Chapter 38 - Chapter 38 — Blood Moon Ascendant

The night air was thick with anticipation, the Blood Moon hanging high and unrelenting over Shadowfang territory. Its silver-red glow cast long shadows across the training grounds, illuminating the pack as they gathered.

Nyra stood at the center, veins glowing faintly in rhythm with her heartbeat. Kael approached, his golden eyes scanning her carefully. "Tonight, we push past limits," he said, voice low but commanding. "You're no longer just the heir. You're the weapon Shadowfang will wield."

Nyra swallowed hard, the weight of responsibility settling on her shoulders. "I… I'm ready," she whispered, though a flicker of fear ran through her chest.

Kael nodded, then stepped back, giving her space. "Focus on the flow. Let your power obey your will, not your fear. The Blood Moon will show you what you're capable of — but it will test you, too."

Nyra closed her eyes. She let the silver energy pulse through her veins, imagining it like liquid fire, bending to her thoughts, expanding, retracting, controlled. Slowly, the first wave of power surged outward, forming shimmering wolf-like shapes that mirrored her movements.

The pack gasped. Even Kael's usual stern expression softened with pride.

"Good," Kael murmured. "Now let's push further."

He stepped closer, placing his hands lightly on her shoulders. "Merge your energy with mine. Feel the bond — let it guide your control."

Nyra felt his power intertwine with hers, steady and strong. The sensation was overwhelming, like a tide of light and warmth crashing over her. Her heart raced as the silver forms around her grew larger, sharper, more precise.

And then — she lost control.

The silver wolves flared violently, charging forward in every direction. Branches splintered, the earth trembled, and Nyra screamed as the power surged beyond her control. Kael roared, wolf instincts threatening to consume him as he lunged to contain her energy.

"Nyra! Focus on me! NOW!" he shouted, grabbing her hands and locking his eyes with hers.

Slowly, trembling, she channeled the chaos into a single beam of light, shaping it into a protective barrier around the training grounds. The energy hummed like a living thing, silver and fierce, and the pack watched in awe.

"You did it," Kael said, voice rough with emotion. "You didn't just control it… you commanded it."

Nyra sank to her knees, exhausted but exhilarated. Sweat and moonlight mixed on her skin, her heart pounding. "It's… stronger than I imagined," she admitted, voice trembling. "If I can't control it… it could destroy everything."

Kael knelt beside her, brushing her hair from her face. "Then you'll master it. And I'll be here. Every step."

Nyra's chest tightened, the bond between them pulsing stronger than ever. She had feared losing control, feared harming Kael, feared failing the pack — but now, she glimpsed her true potential.

A sudden, piercing howl cut through the night, echoing from beyond the ridge. Nyra's silver veins flared violently. The shadow wolf. It had returned.

Kael rose immediately, wolf instincts flaring. "This isn't over. They're testing us… and now, they know how strong you've become."

Nyra stood, fists glowing with silver energy, her fear replaced with determination. "Then let them come," she said. "We're ready."

Kael's hand found hers, interlacing fingers. "Together," he said.

The Blood Moon bathed them both in light and shadow, a silent witness to the power of the heir and her Alpha mate. And somewhere in the distance, the shadow wolf watched, eyes burning with hunger and malice, waiting for the perfect moment to strike again.
