Chapter 45 - Chapter 45: Rudolf’s Sudden Arrival

Before she started cleaning the bathroom, Eternal Meteor sent Tokai Teio a message, asking her to grab some food from the cafeteria.

Otherwise, by the time Meteor finished cleaning and went herself, the food would probably be wiped out by those big-eater horse girls.

"Now comes the painful part—cleaning time… ugh, so disgusting—bleh!"

She tossed her phone onto her bed, then—like she was disarming a bomb—carefully cracked the bathroom door open a tiny bit.

Even so, the stench that burst out made her gag on the spot.

Should I be glad I already threw up everything earlier?

At least she hadn't vomited outside the bathroom—otherwise covering up the smell would've been impossible.

But once she opened the door fully, her face turned so pale it looked like she was about to become a living purple yam.

Yeah—celebrating was way too early. This is the beginning of misfortune.

Inside, the blood mixed with half-digested food looked like someone had pulverized every ingredient, pressure-cooked it for hours, then thickened it into a gluey sludge—complete with a sour, rancid, metallic stench.

Meteor immediately retched up stomach acid again.

Her dry heaving echoed in the bathroom.

And of course, X's laughter echoed in her head too.

When she finally forced herself to start cleaning, things got even worse:

No gloves.

Touching the slimy vomit with her bare hands—the sensation alone made her want to die.

And when she pulled her hand away, the stringy mucus stretched out in long strands.

She was suffering in silence…

…unaware that Rudolf had finished her work, started looking for her, and had already called Teio.

Rudolf Calls Teio

"Teio, have you seen Eternal Meteor? I need to talk to her."

"Uh… she's probably busy with something in the dorm? She asked me earlier to get her some food when I went to the cafeteria."

Rudolf shook her head after hearing that.

This child really doesn't eat properly…

Fine. She happened to be free at lunch today—she'd deliver it herself.

"I have time right now. I'll take Meteor's meal to her."

"Eh?! The President is going in person?!"

"Mhm."

"…O-okay. Then I'll hang up."

After the call ended, Teio stared at her phone in a daze.

After a long moment, she pressed her lips together, lowered her head, and walked quietly toward the cafeteria.

Before she even reached the entrance, she spotted President Rudolf hurrying out from inside.

Teio opened her mouth to call out—

But for some reason, no sound came.

In the end, she swallowed her words and could only watch Rudolf leave.

Back at the Dorm

After the unforgettable experience of cleaning vomit with bare hands, Meteor was almost finished.

"Hah… finally, it's mostly done…"

She wiped the thin sweat from her forehead with her forearm.

Everything that needed to be flushed was already in the toilet.

Now she just had to pour in some shampoo or something to get rid of the smell.

Just as her body finally relaxed—

Knock, knock.

Someone was knocking at the dorm door.

Meteor froze in place. Her breathing stopped.

Please don't be Rudolf. Please don't be Rudolf. Please don't be Rudolf…

But when you obsessively fear something happening, that usually means you know exactly how likely it is.

And in this dorm, aside from Rudolf, nobody would normally come.

Still, Meteor clung to hope—

Until that familiar voice arrived and sentenced her hope to death.

"Meteor, are you in there?"

I want to say I'm not, like in TV dramas, and she'll just go away…

Meteor desperately spun through options, even starting to drift into nonsense thoughts.

"Meteor? I'm coming in, okay?"

"Don't—! Uh, I-I'm here! I'm changing! I'm changing!"

"What happened?!"

Rudolf hadn't been worried at first—but hearing Meteor stammer like that made her panic.

Meteor had already been evaluated by a psychologist, and she had a history.

Rudolf immediately set the lunch box on the floor, pulled a key from her pocket, and started unlocking the door—afraid Meteor might do something reckless again.

Disaster Timing

Inside the bathroom, Meteor heard the key turning.

She panicked too.

Without thinking, she just wanted to run to the entrance and block the door.

"I—oh—AAAAAH!!"

She stepped on shampoo she'd just squeezed onto the floor, slipped, lost her balance, and slammed hard onto the ground with a scream.

Hearing that scream, Rudolf didn't even bother with the key anymore.

She kicked the door lock open in one blow, ignored the foul odor hanging in the room, and rushed inside.

Seeing Meteor scrambling up from the bathroom doorway, Rudolf finally exhaled in relief.

But once her heart settled, her attention shifted—

To the stink pouring out of the bathroom.

"Meteor… what did you do this time?"

"Uh… nothing? Haha… ha…"

Rudolf stared at Meteor's awkward smile.

Meteor's eyes kept dodging. She clearly didn't want to tell the truth.

Rudolf could only try to soothe her first—she couldn't risk provoking her.

"I won't scold you. But if you don't tell me, I'll be really worried."

"…Okay. It's just—after running. You know, training. I wanted to shower, and maybe I ate too much this morning, so I felt sick and threw up."

Meteor decided on a half-truth: mix the lie into the truth.

That way, even if Rudolf tried to verify it with someone else, she wouldn't be easily exposed.

Then she continued in a small, wronged-sounding voice:

"And I'd just finished cleaning when I heard you knocking… I-I was scared you'd smell it and get mad… that you'd start hating me…"

Before she could finish—

Rudolf covered Meteor's mouth with her hand.

Then she pulled her into a gentle hug.

Meteor didn't realize it herself, but the expression she'd made just now looked like someone about to be abandoned all over again.

It stabbed Rudolf right in the heart.

"That won't happen," Rudolf whispered. "Absolutely not. I promise."
