Chapter 4 - CHAPTER 4 — Escape Plan Number One (Failed Spectacularly)

I spent exactly two hours planning my escape.

Two hours.

Because patience is not my ministry.

I studied the room. Window. Door. Guard schedule. Everything.

At midnight, I executed my plan.

Step one: tie bedsheets together.

Step two: climb down the balcony.

Step three: run into freedom.

Simple.

Except I forgot one thing.

I am afraid of heights.

Halfway down, I looked down and saw the ground smiling at me like it wanted to collect my bones.

"No turning back," I whispered dramatically.

Then the balcony door opened above me.

"Interesting choice of exercise," Lorenzo's voice said.

I almost fell.

Two guards pulled me back inside.

He stared at the bedsheets, then at me.

"I underestimated your stupidity."

"Sir, it is called courage."

"You climbed down four floors with bedsheets."

"Yes."

"Without shoes."

I looked at my bare feet.

"…Details."

He rubbed his temple like I was giving him a headache.

"You are impossible."

"You kidnapped me. We are both suffering."

For the first time…

I swear his lips almost twitched like he wanted to laugh.

Then he said, "Double her security."

Rude again.
