Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: The Water Divination Test

Yuu stared at his palm, watching the newfound "Nen" wrap around it.

It made sense.

This energy had appeared out of nowhere, surging into his body just like the massive data dump that had assaulted his brain when he arrived. It was basically a "welcome gift" from the transport process.

You could call it a "cheat code"—a perk of being a transmigrator. Though, considering it only happened when he got isekai'd, it was a bit of a hassle to activate.

But he could feel that the changes weren't just skin deep. His entire biological structure had fundamentally shifted. It was as if his body, in response to the shock of crossing worlds, had forcibly evolved to comply with the local laws of physics.

He could now generate and release aura just as naturally as any native of this world.

"A moment ago, I could only 'see' it with the Six Eyes. Now, I can actually 'feel' the flow..."

Yuu closed his eyes, focusing inward. He guessed that the sudden surge of Nen had forcibly blasted open his "Aura Nodes." This allowed him to sense the energy fuzzily and even attempt to control the flow around him.

"It's a bit blurry, but the method for moving it is similar to Cursed Energy... actually, it's easier than I thought."

He tried pooling his Cursed Energy at his fingertips. The two forces—one black, one white—intertwined but didn't clash.

Instead, they were surprisingly compatible, blending together like ink swirling into milk without any rejection.

Yuu let out a sigh of relief.

"Good... the appearance of Nen hasn't messed up my precision with Cursed Energy."

After all, his biggest trump card was the Limitless Cursed Technique carved into his soul. If the Nen had acted like a cuckoo bird and pushed the Cursed Energy out, or ruined his control, he would have been in big trouble.

The Limitless technique allowed him to manipulate matter at the atomic level and dominate space itself. Gravity, repulsion, the Infinity barrier—all of it required microscopically precise manipulation of Cursed Energy.

Sure, Nen had infinite potential. But in Yuu's opinion, trying to develop a Nen ability that surpassed the physics-breaking power of the Limitless technique would be a tall order.

"Still, since I've awakened it, I need to figure out my Affinity."

Yuu glanced discreetly at Hisoka. The magician was still absorbed in his card tower, seemingly ignoring the world.

Yuu knew better. With Hisoka's level of mastery, there was no way he missed the fluctuation of aura Yuu had just caused. The fact that he didn't react meant he just didn't consider it worth his time yet.

---

Yuu stood up and headed for the cabin door.

As he walked, he formulated a plan: find a nice crew member, beg for a cup of water, and find a quiet spot to test his Nen category.

---

Five minutes later.

Yuu didn't find the Captain. He ran into a friendly young deckhand who explained that the Captain was currently busy wrestling with the ship's wheel.

Which made sense. In these terrifying waves, only the old Captain had the skill to keep them afloat. If anyone else took the wheel, they'd likely capsize in seconds.

And if the ship went down, even Yuu would be in trouble.

Currently, his mastery of the Limitless only allowed for attraction, hovering, and short-range teleportation. The technique drained a massive amount of mental energy. Until he learned the Reverse Cursed Technique to keep his brain fresh, he couldn't keep the Limitless active 24/7.

Stranded in the middle of the ocean, he could keep himself from drowning for a while, but that was about it.

---

Fortunately, the nice deckhand fetched him a glass of water.

After a quick thank you, Yuu didn't return to the main cabin. Instead, glass in hand, he slipped into the ship's restroom.

Ignoring the smell, he thought, At least no one will bother me in here.

He placed the cup on the toilet lid. Since he didn't have a leaf—the traditional tool—he plucked a loose thread from his cuff and floated it gently on the water's surface.

Water Divination.

It was the most common method in Hunter x Hunter to determine a user's Nen category. You fill a cup with water, float a light object (usually a leaf) on top, and inject your Ren (aura) into the glass. The resulting change reveals your type:

 Enhancer: Water volume increases.

Transmuter: The taste of the water changes.

Emitter: The color of the water changes.

Conjurer: Impurities appear in the water.

Manipulator: The leaf (or object) moves.

Specialist: Any other change not listed above.

The conditions were terrible. The cup wasn't full, there was no leaf, and the water was sloshing violently with the rocking of the ship.

But this was the best Yuu could do.

"Even with this mess, I should be able to rule some things out."

Enhancement, Conjuration, and Specialization usually caused very visible physical phenomena. If he was lucky, he'd fall into one of those.

"I wonder what kind of combo I can make between Nen and my Cursed Technique... this is actually getting exciting."

Clearing his mind, Yuu cupped his hands around the glass. He focused, recalling the sensation from earlier, and channeled the aura from his body.

He felt the flow immediately. He guided the aura into his palms, letting it seep into the water.

One minute passed.

The water continued to slosh around, but nothing looked different.

"No reaction..."

Yuu frowned. He lifted the cup to eye level, squinting at it while continuing to pour his aura into the liquid. Sometimes, if the amount of aura is too low, the reaction is too subtle to see.

The color hadn't changed, so he ruled out Emitter.

He pushed harder, flaring the aura around his hands. To help stabilize things, he used a tiny amount of Blue—the attractive force of the Limitless—to pin the water against the glass walls so he could see better.

Suddenly, tiny black specks, like fine sand, began to materialize in the water.

Within a few minutes, they clumped together to form a black sphere about the size of a pupil.

Impurities?

"Looks like the mark of a Conjurer..."

Yuu extended a finger and used Blue to pull the sunken black ball out of the water, suspending it in the air above his palm.

He studied it for a moment before pinching it between his fingers. It felt like ordinary packed sand; with a light squeeze, it crumbled back into dust and fell to the floor.

"So... Conjuration it is."

Yuu felt satisfied.

"Usually, Specialists are the ones breaking the rules of physics, but Conjurers have some of the wildest potential, too. Guys like Knov with his 'Hide and Seek' mansion or Kite's 'Crazy Slots.' It's a category with a high skill ceiling."

Now that he knew his type, he could start brainstorming an ability that suited him.

Before leaving the bathroom, Yuu leaned down and sniffed the cup. There was a faint, sweet scent.

He took a small sip. The water definitely tasted sweet.

"That's the sign of a Transmuter."

Since the sweetness was faint, Yuu guessed his natural affinity lay somewhere between Conjuration and Transmutation, likely leaning heavily toward Conjuration.
