Although the old lady wasn't going shopping, she caught sight of the thick stack of ration tickets her daughter pulled out and immediately reached over to confiscate them.
"Why do these all look different from the tickets Xiao Wen gets?" The old lady couldn't read, but she could make out the pictures and could definitely tell the tickets weren't the same.
"Well, it's because they're for different regions. My school knows we students come from all over, so when they issued them, they exchanged our local tickets for military-issue ones. These can be used nationwide and have a longer shelf life," Yuan Si rattled off, repeating what Xiao Furen had taught her the previous night.
The night before, she had proudly shown Xiao Furen her haul from the past six months. Her original plan was to give the tickets to him, since her mother had to stay home and watch Little Niu and couldn't go out. As a result, Xiao Furen was the one who did all the shopping for meat, vegetables, and grain.
