Chapter 1 - WHISPERS OF BECOMING

I watched as the sun took it's time to come to life, ever so slowly driving away the darkness that had covered the sky. Birds chirping in the far distance announcing the arrival of a new day. The streets, the trees, everything seemed so alive unlike I …"Isa"… I wondered if my life could get any worse. Orphaned at 14 years old, stripped of all privileges and forced to fend for myself after I so helplessly watched my parents take their last breaths in a rather tragic accident …"Isa"… My mom always knew what I needed at what time or what choice I had to make. She was tall and slender, with cropped brown hair and green eyes. I remember she was such a joyful spirit and carried her happiness in every note she sang…"Isa"… Her and my dad crossed paths at a party where my dad was to perform. Unfortunately, the singer of the band had failed to make it leaving my dad in an ever so desperate position. My mom happened to notice and she offered to help. My dad on the other end was a fun kind of guy, always in trouble, such a pain but never failed to put a smile on mom's face. looking back on the memories and short time I got with them. I can gladly count that as the best time in my life…"Isa"… It is rather sad how life took a complete flip when my aunt took me in after their death. (let's out a shaky breath) Now, my head drowsy, my brain weary , I pondered whether I had made a wise decision by choosing to marry a stranger. In my defense, it is rather a win-win situation. My aunts gets the business deal and i escape the clutches of her rath. Yes, it is risky, what if it is from fire to fire but a girl has to try. The Collin's company will form a partnership with the Michelson's through this wedding..."Isa"… …."Isabella Michelson"...

The call jolted me out of my thoughts and zoomed me back into the little girl that stood before me. "yes," I responded. "I have been calling you for a long time now" "Am sorry, I wasn't paying attention, you were saying," Immy is a small, pretty nine year old with warm brown eyes she'd inherited from her father and short blonde hair her mother kept neatly trimmed. Petite and delicate, she already carried the promise of a great beauty- but it was her gentle, radiant spirit that made her truly unforgettable. "Isabella, are you listening" she said while waving her small hand in front of my face bringing me back to earth, "oh yes sorry, you were saying," "you mean I have been talking and you were not listening at all?" "Am sorry baby what do you need if I may ask" "anyway mom is calling you downstairs ooh! and get ready, hurry! "Okay, be down in an hour," "okay!" after the conversation, she ran out and left ever so happily. The moment she closed the door behind her, my eyes shot to my wedding dress which was beautifully laid on my bed. It is a strapless body hugging dress at the top and round at the bottom, forming a gorgeous mermaid shape. A simple beautiful necklace, gifted to me by my mom on the night she died, and some nude high heeled silver shoes placed besides it.

I took a quick shower, I did my makeup and unlike my usual comfortable look, i settled for wavy curls in my hair and letting it down for a change. I placed my tiara like hair holder pinned with my veil on it on my head. Satisfied with the look, i took one deep breath and left the room. Rushing down the stairs, I'm suddenly stopped by an ever so familiar figure. My aunt stood before me with a death stare ready to lash at me but instead she barks "Isabella," something that makes me slightly jump backwards ready to defend myself from what's coming, "yes, Miss. Elizabeth" "What took you so long don't you know my life and career lays in your hands " "sorry miss, Elizabeth," one rule to survive, look down, stay still and comply. She simply nodded and harshly responded, "Fine then, let's be on our way before we waste any more time," Tall, green-eyed, and dangerously captivating, she hid her greed and selfish heart behind short blonde hair and a flawless smile.

Tears threatening to spill, I composed myself and made slow but steady steps down the aisle. I wondered if my mom would be happy with this decision well of course she wouldn't I mean I have never even talked to the guy let alone see him. I mentally laughed at myself for I only knew he is a very young rich man betrothed to one of the girls from the Collin's family. On reaching the altar, I slowly raised my eyes from the ground and what met my eyes was far from what I expected. He is cladded in a tuxedo that hugged his broad figure perfectly_ exposing his rather large muscles. Inside it is a white shirt slightly peeping out and I couldn't help but notice that he had left three buttons untied exposing his well built chest that starred right back at me. Speaking of staring, why I'm I staring. (Awkwardly clears throat)

Mr. Sam hands me to him as my step in dad.

The priest finally announced us husband and wife and we proceeded to the reception. Whilst we watched everyone enjoy themselves, the room full of chatter and laughter, I couldn't help but notice that my husband oddly does not smile. Not once has he let a smile cross his face even when he engaged with his mates. He was simply void of all emotions, well can i blame him, he probably didn't want this marriage either. Him aside, a chocolate cake is served and I immediately dive into mine while he just looked at me with that sarcastic look that said, "it must be nice," which I replied with a simple shrug. The MC called out to us to have the first dance and so the dance floor was cleared for us. He had rounded the table and requested me to take his hand, with a simple, "shall we?" in an ever so deep sexy voice something that came as a shock to my ears because ever since we left the altar we had not locked eyes let alone speak to each other. I hesitantly placed my hand in his and we made our way to the dance floor. Once we reached, he swiftly grabbed my waist making me gasp and automatically land in his chest, he then started moving, making our bodies sway to the music. I bet we looked real. To be honest if I were not the one getting married, I would totally be convinced we are a couple in love. I give him credit for that, he must be a great actor.

As other couples joined, we immediately let go and moved back to our seats where the grave silence between us made it even more awkward. I decided to look around and for the first time I noticed every single detail around us. the room was luxuriously decorated you could mistake it for a royal wedding. Reporters filled the room... if seen from a far they came off as houseflies. An unplanned chuckle escaped my lips and of course my overly attentive husband sent an ever so scary death stare towards me causing me to swallow it immediately. After what felt like ages, the wedding finally ended and we said our goodbyes. Immy was still telling me how much she will miss me when we heard some three women that practically looked like dolls gossiping, "''she looks so cheap', one said 'I know, what was she thinking' another replied' I swear if it were me marrying that Greek God I would go all in,' the third one replied, ' by the way, have you heard'' what' the other two asked in unison, ''this wedding has been ranked the most luxurious so far, but look at the bride she looks…'' they all look at themselves and then as if something has hit them this say in unison ,''disgusting'' and they all giggled which shot a huge pang of pain to my heart and heavy tears threatened to pour. Mr. Sam tapped my shoulders bringing my attention back to them, he embraced me in a tight hug and told me everything is going to be fine and I shouldn't pay more attention to what they say in fact I should not be bothered at all, I am simply perfect the way I am. He, unlike my aunt fit a father figure ever so perfectly. sometimes i wondered how such a wonderful soul landed a hideous soul of a wife.

I looked back at Immy who stared right back , tears in her eyes, I hugged her tightly and told her," everything is going to be fine'' for only I knew the kind of loneliness she is to feel when I'm away. Her parents sadly don't have time for her I shot a glare towards miss. Elizabeth who only smirked and then felt lucky I finally get to live this woman. I sent Immy and Sam one last long look, then made my way to the shiny black limo where I found my gentleman of an annoyed husband already waiting with an opened backseat door gesturing me to make my way in by holding out his hand for me which I gladly took and made my way in, to be honest we put on quite a show. I smirked when my inner voice said, "In your face, bitches.'' He then shut the door and then made his way to his side and took a seat besides me. With that the driver started the engine and we hit the road.

Tension hung think in the air until I jolted when the car came to sudden halt, catching my breath, I let out "Hey, I still want to live, don't do those things" which caused the driver to sniffle a laughter since grumpy face was shooting him daggers. "Grumpy face, really" my subconscious scolded. "What….he's always wearing a grumpy face," I'm brought back to earth by a very angry Andrew firing the driver to which I replied, "And why would you do that?'' he just shot me a glare and stormed out of the car but not without barking a quick "get lost.' 'To the driver or should I say ex driver. I mouthed a quick I'm sorry and rushed to pick up with grumpy face's pace. We reached a grand door and which was automatically opened for us by some three people clad in black and white uniforms. Grumpy face angrily brushed past them his figure disappearing inside, whereas I on the other hand awkwardly stayed there in my wedding dress completely abandoned by my husband on our wedding night. "Please miss. Isabella, you may come in, this is your home now'' the elderly house help warmly told. I smiled back at her nice gesture and mouthed a simple thank you towards her which she replied with a smile.

I took my first step into the house, mesmerized by the sight before me. My mouth almost dropped to the floor when I went further inside, 'holy mother fucker this place is huge' I immediately touched my mouth when I realized I said that out loud, I turned back to see the other two house helps were fighting a laughter causing me to burst out laughing and shortly after they finally gave in and laughed to. I have a feeling am going to love this place. So I boldly walked up to them and crossed my hands on my chest something that immediately made them stop. To break the ice, i said, "What is funny you idiots" making them laugh harder. Our laughter finally seized and we proceeded to introductions. "The names are Zac and Zabrina and this is our mother, Evelyn" Zabrina introduced. The striking resemblance between the two immediately reported they are twins. It also turns out they are around my age. i smile crossed my face, i can finally make friends my age. Aunt Elizabeth barely let me leave the house.. went to an extent of home schooling me. So they both offered to show me around as we catch up but aunt Evelyn interrupted us worried they were familiarizing too much and too soon. To ease her mind i told her not to worry, they can be as free as they wish with me. She gave me a warm smile and turned to the twins," you both naughty kids will show miss Isabella around tomorrow-right now, you can clearly see it has been a long day on her side," they both fake pouted which and then said in unison, "Yes mom" I smiled and said, "Kindly call me, Bella," "Okay, miss Bella…" "Only Bella, please!" "okay Bella, Brie here is going to escort you to your room," I simply nodded and thanked them for the warm welcome. I said my goodnights and I was led to my room.

I wondered why a single man lived in such a mansion, the walk alone to my room encouraged a slightly long conversation of catching up between me and Brie. She finally announced, "your room is directly in front of Sir Michelson's room just in case of visitors it is easy for them to think you are sleeping in the same room" I could not help but acknowledge the door after our rooms to which she responded that it's a balcony. "Ooh! It was giving secret room. (we both chuckled) On her departure, I shut the door behind me- turning on the lights. Yet another jaw dropping sight, my eyes dilated at the scene before me. The bedroom opened wide and grand, wrapped in the rich royal pink that glowed softly against the walls like warm dusk light. A towering velvet headboard, deep blush trimmed in gold crowned the massive bed at center like a throne. Silk sheets shimmered under the crystal chandelier above, scattering tiny diamonds of light across the ceiling. Floor-length curtains cascaded from tall windows, their fabric thick and luxurious, brushing against polished floors that reflected every glow. Plush rugs cushioned each step, and mirrors edged in gold made the space feel endless, almost dreamlike. My feet eager, I ran to the side of the bed eager to sleep on it. I felt the fabric and felt truly relived. The air smelled faintly of roses and vanilla. everything whispered comfort power elegance. Beyond the bedroom doors, the walk-in closet felt like a private boutique, glowing in royal pink and brushed with gold. Crystal lights shimmered overhead, reflecting off tall mirrors and glass shelves lined with shoes and handbags. Dresses hung neatly on sleek racks and a velvet ottoman sat proudly at the center. Small, elegant and breath taking everything organized with such care including my personal items. A yawn escaped my lips reminding me it is about time I take a shower and sleep.
