Chapter 1 - Finding My Way Home

Freedom and space are two important parts of any teenager's life. We crave it and when we get it, we retaliate That is exactly what Ramya did about a year ago when she decided to flee, from her home at the age of 14. Ramya's decision was not sudden It has a reason- her parents' constant nagging. Her mother had always interfered in her life. She had to know where Ramya had been all day, who she was with, what she did and so on. The nagging nature was so overwhelming that Ramya needed her approval for everything Her father didn't fare any better He was often nodding his head in agreement with whatever she said and Ramya hated it

She needed space but her mother refused to give it to her. One day, fed up of her mother's nagging, she thought that she should flee. She had about two thousand rupees, so hurriedly she put her things in a bag She left for school the next day but arrived at the bus station unsure of where she was heading. She decided to visit her ancestral village, which was a 100 kilometres away from Delhi. She had never ridden a local bus alone before but she got a ticket and ascended the vehicle slowly After three hours of journey, the bus reached its destination but Ramya could not recognise it. She had visited the village 2 months back and depended on her memory to go her grandparents' home.

She decided to look out for a friendly face to get some help. However, she found none. So, she sat down and started crying. Suddenly, an old gentleman came and sat next to her. After some time, he asked Ramya if she was okay and what the matter was. Ramya told him everything and the man advised her to return to her parents. He suggested that Ramya tell her parents how she feels and that they would listen to her because parents are their children's sole well-wishers. Ramya realised how reckless she had been in running away and decided to go back.

Soon, with the help of the gentleman, she returned home. When she reached her home, she found her parents were crying. They were surrounded by the police and the neighbours. When Ramya made her presence known, her mother ran to her and hugged her. Ramya also started crying and told everyone the matter. She, then, apologised and promised to never do it again.
