Drake's POV
come quick, Jay's boyfriend is awake
boyfriend that hit me hard I loved Jay. My chest tightened. For weeks, I'd imagined this moment — yet not like this. Not with my heart tangled in guilt and something heavier than I had words for. Keifer was awake, and with was her. He was the boy she loved. The boy who had everything I wanted.
I drove through the gray London drizzle toward St. Anne's, rain drumming against the windshield. Streetlights blurred into streaks of gold across the wet road, and every mile carried me closer to her — to Jay.
Even her name reminded me of her hazel brown hair brushing against her cheeks, eyes deep and steady, alive with that quiet, fearless fire that drew people in. There was a confidence in the way she carried herself, something that made the world tilt slightly when she entered a room. And yet, beneath all of that strength, there was a gentleness that undid me.
I was supposed to be her friend. The one who showed up when she was too exhausted to remember to eat, who slipped through hospital corridors with coffee and quiet words. I watched her hold herself together for him, even as she fell apart inside. Every brush of her hand, every tired smile she gave me, set off sparks I tried to smother. And when she leaned her head on my shoulder, whispering thank you through trembling lips, I had to remind myself to breathe.
I stepped into St. Anne's, the corridor carrying with it faint echoes of her perfume — soft, familiar, and heartbreakingly close. My pulse quickened at the thought of her I peeked the the glass door, she was there sitting by his bed, her hands folded around his. There foreheads resting on each others. His hand laid perfectly on her waist as if she's always belonged to him.
She deserves happiness — I know that. But some selfish part of me long for her.
Keifer is awake. The world rights itself again.
And me? I'm just the shadow left behind — still loving her, quietly, hopelessly.
My love. My secret.
Jay.
