Su Yu slowly turned his head to look at the white-haired girl leaning against the wall.

Kiana Kaslana's face appeared a cold, pale white under the dim stairwell lights. Rainwater was still dripping from the hem of her white jacket, and faint glimmers of light flickered indistinctly at the seams of the tight-fitting armor underneath.

That was definitely not a detail a cosplay outfit could achieve. It looked like... real Valkyrie armor.

"You said... you can see me?"

Su Yu deliberately slowed his tone, but his brain was racing wildly.

He recalled his confusion when browsing his phone earlier. Searching for "Honkai" only brought up strange obscure websites, with absolutely no information on any games or anime. The game "Honkai Impact 3rd" simply did not exist in this world.

Yet, the light screen popping up before his eyes like a virus was just like the seven aunts and eight heavy-set cousins urging him to get married during the Lunar New Year in his past life... constantly urging him to interact with the girl before him.

The answer was obvious.

The "Kiana" before him was not a cosplayer.

She was the real... Kiana Kaslana.

And judging by this jacket, this was clearly Kiana from the Arc City period!

The white-haired girl suddenly straightened her body, rainwater dripping from the tips of her hair onto the floor.

She reached out a hand, seemingly wanting to touch Su Yu, but stopped in mid-air. A faint trace of light ignited in her dull eyes.

Buzz—

The phone in his pocket vibrated, shattering the eerie silence of the stairwell.

The white-haired girl's eyes trembled violently, and she instantly retracted her hand.

As if enduring some immense pain, she bit down on her pale lip.

"No... it's nothing, don't come near me..."

Su Yu noticed a cut on her arm that was seeping blood...

Just as he was about to speak, the girl covered her wound, turned around, and ran, quickly disappearing into the wind and rain.

"Mi~"

A cat's meow came from the doorway. Chongchong was rolling around exposing her belly, her heterochromatic eyes round and bright.

This white cat named Chongchong had been forcefully foisted upon him by a friend, who claimed he saw her being attacked by a group of wild cats on the road and found it too pitiful.

So, he kidnapped—replaced purchasing with adoption—her.

The result was unexpectedly a peerless good cat, aside from being a bit too clingy.

The phone vibrated again, as if urging him.

Su Yu took out his phone; green message bubbles kept popping up with new notifications.

[Kevin: "Yu, I've already bought the tickets. The 12th, be there or be square?"]

Kevin Kaslana.

To Su Yu, whether in his past life or his current one, this name was no stranger.

In the game, he was the strongest Fusion Warrior of the Previous Era, the Savior bearing the inscription of [Deliverance]...

But the current him was nothing more than a diligent office worker. Just a few days ago, he was complaining to Su Yu about working too much overtime, leaving him no time to meet with Mei.

Su Yu didn't know if he had triggered some sort of compensation bureau in this life, but ever since entering Senba Academy, he had become best buddies with Kevin and Su.

Su had aspirations in medicine and went to the Mu Continent to study, while Kevin and Su Yu attended St. Freya Comprehensive University together.

After graduation, the two stayed in the same city. Kevin punched the clock at work every day, while Su Yu muddled his way into becoming an internet streamer.

He didn't have much traffic, but making ends meet wasn't a problem.

["OK."]

After replying with a "Miss Pink Elf thumbs-up" sticker, Su Yu was originally imagining how he would give Kevin—who he hadn't seen in a while—a surprise performance when the time came.

For example, telling him a lame joke about why the "Shenzhou Tablet" has a good temper—because she has no chest.

But his gaze turned to the side of his door. The spot where the white-haired girl had stood was a wet patch; clearly, she had stayed there for a long time.

After a brief hesitation, Su Yu typed a message and clicked send.

[Su Yu: If there was a girl at your doorstep, soaked through and injured, who looked exactly like your ideal type, what would you do?]

[Kevin: ? What is this? Did you switch careers to writing novels?]

[Su Yu: No, just wanted to hear your opinion.]

[Kevin: If it were Su, he'd definitely say 'Go get your brain checked first, you're 80% likely crazy from wanting to date'...]

[Kevin: What's actually going on?]

[Su Yu: Let me ask a different way.]

[Su Yu: Suppose you found a girl at your doorstep, carrying wounds on her body, possibly being chased by someone? Would you extend a helping hand to her?]

[Su Yu: Tropes of heroes saving beauties only exist in novels. As an ordinary person with absolutely no special abilities...]

[Su Yu: Would you choose to play the hero for a moment to save the beauty, only for the pursuer to stab you straight to death, resulting in two lost lives?]

[Su Yu: Or would you pretend you didn't see anything, turn around and leave, and preserve your daily life?]

Excessive curiosity is only ever the culprit that kills the cat; reckless and arbitrary decisions can often become the ringleaders that steal away one's daily peace...

As someone who had already died once, Su Yu naturally knew how precious life was.

But he already had the answer in his heart.

[Kevin: ?]

[Kevin: You know my answer.]

Yeah.

Of course Su Yu knew. Even if this was just a slice-of-life world, the integrity and courage branded into the name "Kevin Kaslana" destined him to make a certain choice.

A person's character is a person's fate—he couldn't help but recall that saying.

[Su Yu: Looks like we think the same.]

After sending the message, Su Yu stuffed the phone back into his pocket. He grabbed another umbrella from the room and rubbed Chongchong's head.

"I'll be right back. Be a good girl and stay here."

He closed the apartment door. As it shut, the chill of the rain rushed over him.

[System: Please bind the Valkyrie, Host, to carry forward the will of "Honkai Impact 3rd" together and start your peak life!]

The light screen continued to flicker, but Su Yu chose to close it.

It wasn't to unlock some so-called system after binding.

Reaching the "peak of life" or whatever wasn't some achievement Su Yu felt compelled to complete in his second life.

It was simply following a person's instincts and bottom line; he could not sit idly by and watch a girl who looked like an injured stray cat.

Some might view this as meddling in others' business. Some might feel this is a reckless choice that could very likely drag him into some kind of danger.

But Su Yu didn't care.

At this moment, the heart still beating in his chest thumped steadily, as if reminding him that this was the proof of being born human, of being born as "Su Yu."

He took a deep breath and charged into the rain in the direction the girl had run.
