Chapter 1 - First sight first try

"I should really find my purpose, but it's not like I'm competent enough to become that ideal," Lucius Orbinus thought to himself while lying in bed.

Lucius had always wanted to be a famous scientist or historian, but he believed he didn't have any mental or physical skills to be of use.

"I'm just among the average, the ones that exist just to be forgotten," Lucius thought to himself.

Holding a book in his arms that he bought from the recent book party held at his college, he placed it on top of a bunch of books that sat right next to his bed.

Lucius closed his eyes and fell into a deep sleep with a fancy-looking pencil in his hand, gifted by one of his friends at school.

Lucius woke up and opened his eyes to see clouds and a blue sky, feeling the breeze on his skin.

He stood up, confused as to why he was somewhere other than his house. He feared the worst.

"Was I kidnapped and then thrown out by someone?" thought Lucius.

Before Lucius could gather his thoughts, he heard a loud growl from the west side of the forest and saw what appeared to be a giant chimera.

"Am I in a fantasy world? I've heard of isekai before, but I never thought this would happen for real. Or am I on drugs, or am I dreaming? Whatever it is, I probably don't have much magic, nor do I know how it works. Right now, it's best I just survive, whether this is real or not," Lucius thought to himself.

He ran in the opposite direction, but the chimera roared loudly, sending a mystical shockwave in his direction before slamming him into a tree very hard, bruising his back and legs to the point where it was very hard to get up.

"Shit… is this where I die? All that I lived for… I guess so," Lucius said with an unnatural sense of relief—a sense of relief that haunted him, one he never wanted to have but couldn't help feeling.

"I don't know if I can… but should I, I have nothing else to do," said Lucius.

Thinking, visualizing, and concentrating to cast some kind of magic—

Silence.

He blinked.

Lucius found himself in a huge library. He walked down the halls, confused.

He noticed his body was back to normal with no damage.

"You lost?" said Sophia.

"Yes. What is this place, and why am I here?"

"This is the Empyrean of Written Reveries, a library that contains over 850 billion books with knowledge of magic, memories, entire life stories, ancient civilizations and histories, and secrets of other worlds and realms—even future books that have yet to be made. Although reading these books can cause them to change text during and after reading," explained Sophia.

"By the way, standing next to me can increase mental strain, so I would suggest you go back to your world," Sophia warned.

Lucius felt an impending sense of doom and started to breathe heavily, as if he were about to be killed, feeling himself about to pass out in the library. He asked Sophia one last question.

"Sophia, how did I get here, and how do I get out?" Lucius asked.

"You got here by sending your mind to this place, and if you want to leave, just say 'return,'" Sophia said.

"Return," Lucius said.

"Dang… well, goodbye then… Lucius Orbinus," Sophia muttered.

Lucius returned and felt his body still had its injuries before he heard footsteps.

"Elemental command: ground spikes," Lucius heard.

Five big, giant spikes protruded from the ground, piercing the chimera.

Forming an obsidian axe, the tribal woman said, "Who are you supposed to be?"

She noticed he did not have much mana—basically none at all—and started to question his competency.

"I am… Lucius Orbinus. A little help would be nice."

"Sister, he looks pathetic and weak, and judging based on his clothes, he is probably from the Kingdom of the Crownlands Union—those rich idiots," said a small girl next to her.

"Flaira, my new rules say to be nice to newcomers and welcome people from different places and backgrounds. Usually, people flee over to the land of the United Banners for a reason."

Looking over, Lucius saw the chimera break the spikes and run at the tribal woman. Before it could reach her, Lucius grabbed his pencil and, with all his conviction and determination, threw it very hard, aiming for its eye as the pain in his back hurt like hell.

The pencil stabbed the chimera in the eye as it screamed in pain. It started to shake in fear as a purple aura glowed from the pencil. The chimera slowly backed away, whimpering like a dog.

"These things are very persistent," said the tallest tribal woman.

She threw her obsidian axe at vanishing speeds at the chimera, finishing it off.

Having used all of his mana, Lucius passed out and was taken in by the tribal women to their village.

Lucius awakened inside the library again.

"This place again," Lucius said.

"Sophia is not here this time. Who is she? Wait—why do I automatically know her name? I need to find her, or at least a book on magic. But how am I supposed to find one out of 850 billion books?" Lucius screamed.

Looking over to his left, he found an interesting book called The Pale Sacrament Society.
