Roman withdrew the knife, examining the thin line of blood on the blade with satisfaction.
"Just a scratch," he said conversationally. "I'm not ready to truly damage you yet. That comes later, when Killian is here to watch."
Isla's jaw throbbed where he'd cut her, but she kept her expression neutral. "You're going to a lot of trouble for revenge."
"Is it trouble? Or is it art?" Roman wiped the blade clean with a handkerchief. "I've spent five years planning this. Five years thinking about nothing but how to make Killian Archer suffer the way I've suffered. How to take everything from him the way he took everything from me."
"Your brother was a killer."
"So is Killian. So am I. We're all killers in this world, Mrs. Archer. The only difference is who we choose to kill and why." Roman set the knife aside and pulled out his phone again. "Ah. An update from the hospital. Your husband made it through surgery. Stable but critical. They expect him to wake within the next few hours."
