Chapter 23 - Twenty Years of Buried Resentment

"I never thought I would say this, Richard. But sometimes I regret having a son like you."

Mr. Charlie's voice was not loud, but it carried a very deep meaning. He had never been this disappointed before, even though he knew he had a son who could not be relied on.

"Are you insane? You said all of that to Amara, that's the same as betraying your own father, Richard. Have you ever been useful to me even once?"

"That statement makes it sound like I've never done anything. But all this time, the fact is I've always been the best tool for your goals, haven't I?"

Richard's eyes turned toward his father. Staring at the man who had always been his role model, and he had never disobeyed Mr. Charlie's orders.

Even if it harmed him, even if it made no sense.

"I have always been your tool to get close to Amara, until we succeeded in getting married, you waited with a bigger plan."
