Chapter 28 - Too Early To Celebrate.

Leon's Pov:

Noah and I slowly paced the room. I checked every minute that went by. No one made a sound. Max was beyond unpredictable and the slightest mistake could mean all our deaths.

Thirty minutes went by and we finally heard a car pull up. I and Noah looked directly at the entrance.

And just like that, the reason for fifteen years of suffering and endurance walked in. He had a wide grin on his face, like he was genuinely happy to see me.

"Noah, it's good to see you." He stretched out his hand for a handshake.

"I can't say the same for you." Noah replied.

"Exactly how I like it."

Then, he turned back to me and pulled me in for a hug.

"I knew you couldn't come alone."

"Why would I do that?"

"Lonely, I see?"

"Don't flatter yourself. I have an entire army, I can't be lonely."

"If that were to be true you wouldn't go through such a hassle trying to get me back."

His smile faded. "Why did you call me here."

He turned to the seat at the far end, where Alvin was seated earlier.

"And why did you bring Noah with you."

"Just incase you tried to, I don't know, kill me."

The chilling smile was back.

"I have reasons to you know. But I won't."

I shrugged my shoulders. "Why?"

"Because I need you."

I shook my head in disappointment.

"Think of how powerful we were back in the days brother. I can help you."

"No! You can't."

"Ohh? Who can help you then? That little girl I took?"

It took me everything not to lunge at him.

"What do you want?" Noah butted in.

"From you? Absolutely nothing, you're useless. Unless you can convince your friend over here to join me."

"Join you on a killing spree? He doesn't want that."

"He does. Somewhere deep inside him."

He stood up again and walked over to us.

"I can kill everyone you love in a heartbeat. Don't push me."

I looked over his shoulder to see Alvin slowly getting up.

I looked at the guards by the door to warn him. He understood quickly and readjusted his form.

"And I can kill you in a heartbeat."

Alvin stood up with a gun aiming for Max. He pulled the trigger not even a second later. Max, unable to see who shot him, fell on his knees.

Max's bodyguards immediately started shooting at the container but they had already stood up. Adrian shot one of them clean in the chest.

The men we had in hiding rushed out too. Bullets flew, boys dropped dead like flies, and eventually everyone Max came in with was dead.

"Well this was boring." Adrian got up and walked over to us. So did Alvin.

"More like easy." Noah replied.

"Too easy."

Something felt off. It felt too good to be true. It shouldn't have been that easy.

"We killed him, wondering why it was easy isn't necessary." Alvin placed the gun back in his pants.

"So what was the point of bringing my men out?"

"Protection, which they fulfilled."

"Shut up Noah. This was a complete waste of time."

"Relax Adrian. Your thirst for blood won't get you anywhere."

"Says the man who got the honors of killing him."

"You shot one too." Noah said.

As they all continued to bicker, I kept looking for loopholes. I knew Max longer than anyone did. I knew how he would think and letting himself die like this wasn't like him at all.

Or could he really trust me to that extent? We are brothers after all.

"What are we celebrating with? A renunion maybe?" Alvin asked with an accomplished smile.

"I'm not staying for a stupid renunion."

"Glad no one invited you." Noah replied.

"Have you forgotten how much power I hold? You're lucky you're still standing alive."

"Relax." I finally said something. "Something's wrong."

"Don't be a pain Leon, nothing's wrong."

"Can I leave now?" Adrian asked, no one answered him.

My phone started buzzing with texts. My phone was on do not disturb and only Ava could reach me when I was on it. I pulled out my phone from my pocket to see over twenty missed calls from Ava.

All her texts kept aiming at the calls I wasn't answering and that I needed to pick up.

I hurriedly dialed her number and called her back. She answered immediately.

"Where are you?!"

"What's wrong?"

"Whatever you're planning you need to stop right now."

"What? Ava calm down and explain."

My heart was basically on my toes at this point.

"You cant kill him Leon. Wherever you are, you need to leave, now."

Her tone made it very clear that she wasn't joking.

Another call came in. From an unknown number.

"I'll call you back."

"No, you have to listen to me."

I hung up before she could say anything else.

I turned back to the boys who had suddenly shifted their attention to me.

I picked up the call and put it on speaker.

"You have no idea what you just did."

Max.
