Akarui empire that day. Meanwhile, I stayed put in my room occupied with my embroidery as I carefully made a beautiful art from it. Sayuri barged into my room after some time and said, "Look, Suzuha. You may think you're unique and all but you better not steal my spotlight and my one and only chance with Prince Ayoshi, alright?"

"What makes you think I would be so vile and steal your marriage from you?" I asked her plainly.

"Ha! You have always taken everything from me since the day you were born into this world, Suzuha. All you get is everyone's attention and i hate it!"

"Sayuri, kindly exit my room, please. I'm very busy with my embroidery here. I need no distractions."

"Your talent for embroidery may just be the only thing that makes you unique. Every other thing about you is disgusting. Stay put."

Sayuri slammed the door as she walked out of my room and i was fuming with rage. I had no business with the prince of Okinawa of course, but when he arrived, I had to come down and welcome him. I wasn't bothered about what my sister would say about me coming down to address him. Prince Ayoshi was my soon to be brother-in-law whatsoever.

Prince Ayoshi Ren arrived in a splendid carriage as my father stepped outside to welcome him.

"Greetings, Prince Ayoshi. Welcome to Akarui empire."

Prince Ayoshi gazed at the palace and his surroundings.

"Your majesty, it is an honour to be here. Thank you for giving me the privilege to marry your first daughter. " Ayoshi said warmly.

I peeped outside my bedroom window as I glanced upon the most handsome looking guy I have ever seen before. He had black hair, dreamy Hazel eyes and a tall appearance. But he was getting engaged to my elder sister, so I had to behave myself.

My family were all seated on the dining when it was time for me and my sister to arrive. I put on one of my most stunning gowns and went to the dining with Sayuri.

When Prince Ayoshi saw us, he looked amazed. He exclaimed, "I have never seen such outstanding beauty before.!"

Sayuri laughed, being totally flattered by his words and said, "Oh, Ayoshi. I'm so excited for us to get-"

She was cut short as Ayoshi gravely approached me and went on his knees. He pulled out a ring and said, "I can't believe I'm getting engaged such a beauty like you." Then he slipped the ring unto my finger. I clutched my gown being petrified in fright as Sayuri looked as fierce as ever towards me. My parents looked horrified. Until my dad rose up and said, "Prince Ayoshi, that is my youngest daughter. Sayuri is the eldest daughter of mine."

Ayoshi got up and gave a quick look at Sayuri.

"I would have never guessed." Ayoshi said. "But your youngest daughter right here, is so charming with her elegance. "

"Oh, P-prince Ayoshi... I-I am very flattered, b-but my sister..." I stammered in my panic. Sayuri was going to end my life for what had happened.

Ayoshi kissed my hand and said, "This is the girl I want to marry."

"What? But we had a deal that you would marry my eldest daughter!" My father yelled.

"Well, change of plans." Ayoshi said as he turned to me. "Please, fair lady. What is your name?"

"S-S-Suzuha..." I said in humiliation.

"I wish to have your hand in marriage. Will you accept my proposal?" Ayoshi asked me.

But before I could reply, Sayuri broke out into rage and yelled at me saying, "Suzuha, you witch! You have everything you want. But that just is enough for you as you want my prestigious marriage too!? I hate you, Suzuha! I'm going to make your life miserable!" Sayuri stormed off with saying that, and Ayoshi kept on insisting that I accept his proposal despite what Sayuri just said.

My father sent him back to Okinawa in rage as I instantly threw the ring that Ayoshi had put on my finger. I was feeling guilty that my sister was always in my shadow, while I stayed in front of everybody wowing them with my talents. The engagement was a freaking disaster because I showed up and I hated myself for it.

That night, I heard Sayuri sulking in her room all through as i layed on my bed listening. I had tried to apologise to her sincerely, but she wouldn't listen to me at all.

Ayoshi was such a lunatic to turn down my sister like that with no shame in front of my family. But I couldn't do anything about it, only father could sort things out.

He assured me that he would arrange another marriage for Sayuri but surprisingly, Sayuri wasn't interested in getting married again. She wanted to inherit the throne and just rule as the empress of Akarui.
