Chapter 16 - Tit for Tat

He was launched through the air, the weight of the punch sending him crashing through the treeline.

However, he was only slightly injured, managing to block the strike on a now heavily bruised forearm.

He landed and skidded for a moment before dashing back, clearing the treeline, and launching toward the fray.

however he stopped to gather his surroundings.

One of his group was shouting something at him.

He quickly closed in on him. The red-haired young man was panting in clear exhaustion from the drawn-out fight with the brute. and hastily repeated what he had been shouting.

"Why didn't you use internal energy? Fool!?"

Sacril had no idea what he was talking about and just raised an eyebrow before their conversation was unceremoniously interrupted by a blast of earth.

The woman whom he had previously sent flying had returned, although now clearly damaged from the blow he had dealt her.

She had both hands on the ground and was causing the earth to rise up, which the giant was throwing at them in rapid succession.

The young man beside him cursed and clapped his hands together, and a flash of light shot out.

The trajectory of the rocks suddenly changed, and they flew away from them as if the big man had simply missed.

Sacril did not wait to ask what happened, instead rushing the enemy as fast as he could.

The girl grimaced and, with enormous effort, created a wave of earth that knocked him off course, and he veered off towards the giant as he tried to balance himself.

The goliath was about to land a blow on him, but a clap followed by a flash of light caused his strike to miss Sacril by just a few centimeters.

However, the massive man's momentum meant the effect of Sacrils' own attack was multiplied.

With his left hand, he swung and connected to the man's now unprotected chin. The force was astonishing, and the man nearly fell over before catching himself and quickly wobbling away.

Sacril jumped at the opportunity and pursued the dizzy giant.

A wall of earth shot out in front of him and tipped over. He was heading forward and had no time to change direction, and so was forced to catch and attempt to lift the mass of falling earth.

This, of course immobolized him for the time being, and he strained wildly.

Outside, the big man was almost fully recovered. The girl was busy in hand-to-hand combat with the Red haired young man, who had an ability of something to do with light, and the big man was dizzy defending himself from the strikes of the third member of their group, who was a young girl holding a thick tree branch.

And the Raven haired Young man who had been handling himself against two opponents was...

Sacril panicked, not seeing him anywhere for a few moments.

Until the earth manipulator was hit in the stomach and collapsed, before disappearing, evidently being teleported away after being unable to continue.

He stood for a moment before blitzing at the large man and beginning to exchange blows with him.

Sacril felt the earth that was pinning him begin to soften, as the one controlling it was now gone; it soon fell down off his shoulders, and he quickly rushed out.

But it was already over.

The raven-haired young man was even more proficient than he had thought, defeating the giant quickly and devastatingly.

They regrouped tiredly, not speaking for a few moments before the red-haired young man seemed to remember something and turned to him indignantly.

"How do you not know how to use internal energy!? Wait... scratch that! How are you so damn strong without it!?"

Sacril scratched his head sheepishly and mumbled.

"Uh... Just athletic, I guess?.."

The red-haired young man looked unconvinced and walked ahead of the group with an annoyed expression on his face.

The raven-haired man appeared to try to evaluate him before doing much the same.

The girl who was left standing beside him looked at him and sighed before finally talking for the first time.

"Hey, so you aren't like, one of these Scion dogs, are you?"

He looked back with a confused expression.

"I have no idea what that even means."

She blinked and smiled slightly.

"It's better that way, I'm not interested in discussing it, just know those guys look down on you, and they aren't worth giving your name to, just the same as they won't give you theirs, I'll tell you mine though, names Eira."

The girl had short hair that was pale and tinted a light blue. He nodded and hurried to reply.

"Oh, thanks for telling me, and the names Sacril."

He wasn't sure about all her talk, but it had explained a lot; he had felt a little out of place among the other two.

Though that being said, they didn't seem to appreciate each other's company much either, opting to walk a good distance apart, though much further away from the pair of him and Eira.

He sighed and resigned himself to not knowing anything more, and just decided to keep walking for now.
