Chapter 14 - Chapter 14

Amping up his power, Mark continues to capture and murder his victims in cold blood much to the point a curfew is set by the police until they find the one responsible. Covering his tracks, he has his entire home packed up and all the evidence that could lead back to him destroyed and buried. The four men from the night before are being kept in a different room as Mark walks inside. He has his guards step outside and lock the door behind them as he transforms and slaughters the four men with his bare hands, ripping them to shreds for failing to kill Amber. Stepping outside and wiping the blood off his hands, he calls up Chester and Derrick along with their gang and offers to triple their pay if they finish off Amber and anyone else that gets in their way. A pause on the phone is heard before the gang's leader, T-Bone comes on and accepts his offer with conditions - no code of conduct, no rules, no games and they do it their way as Mark's way failed and Amber survived. Before he can reply, the line disconnects as Mark smirks and tosses his phone to his bodyguard.

T-Bone and his gang begin their rampage all across Oceancreek in order to draw out Amber and it works as she appears in her battlesuit in the middle of the street causing T-Bone to slam on the brakes and bring the car to a screeching halt. Her and T-Bone lock eyes as he climbs out, armed with an assault rifle and stands in front of his vehicle. Amber balls her hands into fists and instantly recognizes him as one of the attackers.

 Amber Strong: I remember you.

 T-Bone: I know you do.

He takes aim at her, but she remains motionless challenging him to fire. Firing a bullet, Amber's senses is far quicker as she uses her indestructible bracelet to block it. Sparks fly from the collision and causes T-Bone to shoot at her again, but Amber is able to block and dodge each bullet until she is right in his face, snatches his weapon away and shoves him back. Not backing down, T-Bone takes out his knife and swings at her, but Amber knocks it away, throws him down when a gunshot rings out and looking at her right shoulder, blood appears and the bullet comes clean out. Collapsing to the ground, T-Bone's fellow gang member picks him up and the two climb into their car to speed away as Amber presses her hand against the wound to stop the bleeding. Standing to her feet, she turns to leave only to be plowed into by an oncoming car! Hitting the ground hard, Amber yells in pain as the car comes to a stop and three masked men step out, all members of T-Bone's gang. T-Bone and the man he was with return, all armed with weapons. Becoming angry, Amber jumps to her feet, shoves one of the men away, delivers a hard uppercut to another, blocks more bullets and kicks the third man to the ground then pushes the other two down as T-Bone smacks her in the face with the butt of his rifle. Dazed, she catches the rifle and throws it away as she kicks T-Bone to the ground. Jumping to his feet, he starts to display a skillset of martial arts as the two block one another's blows until Amber blasts him with an energy blast. Before she can fully charge herself, she is struck with a fireball that comes from Mark, now in full Soul Taker form. Wounded, Amber attempts to attack, but Soul Taker punches her away. Trying to stand up, Soul Taker throws another fireball into the vehicle that blows up and sends Amber sliding across the pavement and lands against the wall of a store. Approaching her, Amber, wounded, looks up at her nemesis as he stands above her. Bloodied, battered and defeated, Soul Taker presses his hand against Amber's wound on her hip making her wince in pain.

Soul Taker: I told you, you are messing with a power you have no idea about. I have the ability to wipe this entire city off the face of this pathetic world, but I'm having too much fun.

He looks at the Thunderbird on her suit and smirks.

Soul Taker: Thunderbird. It's cute. Next time we meet, I will not show such mercy. And this was me pulling my punches.

The team departs as Amber is able to pull herself off the car but is not able to leave when she is surrounded by police officers demanding she put her hands up. No other choice, she does so as they cuff her hands behind her back and place her into one of the vehicles.

The story picks up from the opening monologue as Amber sits in a chair, her wounds on her head bandaged and cleaned, but her hair is a mess and her battlesuit has tears in them. The door to the room opens and two detectives enter, both introducing themselves as Detective Adrian Santiago and his partner Detective Jessica Perez. They sit down across from her and get to it by asking her to explain what happened, but Amber just sits there, silent and dazed.

 Detective Adrian Santiago: Ms. Strong?

Amber looks at them; a tear streams down her face then she looks down at her bloodied hands.

Amber Strong: Have you ever felt so powerful that you could withstand anything only to be exposed as a fraud?

Detective Jessica Perez: I'm sorry, but we don't -

Amber Strong: I do. I failed to stop him and its innocent blood on my hands.

Detective Jessica Perez: And who is "him?"

Amber Strong: The one you have been looking for. The one that has murdered countless women. Mark Nelson.

The two detectives face go pale to this revelation as Amber remains looking at her hands. Detective Santiago writes in his notepad, Amber feeling his nervousness vibe.

Amber Strong: You're scared of him.

Detective Adrian Santiago: Me? Nah. He doesn't scare me. Not in the slightest, Ms. Strong.

Amber Strong: Your heart is beating faster than normal, you're sweating profusely and your mind is racing.

Detective Perez is startled by this as she looks over at Adrian, who is indeed sweating profusely. He excuses himself and leaves the room, leaving Amber with Detective Perez.

Detective Jessica Perez: What else can you tell us about Mark Nelson?

Amber Strong: Other than he is a cold-blooded serial killer that drains the life forces out of innocent women every day while you all sit here and do nothing? You all have known for the longest time he was the one and did nothing. Twenty women! Twenty families left with more questions than answers.

Detective Jessica Perez: Ms. Strong -

Amber Strong: Save it, detective. You know, it's a good thing you don't do nothing. I have been the only one to test him and actually give him something to fear. But I can't fight him alone, detective. Go with what that badge truly stands for, protect this city and stop him before more people are killed.

Standing from her chair, she walks to the window as Detective Perez goes for her gun but decides to let her leave. Opening the window, Amber steps out before giving a final glance at Detective Perez then takes flight.
