Chapter 8 - First Domino

Thren stared with disbelief at the red screen in front of him. He rubbed his eyes, hoping he was just seeing things. But the text didn't magically change.

"Just kill me already."

[First Domino: Destroy Gunlag

Time Limit: 20 days

Description: Prove your worth or be disposed.

Reward: B tier voic, Will fragments

Penalty: Death]

He let out a faint chuckle as he looked over the text once more.

Dismissing it, Thren moved to the edge of the tower. His gaze cut through Gunlag. From the floating air balloons, the bridges connecting high rise metallic alloy houses, to the trains delivering ores to blacksmiths.

His eyes moved downwards, to the streets between houses, packed full with civilians struggling to find there way to the port or any way to exit Gunlag.

Which was not normal for a God city considering they took order seriously. But Gunlag wasn't an ordinary city, it was more of an outpost for blacksmith God kingdom. Although it served more as a trading town filled with Mercenaries and quite dangerous characters who were allowed to go about there business as long as the mayor got a cut. But that also has its disadvantage as it loosened the control they had on the citizens.

In other words, Gunlag was a dangerous city, filled with not just blacksmith God faithfuls, but other dangerous characters.

And he was supposed to destroy it. All of it.

Just be straight with me, you want me dead don't you?

The mayor was a damn Acolyte, no that was going too high up the leader, the normal Enforcers who are the lowest of the forces are goddamn neophytes. While he, he looked at his status screen once more...he was barely a neophyte, the lowest of the low, barely starting out.

Sure, there were other ways to take out Gunlag city. He could target the Power cores on which the city ran, but those were always guarded by a squadron of Sentinels.

Not to mention there were five cores. Even if I miraculously destroyed one. Destroying the other four would be next to impossible.

Especially since the fifth is in the center of the city. His eyes moved to a large metallic statue of a man with a hammer located in the middle of the city. The top of the hammer had a large blue crystal pulsing with energy, glowing like a second sun.

The blacksmith gods temple was right below it, the dwelling of the so called priest, who was rumored to be stronger than even the Mayor.

Yep, I might as well jump down to my death.

All possible ways he could think of, be it political, ideological or social all required him to be strong above a certain level or at least certainly more time than 20 days.

"I am doomed, doomed," Thren spread out his hands atop the tower.

His nose scrunched up in disgust as the smell of blood from his shirt hit him.

Right, before anything I should get clean.

He pulled out a wallet from the duster jacket. Luckily, as expected of a spoilt brat. Adrian was carrying around a storage ring with quite a bit of coins, a high quality steam revolver, it's sleek design a testament of the blacksmiths skill.

If only the bastard had used this, he'd have been the one alive. Thren grinned

This would fetch me quite a bit of coins, if I manage to finish the one he was carrying of course.

For now, I need a shower.

***

Thren moaned in satisfaction as the warm water ran down his body, washing off the foam from his smooth and clean skin. He could never get used to how amazing it felt, it was like the water was perfectly balanced, not too hot or cold, just at the right temperature that made you not want to step out of the shower, an insidious trap.

Unfortunately he had fallen into the trap.

As he had spent almost an hour in the shower.

Of course the first few minutes were spent washing off dirt, blood and grime from the arena, a hard venture indeed as some parts of him were caked with blood. But afterwards he found himself enjoying the warm water from the tap so much he refused to step out.

Of course this was not considered luxurious for the nobles or even normal Alynd, but as a human, always on the run. Thren and his family had no luxury or time to enjoy this, and so he decided to enjoy it, even if it was in a low class hotel.

Due to the panic and a little bit of greasing of the receptionist palm, he was able to get this room without much questions.

Thren lifted his head, allowing the water splash on it, his hair falling back. For a minute, his throat tightened as he thought of his family.

He turned off the water and watch it run into the sinkhole.

Aurelio would have loved this.

Although technically this is his body, it's my mind so...Thren shook his head as he felt a headache coming along.

"I should get out of here."

But his hand seemed to disagree as it went to the tap head.

He turned on the water again.

For Aurelio.

And that was how he spent another thirty minutes before reluctantly stepping out of the shower.

As Thren dried himself, he took a quick glance at his essence.

[45/46]

He had deduced that essence recovered on itself much like for normal Alynd, but the more relaxed he was the better. And with that, he also made a new discovery about himself.

Bathing made him relaxed.

After all, before hitting the shower, his essence was at 10, and it was public knowledge that recovering essence was tough, especially for lower level evolved.

Hmm, so does that mean I'll just bath anytime I'm low on essence, It does seem convenient doesn't it. Thren thought with a smile on his face.

But most importantly, he was looking forward to speaking with Sullivan. On the way to the hotel, he had gone shopping, which went quite well.

Come to think of it, this panic favours me a lot. Perhaps it isn't as bad a thing as people put it. Thren nodded his head in agreement.

At the shop, he had run into a mercenary who used drugs to control an aberrant. Turning something that was generally considered deadly into his pet. So the idea came to Thren.

Why can't he use drugs to take down Gunlag.

Not drug the citizens, of course that wouldn't work. But aberrants were a different case.

Gunlag was an outpost surrounded by aberrant zones, except for the northern wall, which opened into an ocean. It was a dangerous location to place a city, but due to the rare lunate core found in this area, the Blacksmith kingdom took the risk anyway. But they chose not to invest too much resources into it, which explains the order. But they were happy as long as they got their lunate.

So if he could agitate the aberrants to attack Gunlag, wouldn't that be quest complete.

He was going to make an aberrant hoard. And the only one who could help or break this plan was Sullivan.

[46/46] His essence filled up at that second.

«Sullivan the mad alchemist

Job: Alchemist

Activated»

Thren's essence dropped by one, then that irritable and tired voice sounded in his head, now with a hint of disgust.

"Why are you naked?"
