Chapter 48 - Chapter 48: The Fourth avatar!

The command was issued.

The huge virtual roulette on the panel began to spin, and multicolored light intertwined on their retinas, illuminating the slightly languid faces of the three people.

Su Modie was looking forward to it. Who would this villainess avatar be? What rank would she be?

It couldn't possibly be... another B-Rank, right?

Could Reze actually have been right?

Is she really destined to be with B-Ranks? A whole room full of B-Ranks... "Now drawing..."

The whirring sound of the spinning roulette was exceptionally clear in the quiet bedroom.

The pointer slowly decelerated, finally stopping on a somewhat familiar, slender and elegant female silhouette.

The prompt sound of the villainess simulation game exploded like a clap of thunder from a clear sky—

"Ding! Congratulations to the Host for drawing the S-Rank avatar—Makima (chainsaw man · Control Devil)."

...Wait... who the hell did I draw?

Makima?!

Sorry... wrong one.

Su Modie was completely stunned, barely able to believe her ears at first.

Unlike Perona and Lux, this one was a true villainess and antagonist; in terms of being "bad," she was the absolute pinnacle!

More crucially, she and Reze... Almost simultaneously, Reze, who had been sleeping groggily on her lap, suddenly shuddered!

"!!!" Reze seemed to sense the aura of a natural predator, her muscles tensing to the extreme.

She sprang up from the bed, sitting bolt upright, like a startled wildcat whose tail had been stepped on!

Reze hadn't personally experienced the despair of being ambushed and killed by Makima in an alley.

But ever since she was summoned, she had seen the original plot trajectory of chainsaw man through Su Modie's memories.

She knew that if Su Modie hadn't summoned her here, she would have faced a miserable fate—she would have been killed in a dark alley by the Angel Devil controlled by Makima, thus becoming another one of her dominated slaves.

Reze understood just how terrifying the woman before her was.

Even before going to Japan, Reze had heard Makima's name... She was a monster that even the superpower Soviet Union in her World felt deep apprehension, even terror, towards.

"Reze?" Perona was startled by Reze's intense reaction and rubbed her eyes in confusion.

Reze didn't answer. She stared at the empty space beside the bed, her face pale. Even the pull tab on her neck rattled faintly from her trembling—the nightmare from last night was still vivid... right in front of them.

The air seemed frozen, and even the dust motes stopped drifting.

Suddenly, a tall, slender figure appeared there elegantly, adopting the posture of the true Master of this place.

Reze didn't even notice when she appeared; it was as if she had been there all along... The woman wore a long black Public Safety Coat over a meticulously buttoned white shirt and a black tie.

Her long red hair, which shimmered with an orange-pink luster in the light, was braided and hung down her back.

What was most heart-stopping were her eyes.

They were golden, eerie eyes whose pupils displayed concentric circular patterns.

At this very moment.

Those eyes were slightly curved.

They held a gentle smile that felt refreshing yet utterly devoid of warmth, quietly observing the three people on the bed.

She was beautiful, breathtakingly so.

But Su Modie felt an indescribable sense of being a "fake person"... Rather than a genuine smile, she seemed more like some high-dimensional humanoid creature expertly mimicking a human smile.

This might fool the eyes, but it couldn't fool the sixth sense, inexplicably giving rise to a chill similar to the uncanny valley effect.

"Modie-chan, nice to meet you."

Makima's voice was as gentle as a close older sister. She tilted her head slightly, her gaze sweeping over Su Modie before lightly resting on the completely rigid Reze: "Reze-chan, are you... trembling?"

The atmosphere in the bedroom plummeted from cozy to freezing point with this rhetorical question.

Su Modie hadn't expected this, and her feelings were complicated; she didn't know whether she should be happy or uneasy.

On the one hand, this was the first time she had drawn an avatar higher than B-Rank, even S-Rank, which should be cause for celebration. But on the other hand... no one had taught her what to do if the villainess avatars not only knew each other but also had a blood feud!

This was completely different from the minor squabbles before.

Reze and Perona not getting along was, at most, the bickering of frenemies who disliked each other, and after spending time together, they could eventually sleep while hugging.

But Reze and Makima... that wasn't just disliking each other.

That was prey versus hunter, slave versus controller, a true enemy!!

A deathly silence spread through the bedroom.

Reze was completely rigid and did not reply; it was a hierarchy suppression deeply etched into her bones.

Perona, too, understood the horror of the woman before them through memory sharing with Su Modie, and her face turned ghostly pale.

However.

Right in this suffocating awkwardness, Makima seemed completely oblivious to the tension.

Or rather, she simply didn't care.

As if she were in her own home, she slowly unbuttoned the heavy black Public Safety Coat she was wearing and tossed it onto a nearby chair, revealing the white shirt stretched taut over her extremely alluring figure, and the black trousers that outlined her long legs.

Following this, under the astonished gazes of Su Modie and the others.

Makima actually raised her leg elegantly and climbed directly onto the bed!

Her target was precisely—Su Modie!

"Eek—!!"

Perona let out a strange cry of alarm, scrambling and crawling off the end of the bed while clutching her pillow.

Reze remained frozen beside Su Modie, like a stone statue.

Makima didn't even glance at them, moving straight toward Su Modie.

That blend of expensive perfume and dangerous aura slowly approached.

"Y-you..."

Su Modie panicked, instinctively trying to retreat, but this was already the headboard. When she moved back, her spine pressed directly against the cold headboard.

There was nowhere left to retreat.

Snap.

A long, pale hand braced itself against the soft-padded accent wall beside Su Modie's ear.

It was a kabe-don filled with oppression and predatory intent.

Su Modie was like a little white rabbit targeted by a snake, forced to watch that exquisite, inhumanly beautiful face grow closer.

Until their noses were almost touching.

Makima extended her other hand.

Her cool fingertip gently landed on Su Modie's lips, moving tenderly as if stroking fragile porcelain, slowly rubbing.

"Modie-chan, why is your heart beating so fast?" Makima's breath fanned Su Modie's face, her voice possessing a tingling magnetism: "Don't worry, and don't be afraid. I'm very obedient... just like your other avatars."

As an avatar, Makima naturally understood Su Modie's inner thoughts.

She smiled, her concentric-ringed eyes seeming capable of sucking in a person's soul: "Because we are one, aren't we?"
