Jay's POV
Phew. đ„ The number of times that door's been slammed open todayâ I'm half convinced it's plotting revenge. Hey, doors feel pain too, you know.
The moment I step inside, chaos breathes again.
"Jay! You worried us!" Mia cries, practically tackling me before I could even blink . Her hug was tightâtoo tightâbut weirdly comforting.
"Anyway," she continues, turning toward the others with suspicion in her eyes, "who arethese clowns?"
"Excuse me," the snakes who stood behind herâSection Eâsaid in perfect sync " we're Jay's besties."
"No, we are!" someone from Night Shadow snapped back.
"Nope! We are!"
"It's us!"
"Oh please, we claimed her first!"
"She's part of the Night Shadows!"
"But she's part of Section E!"
The air thicker with every word.
"Yeah, sureâlike you didn't use her," Brooke bit , her glare sharp enough to cut glass. Then She pointed at Keifer. "And youâyou broke her heart like she was just a game."
Everything went quiet.
Keifer doesn't move. His eyes glassy and unfocused, as if he's replaying every mistake in his mind. Tears threatening to fall.
"That's enough!" I yelled, and my voice sharper harder than I expected.
Everyone froze. Even the tension seems to hold its breath.
"No one talks to him like that," I continued, my chest tight, voice trembling but steady. "Sure, he broke me. He hurt me. But don't you dare act like it was simple. He was justâjust trying to protect me."
The silence that followed was fragile; one wrong word and it could shatter.
"Now," I breathe in, forcing a shaky smile, "Night Shadow⊠meet my past and my future: Section E."
I say it like nothing happened, but every word burns my throat . Both groups exchange uneasy glances, confusion mixing with curiosity.
Thenâ
"Wait⊠Felix?" Mia whispers loudly enough for everyone to hear.
"Mia?" Felix replies, stepping closer, disbelief flickering on his face. Then suddenly, he scoops her into his arms.
"I missed you so much!" Mia yells, hitting his chest mid-laugh and mid-tear.
"Owww!" Felix winces, but he's grinning like a fool.
"Wait, you two know each other?" I ask, half stunned, half amused.
"Yeah," Felix says, rubbing his arm. "We've been dating for a year now."
I blink. "So he's the one you've been talking about all this time?"
She grinned, cheeks pink. "Maybe."
And just like that, the room Softened . Laughter starts bubbling up again, uncertain at first but slowly familiar.
We gather in the kitchen laterâDenzel helping eman cook while everyone else argues over who's better at chopping vegetables. The smell of garlic and soy sauce fills the air, candles flickering across the table as shadows dance across our faces.
For once, it feels⊠okay.
Past and future sitting side by side. Just existing.
And as I looked aroundâat Keifer wiping his eyes next to me at Mia blushing on Felix's shoulderâI let myself smile.a real one.
i slowly bend my head toward Keifer's shoulder and leaned on it he was surprised but then he melted putting his hand on my waist.
"ooooohhh " section e and night shadows teased
Maybe pain doesn't vanish. Maybe it just learns to breathe beside peace.
And tonight, that's enough. Sure I won't forgive Keifer that easily but still.
