Chapter 6 - A Legendary Hunter- Wait what?

Footsteps echoed softly as a pale foot moved casually through the grass, each step unhurried. Her white dress fluttered gently in the wind, fabric whispering against the night. She slowed, then came to a stop.

Raising her hand to her side, palm open, she waited. A single snowflake drifted down, settling delicately into her grasp. In that moment, the forest changed.

Snow began to fall.

The night woodland, once swallowed in darkness, was gradually veiled in white. Her presence illuminated the surroundings, soft, pale light bleeding into the trees as frost gathered along the ground and branches alike.

She lifted her head.

From behind, she stood perfectly still, posture straight as her gaze fixed upon the moon hanging above. Her dress continued to sway with the wind, untouched, pristine—an unmoving figure amid a world slowly surrendering to winter.

[Transition]

Yukie still on the same floor of the opera house, stood beneath the same moon, her posture equally still.

Her expression was sharp, focused, fierce.

Slowly, she closed her eyes. Then she turned her head to the side, the tension in her features deepening as unease settled in.

"Strange, this feels familiar." she thought.

Her eyes opened suddenly, the frame locked inches from her gaze.

Chapter 6, Mysteries of the night, sink in

The two remained locked in a struggle of force--

their weapons grinding together, sparks flaring in brief, violent flashes as metal resisted metal.

Then--

They broke apart.

Makoto was forced back, shoes skidding across the grass as he dropped into a low kneel, one hand steadying his balance.

Across from him, Vasilisa slid backward with effortless grace, never breaking her stance. Her right foot led the motion, fans poised and ready, her posture composed even in retreat.

Both of their movements carved shallow trails along the ground, dust rising and drifting in their wake.

Silence followed.

Makoto rose to his feet.

Vasilisa lowered her stance just slightly.

For a brief moment, neither advanced.

They stood evenly matched, balanced upon the same ground, neither yielding.Vasilisa tilted her head, studying him.

"Sentience," she began lightly. "It is the instinct that seeks logic in survival. The trait that turns all of us into predators."

Her lips curved faintly.

"And yet… you do not operate on that same dependence."

She took a small step forward, fans resting loosely in her hands.

"If we were to be together," she continued, a soft chuckle slipping free,

"perhaps I could come to understand you better. Hm?"

Makoto slowly lowered his guard, raising his left hand toward her, palm open.

"Perhaps we can resolve this without further violence," he said evenly.

"It isn't too late to halt-"

"-Unfortunately."

The single word cut him off.

In the instant that followed, she moved.

Her advance was so sudden it bordered on absence, one moment she stood meters away, the next she was directly before him, mere feet apart. Her right arm was already raised, fan poised to slice downward.

"Such speed,"

Makoto noted calmly as his gaze locked into hers.

"I have always been a devourer of fragility,"

Vasilisa murmured faintly.

She struck.

The world went black.

"You fell for it."

Makoto's voice echoed as reality snapped back into place.

Vasilisa found herself caught mid-motion, surrounded. Multiple pink, piercing slashes converged toward her from every angle, while Makoto's right arm surged upward beneath her guard, katana rising toward her chin with lethal precision.

"Petal Dance: Second Fold - Imminent Swords."

For a breathless moment, everything aligned.

Then--

it all happened at once.

Her fan grazed Makoto's face as he twisted aside, missing him by less than an inch. At the same time, Vasilisa shifted just as narrowly, sliding to the right, the katana's edge passing beneath her jaw by the same unforgiving margin.

Her left fan ignited in dark yellow light.

"Mercy's Fall: Darkest Maw."

She swept the fan in a smooth, arcing motion- its path tracing a spectrum like a warped rainbow. The fan drank in the incoming pink blades, absorbing the imminent strikes as they vanished into its surface.

Then, Vasilisa leapt backward, landing light on her feet, distance restored.

She now stood several meters away.

A faint smile touched her lips.

She raised her thumb, brushing it lightly across her mouth- then paused. Her gaze lowered.

Blood stained her skin.

The katana had grazed her.

Noticing it, she let out a soft chuckle. Slowly, deliberately, she brought her thumb to her lips and licked it clean, wiping the crimson away as though savoring the taste rather than removing it.

Only then did she look back at him.

"Ehh~ you are strong," she said lightly.

"The most capable hunter I have encountered, and fought."

Her eyes narrowed with genuine intrigue.

"You truly live up to the title. One of the Seven Legendary Hunters… across centuries of old lore."

She smiled, tilting her head just slightly.

"I would be… deeply honored if you allowed me to feed my own blood to you, Ma.ko.to~"

Makoto exhaled calmly, his grip steady.

"You seem unusually well-informed," he remarked.

"Has Russia, too, passed down a generational lineage of Armament Arts?"

She closed both fans with a soft snap and lifted one, resting its spine lightly against her cheek.

"Well," she replied with a faint hum,

"I would like to offer reassurance- for your comfort, of course."

Her eyes glinted behind the fan.

"But my nation is rather… protective of its inherited mysteries."

A pause.

"And I happen to be one of its inheritors."

Her smile returned, polite, composed, teasing.

"Will that suffice for your curiosity?"

"Hm. Why do you desire for my end?" Makoto asked calmly.

"Is there something more to it?"

"Oh?"

Vasilisa tilted her head slightly, amused.

"I am simply… running out of time."

Her smile softened- then sharpened.

"And before my existence collapses," she continued,

"I wished to see how you are now. Two months later."

Her eyes gleamed.

"The legendary hunter whose history is as refined as the philosophy I so dearly twist."

A light, elegant laugh escaped her lips, regal, mocking. "I wanted to see you move. To see you hunt. To watch you behave like a Deviant."

"Hahaha."

"Two months later…?" Makoto thought, his gaze narrowing.

"This will not be our final meeting, my dear,"

she said smoothly.

"But before I take my leave from your stage…"

She leaned forward slightly, her head tilting as her body followed with an almost unnatural grace, movements beautiful, wrong, deliberate.

"I am curious just how much of me you can withstand."

"What now-" Makoto began.

The ground answered first.

The ground trembled deliberately and gradually, not just merely beneath them, but throughout the surrounding countryside. Trees shuddered. The forest groaned.

From the soil itself, massive surges of yellow light erupted, towering currents of energy tearing upward like pillars of burning wind.

The forest became an inferno of yellow.

Vasilisa stood at its center.

Dark Energy flooded outward from her form, wrapping her completely in a violent, radiant aura. The air distorted. Pressure mounted. The land itself seemed to recoil from her presence. Slowly, deliberately, she opened her eyes.

"Spiritual… Awakening."

Her voice carried no strain.

Only authority.
