Chapter 57 - Chapter 57 We Absolutely Can’t Let This Fat Guy Off

'Brox, isn't he the owner of this tomb?'

Alex looked at the completely empty stone coffin, 'Too bad I don't know where that guy is.'

Otherwise, as long as he was still alive, he could probably be used to grind some talent proficiency.

'An elder of the immortals should be stronger than those Black Robes, right?'

At this moment, Professor Nick let out a small sound of surprise. He studied some of the text and said, "This information seems to be a set of coordinates."

"Mm! Down here there's the name 'Beloved friend Oma Mido'. It should be the location of another elder's tomb."

Alex was immediately interested.

'These immortals are like a game's 'side quests', something I can use to grind talent proficiency and unlock new shop items.'

He looked at the professor, "Can you confirm the location?"

"Not for now," Professor Nick took out a notebook and copied down the text, "I need to go back and decode it, and also look up some references. It might take some time."

Alex thought for a moment and asked the professor, "Do you have a phone?"

A moment later, Alex left his phone number on the professor's phone, "If you discover anything, be sure to tell me."

Professor Nick said in surprise, "I didn't expect you to be so interested in archaeology."

"No problem. If there's any discovery, I'll have Amy contact you."

———

After settling this matter, Alex sent the professor out, then returned to New York himself.

By the time he got back to the Seven Tower, it was already night.

Alex walked into the command hall and was surprised to see that Maeve, Black Noir, Starlight, and the others were all there.

Ashley seemed to be talking to them about something. When they saw Alex come in, they all started clapping.

Alex spread his hands and smiled, "Did something good happen?"

Ashley walked over, her face full of smiles, excited and thrilled as she said, "Homelander, you don't know yet, do you?"

"The Security Bureau has withdrawn the charges and apologized to you on television."

"They said they failed to consider things properly, didn't investigate the entire matter carefully, and they solemnly apologized to you for harming your reputation."

Alex was quite surprised, "They actually did that?"

Ashley burst out laughing, "See, I knew he'd say that!"

Alex was completely confused.

Ashley said excitedly, "You deliberately didn't attend the hearing today because you already had victory in hand, right?"

"You had everything planned out before launching your counterattack."

"Do you know? When everyone thought you were an arrogant madman, you had someone release that video and let it spread wildly online."

"In the end, you left the Security Bureau with nowhere to hide. This desperate counterattack was just too dramatic!"

"No wonder you weren't worried at all. No wonder you didn't attend the hearing. No wonder you didn't explain anything!"

"Because you had already arranged everything in advance and knew from the start that this would be the outcome!"

Maeve shook her head and laughed, "But you should have told us first. That way everyone wouldn't have been so anxious."

"No, Queen Maeve," Ashley said excitedly, "Not telling us was also part of Homelander's plan!"

"Because only then would our reactions be completely genuine."

"The Security Bureau wouldn't suspect anything, and the final counterattack could truly work!"

"Am I right, Homelander?"

'All I can say is, you're really good at filling in the blanks.'

Alex more or less figured out what had happened.

It seemed that someone had released a certain video today in strong support of him, and that video had been very 'persuasive'.

As a result, the Security Bureau had no choice but to withdraw the charges and publicly apologize to him.

Alex didn't explain anything, didn't respond. He just said, "Ashley, have someone prepare a dinner and send it to my room."

Seeing that he was about to leave, Ashley said in surprise, "Homelander, you're not going to say a few words to everyone?"

"Not today," Alex walked toward the door.

From behind, Ashley asked again, "Then when will we announce to the public that the Seven are resuming normal operations?"

Alex ignored her and went back to his room.

.

.

.

A short while later, his dinner arrived.

Pushing the dining cart, the chef wearing a tall hat closed the door. His body then shifted and changed, turning into a greasy faced fat man.

The Shapeshifter.

"Good evening, Homelander," The Shapeshifter said carefully.

Alex glanced at the food on the cart and arranged it on the table himself.

He cut off a small piece of pan fried fish and put it into his mouth. After chewing and swallowing, he wiped his mouth with a napkin and then said, "Any discoveries?"

"Yes."

The Shapeshifter took out his phone, opened a video, and held it up in front of Alex.

In the video, Alex saw Senator Hope and Deputy Director Hansen of the Security Bureau.

["No wonder you strongly pushed to take Homelander to the Supreme Court. So from the very beginning, Senator Hope already had victory in hand."]

Hearing this line, Alex smiled, nodded, and said, "You did very well."

"What reward do you want?"

The Shapeshifter probed cautiously, "I have some bad records in Vought's hands. I was wondering if you could help me destroy them?"

Alex glanced at him, "Tomorrow I'll go to the Crime Analysis Department."

"Thank you very much," Then the Shapeshifter transformed back into the chef and pushed the empty dining cart out.

———

The next morning, when Alex arrived at the Crime Analysis Department and saw Anika, the girl was drinking an energy drink.

'Drinking that kind of thing early in the morning, does she want to die?'

Out of concern for his personal investigator, Alex scanned the girl's body and found that she was still fairly healthy. Only then did he clear his throat lightly.

"Boss, when did you get here?"

Anika quickly stood up, then looked at the drink in her hand and tried asking, "Want a sip?"

"No thanks."

Alex placed the Shapeshifter's phone on the desk, opened the video of the senator, and smiled, "I was thinking, maybe you have a way to make this something everyone on the street knows about?"

After watching just a short part, Anika said excitedly, "So it was this fat guy pulling strings. Boss, do you know how worried I was about you?"

"We absolutely can't let this fat guy off!"

Then the girl looked troubled, "But when it comes to online spread, I'm not very good at that."

"But I know a friend. He can make this video a trending topic online today."

"However, this needs your approval, because it will involve some legal issues."

Alex patted her on the shoulder, "Go all out."

Anika immediately grabbed the phone, stuffed it into her handbag, and ran out in a flash.

Alex smiled. He returned to the command hall, remembering that he still had a 'Multivariate Treasure Chest' he hadn't opened yet.

So he took it out.

A lottery box appeared in Alex's hands. He reached inside. Just like last time, the box wasn't big, yet his hand couldn't touch the limits of the space inside.

When it felt like he had grabbed something, he pulled his hand out, drawing out a mass of soft light.

That light first expanded, then contracted, and finally disappeared. In Alex's hand, there was now a newspaper.
