Chapter 2 - Viviana & Crowe

The Red Tail slowly opened his eyes as the nearby trees rustled in a gentle breeze. Sitting up, he became suddenly aware of his new body. It was as if he were a living shadow, a mist of black fog with red glowing eyes. He still had his ace-pilot gear on, but that was the only familiar thing about himself that he saw. He was startled for a moment, before his mind calmed down. "I... I died in that field. I remember it was so cold... I was so cold." The ace stood up, the Goddess appeared before him.

"Be at ease, pilot. I mean you no harm." The gentleness of her smile eased the pilot's nerves. "Why am I still alive. I know I dead back there... Please, what happened to those soldiers? What... what happened to me? Why do I look like this?" The Red Tail's eyes softened, almost pleading with her to answer him. The Goddess smiled, "I am Viviana, the Goddess of Life. I resurrected your soul her, to this new world, my world." Her expression shifted with the falling of her tone as she said "my world". The Red Tail knew what she meant by the sight of dried blood at the bottom of hill they were standing on. The Goddess shook her head, "Nevermind that, as for what you are, you are what this world would classify as a magi, or humanoid mana creature. You are an elder voidmist-kin. Where flesh and blood once were, now dark mana mist flows and swirls around you. Physical damage will do you no harm!" The Goddess smiled, but the Red Tail just stood there, looking down at his mist-like hands before speaking again.

"Elias Crowe." The Goddess snapped back to reality hearing him speak. "Huh? What is an... Elias Crowe?" The voidmist-kin pilot turned to face her. "You told me your name, Viviana. Elias Crowe is mine, and I am... was Ace of the 332nd Pursuit Squadron." The young-looking goddess, glowing peach-colored skin, golden locks of hair, white robes and all smiled gently. "Welcome Elias, welcome to my world." She smiled at him, but he raised a single mist-like finger upon in objection. "Call me Crowe, as it would seem to be more a fit now than Elias would." She smiled at him, "Crowe it is! Now, shall we get moving? There's an elven settlement not too far from here."

As the two began walking, the afternoon sun began setting, they walked and talked. Crowe was twenty, and a well-accomplished ace pilot. While Viviana was a few thousand years old, but looked eighteen or nineteen by just physical looks alone. As they entered the Elven woods, neither of them realized it, but Viviana had found the friend she'd been looking for, and Crowe had found the peace he'd flown the skies trying to find. As the sun vanished and night took it's first yawn, Crowe stood guard as Viviana slept, her power far too depleted from resurrecting his soul into this world. He could sense the presence of beings nearby, but opted to staying excessively close to Viviana would keep the beings from making a move. However, Crowe had gotten used to fighting humans. These beings, were elven hunters, who all surrounded the tent Crowe had set up from the two of them.

"COME OUT OF THAT TENT, UNARMED! YOU ARE SURROUNDED HUMAN FILTH!"
