Chapter 10 - The Girl Who Remembers Me

Cahpter16-After the Storm

Light faded.

Slowly.

Gently.

Like waking up from a dream that was too real.

Ling opened her eyes.

She was lying on the obsidian ground of the real realm—

The Inner Realm gone, the Shadow gone,

Only silence around her.

Her wings felt heavy.

Her chest ached.

Her breath trembled.

But the first thing she did was whisper:

"…Arin?"

A soft groan answered her.

Ling turned sharply.

Arin was beside her—

Collapsed, exhausted, wings dim but intact.

Ling crawled to her instantly, hands shaking.

"Arin… Arin, look at me."

Arin blinked slowly, eyes unfocused.

*"Ling…?

We made it back…?"*

Ling nodded, tears gathering.

"Yes.

We're back."

Arin smiled weakly.

"I told you… I'd follow you anywhere."

Ling's heart clenched.

She pulled Arin into her arms, holding her tightly.

Arin leaned into her, breath soft against Ling's shoulder.

"Your wings… they're different."

Ling looked over her shoulder.

Her wings were glowing—

White‑gold and shadow‑black intertwined,

Stable, balanced, beautiful.

Ling whispered:

"They're… whole."

Arin touched them gently.

"So are you."

Ling's breath broke.

Before she could speak, the First Guardian approached—

Silent, solemn, but relieved.

"You both survived the Inner Realm.

And the Shadow is gone."

Ling nodded.

Arin squeezed her hand.

The Guardian continued:

"But the merging…

It is no longer just Ling's burden."

Ling froze.

Arin looked up.

"What do you mean?"

The Guardian's eyes softened.

"Your hearts are linked now.

Permanently."

Ling's breath caught.

Arin's eyes widened.

The Guardian stepped back, giving them space.

"Whatever comes next…

You face it together."

Ling looked at Arin.

Arin looked at Ling.

And for the first time—

There was no fear.

No hesitation.

No distance.

Just truth.

Arin whispered:

"Together sounds perfect."

Ling smiled softly.

"Yeah.

It does."

The realm around them glowed gently—

As if acknowledging the end of the storm.

The realm was quiet now.

No Shadow.

No storm.

No screaming emotions tearing them apart.

Just Ling and Arin, sitting together on the obsidian plain, their wings brushing softly.

Arin leaned against Ling's shoulder, exhausted but peaceful.

"Ling… does it feel different now?"

Ling looked at her wings—

The perfect merge of light and shadow, glowing gently.

"Yes.

It feels… whole.

Balanced.

Like I'm finally myself."

Arin smiled softly.

*"Good.

You deserve that."*

Ling turned to her.

"And you?

How's your heart?"

Arin placed Ling's hand over her chest.

*"Steady.

Because you're here."*

Ling's breath caught.

For the first time, there was no fear in her eyes.

No hesitation.

No running.

Just truth.

Ling whispered:

"Arin… I thought I'd lose you."

Arin shook her head gently.

*"You can't lose me.

Not anymore."*

Ling's wings wrapped around her—

Not as a shield,

Not out of fear,

But out of love.

Arin rested her forehead against Ling's.

"What happens now?"

Ling smiled softly.

"Now… we live.

Together.

Whatever comes next."

Arin closed her eyes, letting the warmth of Ling's wings surround her.

"Together sounds perfect."

Ling whispered:

"It is."

The First Guardian watched from a distance, a faint smile on his face.

"The storm has passed.

And two hearts have chosen each other."

Ling held Arin closer.

Arin whispered one last line—

The line that closed the story:

*"As long as you're with me…

I'm not afraid of anything."*

Ling kissed her forehead gently.

"And you never will be."

The realm glowed softly around them—

A quiet, peaceful light.

The story ended not with a battle,

Not with a scream,

But with two hearts finally at peace.
