BWDC:SDDK Chapter 34: What Item is This Expensive? DC Earth?

Even though it was already quite late by the time the violent incident at the villa was resolved, Ren Ichimonji and the others had no intention of staying overnight at the Nagamoto Group's villa—especially Ren himself.

————He felt that Nagamoto Dosan's second daughter, Nagamoto Yasue, seemed a bit mentally unstable as well.

Ren suspected that if he stayed the night, Nagamoto Yasue might perform a midnight "ghost climbing through the window to stab people" routine. Danger was secondary; the main point was that he didn't want Nagamoto Dosan to spend his sixtieth birthday alone.

"Well then, Brother Batman, see you next time!"

Hattori Heiji turned his cap back around, waving goodbye to Ren with a grin. As a hospitable Osaka native, he didn't forget to urge:

"You have to come to Osaka to play next time! When you do, I'll pick you guys up in the police station's newest car for a joyride!"

After several farewells, Hattori Heiji finally got into the Osaka Police Department car and drove away from the villa. Watching the car fade into the distance, Ren took a sip of his coffee, thinking that Hattori Heiji was indeed thoughtful.

Then, just as he turned around to catch a ride with Mouri Kogoro, he suddenly snapped his head back, feeling that something wasn't quite right————

Wait? The police station's newest car, not his family's newest car?

Isn't that a police car? Are you trying to create the first Batman in history to be paraded through the streets in a squad car?

Ren's face darkened. If Hattori Heiji hadn't already vanished from sight, Ren would have definitely given him a "big surprise"!

"Mr. Ren Ichimonji, over here, over here!"

Mouri Ran's voice rang out. She was waving toward him, and Ren immediately responded, taking a few steps to hop into the backseat, just like when they arrived.

Conan, already in the car, seemed to still be pondering how Ren had managed to get his hands on Nagamoto Hidemitsu's suicide note. He was so deeply immersed in his "art of thinking" that he didn't even react when Ren got in with a cup of coffee.

Ignoring the "God of Death" elementary student beside him, Ren glanced at his wristwatch to check the time. It was 11:50 PM. In ten minutes, his system mall would refresh.

Although it would likely refresh with some special items he couldn't afford, looking was free. The most "heavyweight" item previously was the Brother Eye system designed by Batman. He wondered what would show up this time.

In the driver's seat, Mouri Kogoro reminded them once again to fasten their seatbelts before starting the return journey. His mood was actually quite good. Even though the commission was just an excuse Nagamoto Dosan used to lure him there, it didn't matter. What mattered was that Nagamoto Dosan had given him double the original commission fee. His "invincible money power" had wiped away any lingering dissatisfaction!

The car started and headed toward the downtown area of Tokyo. Ren took a sip of coffee, waiting calmly for the special effects of the coffee to refresh along with the system mall.

Ten, nine, eight...

As the system-appointed Batman of Beika Town, Ren believed there was nothing left in this world that could shock him.

Until he saw the items refreshed in the system mall this time.

"Cough, cough, cough, cough..."

Choking on his coffee, Ren looked at the price of today's special item in disbelief.

Ones, tens, hundreds, thousands, ten thousands, hundred thousands, millions, ten millions, hundreds of millions...

Brother, did you package the entire DC Earth over here or what? What kind of thing is this expensive?

Item Name: Metron's Mobius Chair

Price: 1 Billion Points

Note: It is rumored that anyone who sits on the Mobius Chair gains omniscience; nothing in the universe can be hidden from its master. However... this doesn't stop the master from constantly being pulled off the chair.

Note 2: In the Darkseid War storyline, Batman once became the new owner of the Mobius Chair.

Ren: ?

The system wasn't even pretending anymore. You could argue that the Brother Eye system was developed by Batman, but Batman only used the Mobius Chair once from start to finish. How does this count as "Batman's equipment"?

Given enough time, would he start seeing the Hellbat Armor, Yellow Lantern Rings, and all sorts of supernatural gear? Using this equipment against Beika Town criminals... wouldn't that be a bit too brutal?

Ren grumbled internally. These supernatural items could likely only be obtained by completing special missions—that was how his coffee cup came about. If he had to rely on earning points from public security missions, he wouldn't know what year it would be before he saved enough.

The system did have a way to quickly gain massive amounts of points, though: participating in "Major Events."

What qualified as a Major Event? It had to be at least on the level of a global crisis or Superman's death. Forget Beika Town; even the entire Conan universe couldn't spawn a Major Event of that caliber. Even if he didn't plan to slack off, there were no channels to earn points that way.

————It wasn't like he would wake up one day to find a Batman wearing a spiked cowl and laughing like the Joker descending from the sky, drafting him into the Dark Knights to invade the DC Multiverse, right?

"I've got it! Ren, you picked the lock to Nagamoto Hidemitsu's room, didn't you?"

Conan's voice suddenly broke the silence.

Ren: ?

That topic was over. Even for a Martian, bringing it up again would be a bit impolite. Careful, or I'll scare you with my lighter flame!

His train of thought interrupted, Ren reached out and fiercely ruffled Conan's hair. The "youngest Robin" of the Beika Batman didn't seem used to Batman's "kindness" yet; as soon as Ren's hand touched him, Conan went into "Spinosaurus mode," looking ready to hiss on the spot.

However, because Mouri Ran and Mouri Kogoro were both in the car, Conan ultimately chose to swallow his pride.

Conan, endure! Just wait until I catch you, you're not getting any "good juice" then!

Ignoring the pouting Conan, Ren's gaze quickly swept over the other two special items in the system mall. Compared to a heavyweight item like the Mobius Chair, the remaining two seemed harmless.

One was a Bat-Credit Card from the famous disaster movie Batman & Robin. Theoretically, this card was quite useful because it was directly linked to the Wayne Enterprises account. The awkward part, however, was that Wayne Enterprises didn't exist in this world. Therefore, the only point of getting it would be as a souvenir.

Ren skipped it. You could get as many souvenirs as you wanted from a wholesale market; why waste points?

The next item, however, made his eyes light up.

Item Name: Special-Use Microcomputer

Price: 100 Points

Note: The property of a certain wheelchair-bound heroine who prefers to remain anonymous.

Note 2: It is said that using this computer to connect to a network can temporarily grant the user computer skills and a physical condition equivalent to Oracle!

————Oracle.

The codename of the first Batgirl, Barbara Gordon, after she became paraplegic. As the information specialist of the Bat-family, Oracle could easily hack into the databases of various secret organizations and access any data needed.

Getting supernatural computer skills that were "off the charts" for the Conan world for only 100 points was undoubtedly a bargain. The only problem was...

What do you mean by "temporarily grant the user computer skills AND a physical condition equivalent to Oracle"?

Can I skip the latter part and just take the computer skills?

Ren sighed and then muttered, "Even if I'm in a wheelchair, I can still annihilate the enemy forces!"

Conan: ?

Why are you getting in a wheelchair now?
