Chapter 14 - Eight Years Old, Building Empires

By the time Yue Ning turned eight, the Yue family had entered a new era of prosperity.

Her first restaurant, "Jade Lotus Inn", had quietly become the largest and most valuable establishment in Qingshui Town.

Its name was modest, but its reputation spread far and wide. Merchants, officials, and travelers all came for a meal, drawn by the perfect balance of flavors—and an unseen hand that guided every detail.

And behind it all was a Six-year-old girl, small and unassuming, sitting in the courtyard or her room, quietly reviewing accounts, making tiny adjustments to recipes, and ensuring every coin was tracked. No one suspected the owner's true identity.

Alongside her rising business empire, Yue Ning had begun schooling.

She attended classes with children older than herself. Teachers often paused mid-lesson, perplexed at her speed of understanding, her clarity of thought, and her calm demeanor. She never drew unnecessary attention, never answered in a way that revealed the depth of her knowledge.

At home, life was joyful.

Her eldest brother had already passed the County Examination.

Her other brothers had followed, successfully passing the County Examination and now waiting to take the Provincial Examination next year.

Yue Ning herself had also taken the County Examination, quietly, using a name that no one would recognize. She waited calmly for the results, her small hands drumming on the table only occasionally as she listened to her brothers and cousins laugh and joke.

The family spoiled her endlessly. They saved her the best dishes, carried her books, and teased her lovingly. Yue Ning accepted it with a small, composed smile.

Family affection is a treasure, she thought. And it is more enduring than heaven itself.

Then came the news that would change everything:

Her father's diligence and integrity had caught the Emperor's eye.

He was promoted to Fifth-Rank Official, a position that granted him authority and respect across the province. The imperial decree praised his "delightful handling of affairs and exemplary service."

The Yue family packed once more and moved—not just to any town, but to the provincial capital.

Yue Ning looked out from the cart as familiar hills and markets disappeared behind them. She did not feel sadness. Only excitement. The stage for her family's future was expanding, and she had already planned her next steps.

Shortly after arriving in the provincial capital, Yue Ning opened a branch of the Jade Lotus Inn, maintaining the same flawless standards as her first location.

But she did not stop there.

She began small ventures across the city:

A bakery specializing in rare pastries

A small tea shop with secret recipes

A supplier network for merchants who visited her restaurants

All businesses were registered under pseudonyms, carefully hidden from her family to avoid drawing attention. Yet, within months, the capital whispered of the young "mysterious entrepreneur" whose establishments were profitable, popular, and impeccably managed.

Even at eight years old, Yue Ning's fingers were already weaving a network of commerce that mirrored her quiet control over destiny.

At night, she would sit in her new courtyard, overlooking the provincial streets. Her hands rested lightly over the ledgers of her businesses, while the family laughter and chatter carried from the main hall.

I am eight now, she thought, calm and composed.

The family is secure. My foundations are solid. The world is opening before me.

Her lips curved in a faint smile.

When it is time… we will meet again, Tian Xuán

Above her, the heavens were still unaware of the child who quietly controlled empires, ensured her family's prosperity, and walked a path that even the gods would one day tremble before.

Beneath mortal eyes, she was only a clever, laughing girl surrounded by her family.

But the Supreme Heavenly Empress was already writing the rules of her future.
