Chapter 5 - Trial of the Spirit Vein

The Spirit Vein Convergence Plateau shimmered with otherworldly energy. Silver threads of spiritual energy flowed across the jagged cliffs, connecting floating islands like invisible rivers. The air pulsed, humming with life and latent power.

Yuexin stood at the center of the plateau, sweat slicking his brow. His body still throbbed from yesterday's awakening of the Spirit Vein Realm, veins glowing faintly beneath his skin like silver lightning. The Heavenly Map pulsed in tandem with his heartbeat, guiding him, whispering paths, but no longer carrying him outright. He had to rely on instinct as much as guidance now.

Lian Yue adjusted her stance, twin blades at the ready, eyes fixed on him. Lady Yuenei floated slightly above the ground, hands folded, her silver robes shimmering in the ethereal light.

"Today, Yuexin," Lady Yuenei said, her voice calm yet commanding, "you face your first trial. You are not merely training—you will fight multiple opponents simultaneously. Only through adversity will your Spirit Vein truly awaken."

Yuexin inhaled, feeling the pulse of the plateau beneath his feet. "I am ready."

"Ready?" Lian Yue raised an eyebrow. "We'll see how ready you are when ten opponents try to tear you apart."

From the swirling clouds around the plateau, figures emerged—ten in total, all trained cultivators, each one a master of their own minor domain within the Spirit Vein Realm.

A man with obsidian robes and a spear stepped forward. "You are Yuexin?" His voice was cold, detached. "You will not survive this trial if you underestimate us."

A woman with flowing blue robes materialized to his side. "The map may guide you, boy, but intuition cannot replace skill."

Others followed, each radiating deadly aura, each ready to test the boy who dared awaken Spirit Vein in record time.

Yuexin's chest tightened as he felt the combined energy of ten Spirit Vein cultivators pressing toward him. The Heavenly Map pulsed violently, highlighting weaknesses in their positions, but also warning him of their speed, unpredictability, and techniques.

"Focus…", he muttered, letting the energy of the plateau merge with the map. "Flow with it. Sense it. Move before they do."

The first attacker lunged, spear flashing like lightning. Yuexin reacted instinctively, his body twisting, dodging, and countering. The map guided his movements, revealing angles and openings, yet he felt the difference from Mortal Vein Realm—Spirit Vein required awareness, balance, and anticipation.

A second opponent struck from above, a whip of energy slicing downward. Yuexin rolled, narrowly avoiding the attack. The Heavenly Map flared, illuminating the path of least resistance. Using that path, he struck the spear wielder with a burst of spiritual energy, sending him staggering back.

"Not bad," Lian Yue shouted, circling him like a shadow. "But this is a trial! You'll need to combine power with awareness. Don't just react—predict!"

Yuexin's eyes glowed. He could now see the currents of Spirit Vein energy, the flow of qi in each opponent, and the subtle tells that gave away their attacks. Each strike he dodged, each blow he landed, made the Heavenly Map pulse brighter, feeding him information faster than thought could process.

The attackers adjusted, forming coordinated patterns to overwhelm him. Spirit Vein cultivators could sense energy flows, and their synchronization tested Yuexin's perception to the limit.

A trio of enemies attacked simultaneously from different angles. Yuexin barely managed to block one strike with a ghostly afterimage conjured by the map, while dodging another. The third barely missed him as he flipped backward, arms outstretched, energy spilling from his palms.

"This is… insane!" he muttered. But as he landed, a smile tugged at his lips. "I can do this… I will endure!"

The battle raged across the plateau, rocks shattering, floating islands quaking, clouds swirling violently. Every movement tested Yuexin's mind, body, and Spirit Vein senses. He realized he could no longer rely solely on instinct—the map illuminated paths, but he needed anticipation, strategy, and the will to act.

"Balance…", he whispered. "Flow… fight… endure…"

Above the plateau, a shadow lingered beyond the clouds. Xuan Ji, cloaked in black and crimson, observed the trial. His eyes were narrow, calculating.

"So, the boy's Spirit Vein awakens," he murmured. "Interesting… but he has yet to see true adversity. The Abyssal Realm tests the soul itself. Soon, he will learn that survival is not enough—he must dominate or perish."

A ripple of dark energy passed through the plateau, unnoticed by the trial cultivators, but Yuexin's newly awakened Spirit Vein sense tingled faintly. It was subtle—a warning. The world was larger, darker, and more dangerous than he yet imagined.

Yuexin dodged another onslaught, weaving through attacks as if dancing. His fists glowed faintly with Spirit Vein energy. Lian Yue moved beside him, intercepting one opponent and spinning gracefully to create openings for Yuexin to exploit.

"You're learning fast," she said, a hint of admiration in her voice. "But don't forget… Spirit Vein is perception and anticipation. One lapse, and you die."

He nodded, sweat and blood mixing on his face. The Heavenly Map pulsed, feeding him information, showing attack patterns, weaknesses, and the flow of energy.

"I understand," he whispered. "I must flow… I must adapt…"

With that thought, he advanced. Spirit Vein energy surged through his limbs, enhancing reflexes, predicting attacks, and amplifying every strike. The attackers, skilled though they were, began faltering, unable to adjust to his unpredictable combination of map guidance and instinctual combat flow.

One of the opponents, a slender woman with robes that shimmered like water, unleashed a barrage of spiritual blades from all directions. Yuexin's vision blurred as Spirit Vein currents intertwined with the Heavenly Map's guidance.

"Flow… strike… endure…", he chanted in his mind.

He moved like water, bending with the attacks, dodging some, absorbing others with bursts of energy, and countering with strikes of his own. After a flurry of motion that left the plateau echoing with shockwaves, the attackers paused, shocked at his adaptability.

Lian Yue smiled. "Now you're getting it. Spirit Vein is more than power—it's understanding, predicting, and acting before thought can catch up."

By the end of the trial, Yuexin stood alone, the ten Spirit Vein cultivators kneeling or staggered around him. His chest glowed faintly, veins like molten silver tracing intricate patterns across his skin. Sweat and blood slicked his body, his clothes torn, but he was alive—and stronger.

"You have succeeded beyond expectation," Lady Yuenei said, eyes calm but proud. "Spirit Vein has awakened in full. Your body, mind, and map are now synchronized. This is the first true step toward the Devourer of Heaven."

Yuexin staggered to his knees, gasping for breath. He had survived, he had adapted, and he had grown—but he knew the world beyond Spirit Vein would be harsher, darker, and deadlier.

"I feel it," he said, voice trembling with both exhaustion and excitement. "The next steps… Celestial Martial… Abyssal Realm… Heaven itself… I will rise through them all."

Lian Yue knelt beside him, placing a hand on his shoulder. Her eyes softened, a flicker of admiration in them. "You're reckless, Yuexin… but I think you really might do it. I think… you might really devour heaven."

Yuexin looked up at the red-gold sky, the clouds swirling like storms of fate. The Heavenly Map pulsed beneath his skin, guiding, whispering, and promising power beyond imagination.

"Let the heavens tremble," he whispered. "I am Yuexin… the Devourer of Heaven."

Above, in the floating islands of the Celestial Martial Realm, whispers spread like wildfire. Yuexin's Spirit Vein awakening had not gone unnoticed. Ren Kai, Mo Renshu, and even distant observers in the Abyssal Realm began to plot, intrigued, wary, and threatened by the boy who dared to rise faster than anyone expected.

The world would no longer wait for the Devourer.
