Chapter 50 - Chapter 50: The Climactic Deification

March 28th, midnight.

Shiga Taka sat before the television, a mixture of anticipation and nervousness filling him as he prepared to watch the final episode of the Death Note animation.

His anticipation stemmed from his burning desire to know how the story would conclude, while his nervousness arose from the uncertainty of whether the final episode could truly deliver a perfect ending.

By now, he had come to cherish this work as if it were his own creation, born from his heart and soul. Naturally, he desperately hoped this animation would end flawlessly and become a masterpiece.

Tonight might just be the moment Death Note animation ascended to legendary status!

On the screen, after the opening sequence played, a brief GG section appeared, followed by a tens-second recap of the previous events. Then, the title of the final episode flashed: "Death."

The main story began with Misa Amane finding the male lead, Yagami Light, and asking what had happened.

"Ryuzaki and Watari are dead," Light didn't hide the truth.

"Ah, how amazing! I knew Light would pull through!" Misa Amane exclaimed joyfully.

"It wasn't me. It was Rem," Light explained the situation in broad strokes.

Misa Amane was somewhat surprised to hear this, but she was even happier for the Male Lead. "With this, no one will ever be a match for Light again."

The Male Lead smiled and didn't dwell on the topic. Instead, he asked Misa why she had come to the Investigation Headquarters. Misa replied that L had summoned her there for something important.

The Male Lead thought, Just as I suspected.

He had already figured out L's plan: to bring Misa to the Investigation Headquarters to meet her and allow her to see L's true name.

The Death Note had been sent to the FBI to verify the rule that murders must continue within 13 days. Only the Investigation Headquarters knew about this; Misa wouldn't.

Misa believed her suspicion had been completely cleared. In this situation, if they kept a close eye on the Male Lead and didn't give him any chance to warn her, she would definitely use the Death Note to write down L's true name once she returned.

If they could stop her and arrest her before she wrote the name, L wouldn't have to die.

Still, the Male Lead was somewhat puzzled: why would L need to personally take such a risk?

Misa Amane wasn't as cautious as he was. If they just kept a close eye on her, they would eventually catch her red-handed as Kira.

Perhaps this move wasn't meant to target Misa, but to expose him, the true Kira.

Too bad, Ryuzaki, you could never have imagined that the Shinigami would stand by my side. With this thought, he let out a triumphant laugh.

Now that L was dead, all his previous schemes were rendered useless.

The current situation was practically perfect for him. Before Misa could meet L, both L and Watari had died. With both of them inside the Investigation Headquarters, one with an alibi and the other with video surveillance as proof, they could easily prove their innocence. This would allow them to pin everything on Shinigami Rem and the non-existent Kira outside.

If L were still alive, he might have remained suspicious of them. But now that L was dead, the others were practically useless. He could twist the narrative however he pleased, and no one would question it.

L's death was a devastating blow to the Investigation Headquarters, throwing the entire organization into chaos.

The Male Lead called his father, Soichiro Yagami, to inform him of L and Watari's deaths. Soichiro was utterly astonished.

After the initial shock came grief, even sorrow.

Yet he quickly rallied, declaring that now more than ever, he must complete his mission: to deliver the Death Note to FBI headquarters.

The Male Lead naturally didn't want the Death Note taken there, nor did he want the two rules Ryuk had written to be exposed as false.

He tried to dissuade his father, but his efforts were in vain.

After hanging up, he sighed. "There's no other way. Since Father won't listen to reason, I'll have to sacrifice him."

He instructed Misa Amane to return and write Soichiro Yagami's name in the Death Note, along with the specific cause of death: "Bring back the Death Note, then find a secluded place and commit suicide."

Misa gasped in shock. "Light, what are you saying? That's your father!"

"I know, but there's no other way," the Male Lead said, looking utterly helpless.

He tried to persuade Misa Amane, using reasons like "creating a new world together" to get her to agree.

If he had asked her to kill someone else, Misa Amane might have agreed, but the thought of killing the Male Lead's father made her unable to do it, no matter what.

Seeing this, the Male Lead asked, "Did you bring the Death Note?"

"No," Misa Amane shook her head. "I never expected Ryuzaki to die so suddenly. How could I have brought something like the Death Note to a place like this?"

If they suddenly searched her belongings, she'd be in serious trouble.

The Male Lead nodded, about to tell Misa Amane to go home and get the Death Note, but she quickly added, "However, I tore off a page and kept it with me, so I can use it anytime."

With just a single page, there was no need to worry about it being discovered. After all, the Death Note's pages looked no different from ordinary paper, apart from their special power. She could easily explain it away.

Hearing this, the Male Lead immediately asked Misa Amane to hand the page over to him.

Misa Amane obediently handed over the paper, but she still didn't want to see the Male Lead kill his own father.

The Male Lead tried to reassure her with words, then picked up the pen and began to write on the paper.

However, before he could even write his father's name, a gunshot suddenly rang out.

A group of people in police uniforms and helmets rushed out, guns in hand, and quickly surrounded the two from a distance.

"What's going on?" The Male Lead was stunned.

Then, an even more shocking sight appeared: the leader of the group was none other than his father, Soichiro Yagami.

"Light... you've disappointed me too much," Soichiro Yagami said with a complex expression.

"Dad... didn't you take the Death Note to FBI Headquarters?" The Male Lead asked in disbelief.

"That was just a ploy to lure out the real Kira," a voice suddenly rang out.

L, who was supposed to be dead, had reappeared—he was still alive.

"Ryuzaki! You... you died! No! How... how are you still alive?!" The Male Lead was even more astonished.

L produced a Death Note—the one Soichiro Yagami had taken earlier.

He flipped it open, facing the Male Lead, and pointed to a name: "L·Lawliet."

L Lawliet. That was L's true name.

Below the name was the cause of death: "To die peacefully in 23 days."

Twenty-three days. That was the maximum number of days one could manipulate the time of death with a Death Note, as explained earlier when discussing its rules.

Furthermore, if the same person's name was written in two Death Notes, the first one took precedence, regardless of the order in which the deaths were scheduled.

L had written his own name and cause of death in that notebook before Rem acted, meaning his previous death had been a sham all along.

"I originally planned to use my own death to make you lower your guard, while using Mr. Yagami to lure you out. But my original plan was for Misa to kill me. I never imagined the Shinigami would side with you, let alone... even Watari..." L explained, his expression tinged with melancholy.

The Male Lead was shocked. He tried to deny it, but L immediately played a recording—the very one of him plotting to use the Death Note to kill his own father.

It turned out that when L feigned death and the Male Lead came to embrace him, L had secretly planted a miniature listening device on him. Every word the Male Lead had spoken was recorded, leaving him with no room to deny it.

The tide had turned against him.

The Male Lead made a final desperate attempt, trying to use the Death Note to kill again, but was quickly shot in the arm.

Bang!

Blood splattered.

The Male Lead cried out in pain, clutching his arm.

He tried to justify his ideals to the group, but was utterly condemned by his own father, Soichiro Yagami.

Cornered and desperate, the Male Lead frantically called out to Ryuk.

Ryuk appeared, but instead of helping him, he said, "Light, you lost." Then, he wrote the Male Lead's name in the Death Note.

In the end, the Male Lead died. Although L lived a few more days, he too couldn't escape death. Misa Amane committed suicide out of devotion.

It was a snowy day.

The Male Lead's sister, Yagami Sayu, went to pick up her father with an umbrella.

The two walked along the road.

"Crime has been increasing since Kira disappeared," Yagami Sayu remarked with a sigh.

"Do you think it was better with Kira around?" Soichiro Yagami asked.

"Of course not! He killed my brother," Sayu replied, her voice thick with sadness.

Soichiro gently patted her shoulder in comfort. "Light fought Kira to the very end. He was a true warrior."

"I know... I know," Sayu whispered, tears welling up.

They continued their slow walk down the long street.
