Chapter 2 - prayer works.. sometimes

POV: Ezell Redacted (20 years old)

Location: cell (mutant experiment site)

My eyes fluttered open and close slowly. Each attempt at keeping my eyes open and fighting the desire to sleep awoke me.

After my eyes opened my mind gradually did the same. My mind communicated with my eyes and understood I was somewhere new.

Their observations slowly overlapped and took in the details of where they and their owner was moved to now.

The first thing I noticed was the ceiling. It was concrete and it was very old from the looks of the cracks and spider webs on it.

"At least there's no more violent light or threats of hell."

The second thing I noticed was my current position. I was lying down on concrete floors that matched the ceiling.

The cold and dread filling concrete drained away what little heat my body produced. It felt like laying on a bed of ice nude.

I lied on the concrete floor for a few seconds longer before I quickly sat up and and cursed. "Shit that's cold!!"

When I sat up off the floor I hissed at departure of the cold concrete from my back.

The sudden change from extreme cold to a more relaxed coldness caused discomfort.

After I got used to the absence of the cold I looked down at my body and what I found was not exactly encouraging but instead caused me some worry.

Looking down I found myself wearing hospital clothing. I had a backless hospital gown on and from the occasional unwanted breeze that constantly came I was sure that I had no underwear on.

The ceiling, floor and my hospital gown made me realize my transmigration might not be as good as I thought. "Shit I'm somewhere bad.. I can just feel it." "Wait I might be in a expensive hospital."

I looked around the room and the small sliver of hope I had was crushed immediately. The room very much gave off unwilling lab rat. "No of course my shit luck isn't that good."

The room was all white or at least as white as old concrete could be. The walls were bare with no signs of life only showing decay. "Depressing shit."

No obvious cameras but in a world where a rich asshole can build a human suit capable of flight in a desert cave I'm not gonna rule them out completely. His eyes moved on to the next depressing object in the room.

There was a hybrid toilet and sink in the room. The sight of it and the metal seat that was no doubt cold made me say words I didn't mean. "I'm nevertouching that I'll kill myself before I do."

There was a raised concrete slab coming out of the wall with a white sheet but no blanket. "At least the county jail gave metal instead of concrete and something that pretended to be a mattress."

The worst of all was a huge heavy metal barred cell door. "Yeah I'm truly fucked ain't I?"

All the world travelers in the fanfics I read back at home all had it the easy way. They fall in some isolated or random lucky place and have all the luck one could ask for in situations like this.

They get powers like instant mastery or some other overpowered power that doesn't require work and gain woman after the other. Me? I'm stuck somewhere with a power that puts me at a disadvantage.

The worst part about my power is I'm not even religious!!! Yeah my mom and dad were religious nuts but I wasn't.

I left home young because I could force myself to pretend I believed in something or someone I couldn't see and now I'm stuck somewhere with a power that requires I do just that or die.

I sat on the floor cursing my life. "Damn if I knew It'd end like this I woulda went to church more often."

I looked around the room and suppressed my desire to scream. I sighed and thought of how to open the system.

The light person from before said it would open when I prayed but I had to actually believe in the prayer. Sounds easy but I never even prayed before so I don't know how to start or do one.

He took a deep breath and muttered ball up top before cleared his throat and tried.

His hands were together like he saw in church once and his eyes were tightly closed shut. "Dear supreme one allow me to open the system and show the strength of your children."

He waited a few seconds with closed eyes and after not hearing anything he opened his eyes hoping the system was just silent.

He opened his eyes slowly scared of the answer and once they were completely open he wanted to scream. This shitty system didn't open for his prayer!!!

He dropped his hands and put them on the side of his body and looked up at the concrete ceiling while thinking of how to open his system. "I have to pray to open it.. but how should I pray?"

He looked up in thought for a while before he got a idea. "What I say shouldn't matter as long as I believe in what I say."

His head left the ceiling and he began his prayer hoping he could open the system this time and begin his plan to escape.

"Whoever is listening allow me to open the system and escape this terrible place." The second he finished his prayer a loud and majestic sound played in his ears.

He opened his eyes quicker than he did before because he finally managed to get the system open.

The system took the shape of a gold bible and had some writing and lines on it.

Name: Ezell. Race: Human (Mutant) Age: 20. Sex: Male. Job: Beginner exorcist. Will: 30. STR: 10. Vil: 8. Agi: 10. Spi: 20. Items: Blessed dagger. Blessed crucifix. Blessed bible. Skill: None.

After Ezell read his stats his face switched from the previous scowl and changed to madness. This new priest looked no different from someone possessed by the same demons he was to destroy.
