Erin Lowell hesitated for just a few seconds. "It's not—"
Zane Jennings sat up and released her hand, a roguish smile playing on his lips. When it came to pursuing her, he didn't plan on beating around the bush. He liked to be quick and get straight to the point. "Erin Lowell," he said, "you need to understand something. Some things are impossible to run from."
Erin Lowell's heart jolted, and she froze.
He leaned back on the sofa, his posture casual and relaxed. That roguish look reappeared in his eyes. "This is the second time. Who was that guy?"
The first time, he hadn't asked. He'd felt they weren't close enough, that it wasn't his place. 'Since when did I get so forward with people I barely know?'
She didn't want to elaborate, so she kept it brief. "We have some bad blood from the past."
He could tell it was more than just "some bad blood," but since she was unwilling to elaborate, Zane Jennings didn't press the issue. His expression, however, clearly darkened.
